Diverse members?
I was raised that a person's outward appearance, heritage, or religious denomination was never an indicator that they were a good or bad person.
True diversity lies in each individual's thoughts and beliefs, not being classified as part of a group.
I find it somewhat sad and yet amusing how those that claim tolerance for diversity are often intolerant toward individuals that have views that are very diverse from their own.
I don't like it either, but there were worse alternatives, weren't there? Does having the Asian-American in the top spot indicate who controls most of our nation's debt?
"Men who had never shown any ability to make or increase fortunes for themselves abounded in brilliant plans for creating and increasing wealth for the country at large." Fiat Money Inflation in France, Andrew Dickson White (1912)
I wonder if the same half wit that chose the 2010 Lincoln reverse also chose this design. This is an insult to the artists who went through the trouble to submit beautiful designs.
Why have a white male? they are only the coin collectors who purchase nearly all these coins.....
That's the problem with decisions by committee.
This "perfect union" coin design is a race-based slap in the face to 95% of the folks who would buy this coin.
I find the generic, stereotyped features of the representative groups depicted equally offensive. Seriously, an Indian in braids with a feather in his hair?? I also don't understand why they apparently excluded hispanics from their "perfect union" melting pot. I guess they couldn't make room for a Mexican sombrero? What a terrible design.
Ugly & expensive coin .... based on Plat spot of $1,450+ .... it's gonna cost $1,792 per coin. (The coin is so artistic unacceptable, it has a chance of becoming the key coin in the Plat series.)
"Bongo drive 1984 Lincoln that looks like old coin dug from ground."
Even though many will not purchase this coin because of the poor design..... it will still sell enough that it will not be a lower mintage than the 2008 coins. The 2008 will remain on top.
The year 2008 was the perfect storm.... a one of a kind year for low mintage.
I just don't see much of a chance of a super low mintage on this. They have announced 8,000 max.... and if the past is any indication, will probably keep selling it at least for a year. The coins are probably all minted already. When we get closer to the end of the one year period, and mintages are still super low... there will be an increase in purchases with the hope it will be the next Jackie Robinson.... thus assuring it will not be the low mintage key.
The Jackie Robinson was a sleeper 'niche' coin. This PC plat is a 'generic' PC theme, just like the segregation silver dollar. Remember how everyone thought that would be a bust, and low mintage? Not by a long shot..... ......... course it was a lot cheaper than this plat will be.
Certainly... the plat bears keeping an eye on. But I just don't see much potential in it. Unless.... hmmm..... a first strike label perhaps?
I think that this design is a slap in the face to anyone who thinks that race and gender shouldn't matter. Liberals are the ones who should be most offended.

That would very much surprise me. Do you have a link or are you making this up? It was just released. --Jerry
go back about 100 pages in Eric's epic moderns post(somewhat of an exagerration-but the designs were revealed/discussed a long time ago and the current official choice is the same as rumored official choice then) neocoin -that's perfect!
Future American Eagle Platinum Proof coin reverses will feature the following themes:
2010 - To Establish Justice 2011 - To Insure Domestic Tranquility 2012 - To Provide for the Common Defense 2013 - To Promote General Welfare 2014 - To Secure the Blessings of Liberty to Ourselves and our Posterity
Can you imagine the future reverse designs of the final 5 Preamble principles???
My mind is racing!!!
I got one for 2010, to establish justice.....Dirty Harry wielding his 44 magnum!

Ah yes, the old PC diversity reverse!
Gotta love that Eagle Privy Mark!
In honor of the memory of Cpl. Michael E. Thompson
Orders will be limited to five units per household.
I am glad they are only making a 1 oz proof of this coin, so I don't have to waste money extending my 1/10 oz run....

Good...8,000 units that will be minted until sold out with numbers significantly higher than the key years; thus, no pressure to buy the design!

Not buying.

They missed one person in this more perfect union, where's the fat white coin collector?
It doesn't work IMHO.
I do like the flowing hair on the bottom half

My cash will be better spent elsewhere.

Let he who has ears, read deeper into this.

Even if by some "black swan" scenario this coin becomes the rarest plat known, I will rest easy I did not have ANY part of owning such a coin.
Keep it. What were those committee members thinking?????
Time for a new committee.

I can't stick my neck out on this new series. Too pricey.
If there were fractionals.....maybe(?)

So much change that I've given up on the "hope" part!

He could have stopped it!!!
Nobody even mentioned whats-his-name, or did I somehow miss it in all the excitement?
I knew it would happen.
Really? I wouldn't put it past him. I thought it was Moy, "the incompetant one" that stopped those programs.
I'm not sure how you decided to start calling some of the posters here neocons? Care to elaborate? Is that a derogatory term for you?
I knew it would happen.

Jerry, I find it curious that drfish can spot a neocon(s) on a coin forum.
What's a neocon anyway? Did he mean neocoin??
Am I the only one that actually kinda likes it?
Although I'd rather have a nice liberty/eagle design.
