Now Happy w/Northeast Numismatics

I thought I bought the 1999-W $10 Mint Eagle Gold Eagle from Northeast Numismatics via Collectors Corner early yesterday afternoon...and got a confirmation. And now I get an e-mail from them saying sorry...it was previously sold.
Not at all pleased with this.

<< <i>That's unfortunate, but not terribly surprising. I see lots of things on Collector's Corner that I know are no longer available on the dealer's site. I guess it's obvious now: but always buy from the dealer, not through Collector's Corner. >>
Ditto...

When buying from them direct you get 2 separate emails.. The first one telling you not to send
payment until you receive a followup email confirming it's still in stock...
I might also add that they're own website also listed the item as in stock at the time (I just happened to check retroactively). In fact, the coin is STILL pictured on their site, but now with a sold flag.

I think the OP should be a bit more understanding. A negative post is really unwarranted.
Also, for bullion related items, the prices will change, so don't expect the prices and availability to remain the same when gold goes up.

<< <i>my MO is to speak to the dealer directly. I don't even have one of my assistants call. >>
They are probably giddy (if not frothy) when your name shows on the caller ID, knowing their month is made.

Their site isn't automated. If they're going through orders, they have to make the changes by hand, and it may well be that this piece was sold just prior to your placing an order, hence they hadn't had a chance to update it's status on the website.
I've had lots of good experiences with them... they're good guys over there.
As a matter of fact, I do...glad to see you care.

A few weeks ago close to midnight I bought this smokin AU58 WLH off another dealers website added to my cart, got an invoice, and mailed off a check in the morning. Only later that afternoon to get an email and phone call that it was out on approval. It's didn't come back as it was expected and my check was returned.
It's just part of dealing with buying off the internet as dealers work normal hours but their website is up 24/7/365.
I feel for you... but Tom and Chris are some of the best dealers in the business and what occurred was beyond there control.
Obviously, these things can and do happen.
Ready to move on to the next "must have" item!
<< <i>Ok...Ok...I've taken a few deep breaths now...and never having dealt with them previously, I just felt a little jilted from this situation.

Get ready to loose out on a whole lot more in your collecting days.
Instead of getting all bent out of shape like a serial killer who's victim got away.
Spin it into a non blood pressure raising way, as maybe there was a good reason you missed this one.
<<Instead of getting all bent out of shape like a serial killer who's victim got away.>>
Careful now...you're almost describing the compulsive tendencies of quite a few numismatists there!
Have you beaten your wife lately?

Yawn. Sticks and stones. I'm not the one making wife beating jokes. I guess that makes me a wuss.

Clearly you have no clue about that phrase as a classic rhetorical example of a question that can't be answered without admitting guilt. When you become more worldly THEN you can try to criticize me. I'm sure 90% of the readers here know exactly what that phrase illustrates.

Oh I get the supposed joke. It's just not very classy whether it's "classic" or not. Especially coming from someone who has a daughter, I'd expect you not to joke about women getting beat...but hey, to each his own I guess.

Doh, while you are correct, and I think most sane, mature, folks agree with you, you won't change his mind as he can never admit when he has screwed up again.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
Yeah...I'm wrong and you're both the real "Saints"

CC is pretty useless.....
She said that she hasn't had a good beating thrown into her in years...poor woman.
But putting aside saintguru's obvious shortcomings...and getting back to the real issue at hand...although I understand how these things can happen...I also think I do have a ligitimate reason not to be pleased.
And after reading hundreds of other posts regarding cancelled eBay auctions, disappointing third party grades, counterfeit coins, and a multitude of other sob stories...what I don't have a right to vent every once in a blue moon?
There...I've said it.

Go ahead and vent, just don't drag a very good and reputable company through the mud on a public forum because you missed a rip. As I see it, there are many, many examples of that coin around. Why not just buy it, or is it now too expensive because gold went up?
I didn't accuse them of anything illegal or unethical (like retroactively selling it for a higher price to another buyer)...just disappointed.
If this coin was on eBay...and you won the auction or did a Buy It Now...and it wasn't available....wouldn't you be disappointed?
In all fairness, I DID actually commit to buy something here that turned out not to actually be available.
Listen to what Rick is saying (or writing). NEN is a great company with quality people and the fact that you are disappointed, while understandable, does not really call for a public rebuke. A generic post about being cautious when ordering through a third-party ordering system, such as Collector's Corner, would serve your audience better.

I worked with them for many years when I lived and dealt coins in New England. They are a first class coin dealer.
