80K in taxes for the whole year? Man, 80K barely makes my estimated quarterly. Of course, I do have affiliate programs in play with some major online poker rooms, so that probably explains why I'm so obscenely wealthy. Sometimes I wonder how many student loan checks have been flushed to Antigua or wherever just so I can keep a steady stream of Louis X1V and russian caviar running through my manor-- er, house.
Anyway, don't feel bad for me. I paid over 80K last year in personal taxes so I think I'm doing just fine. How are you doing?
makes me chuckle when somebody calls me an idiot and I wipe my ass with their paycheck.
Yes, these are statements characteristic of a well-grounded, intelligent individual.
Please don't confuse income with intelligence. I'm pretty sure I would crush debates against Paris Hilton, Keanu Reeves and Britney Spears. Also, no one's impressed if you do in fact make $250k a year. The fact that you think throwing "that kind of money" in somebody's face is warranted or necessary is not only hilarious, but it proves how little of a person you truly are.
1) It's not that much money in the grand scheme of things. 2) If Tom Brady walked up to you and said he would wipe his ass with your paycheck you'd think he's an ass. 3) If you don't see how sniping as a strategy will save you money long-term than you're not nearly as smart as you think you are.
finally got some scans.....and if you could avoid calling each other names and yapping about your bank accounts and spending habits, im sure folks would be a tad less douchey
I took $80K to the strip club tonight just to make it rain on them hoes. Good luck payin your taxes white boy, I pay straight cash hommie. Ya Boy, Pac Man Jones
mostly 10-99. If you really need to see it I'll try to put it in mspaint or something and block out my personal info.
For sure man. That would be great. Nobody believes you paid $80k in tax last year... or that you drive a Corvette. Why don't you post a picture of that too!?
It is if you like mostly 6's and 7's, with a few straggler 8s. I certainly am not hating on guys that like/collect mid to upper mid grade cards (because I do too) but make no mistake about them grading out much higher than that.

I never claimed to be rich LarryAllen, but I did make a little over 300K last year, which is better than most. And it's certainly better than most "idiots" I know. I have a degree and I work my ass off. I also never said I drive a corvette, but I have one, and have bought and sold several through my dealership. So here you go LarryAllen. Also, if you want the number to my dealership so you can call and verify that it's mine I'll give that to you too.
Here is a picture of the vette and a picture of my every day driver.

fair enough, we'll agree to disagree on this one. No hard feelings on my part. Now back to this '61 set, the seller requested my ebay contact information for some reason. I see that he is located in Suwanee, GA which is about 45 minutes from me. Does anyone know why he would do this? I'm assuming he might try to sell to me outright?
I tried getting into the 61 Set, I just can't. Have most of the low numbers and about 15 hi's. I do like Rajah's dreamy green eyes. (sigh) I prefer the colors of the 60 and 63 sets over the bland 61's and 62's.
I will tell you, I like the concept of SP's in non-high series, so I have taken a shine to the 61 Maz and Skowron's.
Kiss me once, shame on you. Kiss me twice.....let's party.
Same crap just a different thread. People argue just about anything here . Its funny how Taco Johnny shows up and another thread goes haywire. I still have not seen a useful post from him. Maybe the next time i make a big purchase or try to make a big purchase i will come here and show off just to see what comments people have . Corvette , good luck trying to get that set , or whatever other set you try to get.
And just for the record , I have never used a snipe service either and i have won plenty to cards.

Willi, I'm out on that set. I thought $3500 would leave some room for profit but its already above that. As for Taco clown, you are right, not one useful post. I know that I can sometimes take things a bit far in reacting to other posts when I should just turn the other cheek, but I will also readily admit that I'm in the wrong and won't hold a grudge against people I might have disagreements with.
just for the record, the entire reason I never used a sniping service was really because I didn't buy enough stuff to take the time to subscribe to one. For the last week I have been using esnipe to win auctions for my '69 set and am pretty please.
Thanks to Nam and Steve for showing me the err in my thought process regarding these. I don't mind admitting when I'm wrong about something. It really doesn't matter if you buy 2 items a week or 2000. When it comes to collectibles like cards I realize that sniping is the smart move.
I too may have just been a little irritated when i wrote the post . I apologize . I sincerely enjoy this forum but sometimes the bickering becomes too much . We all have different budgets and we all collect different sets cards . We should just enjoy this hobby together and remember that not everyone is going to have the same point of view as others but we all have the same goalsand thats to have the cards that make us happy
Good Day

I thought there was room for profit at $3500. That would allow for $500-$600 in grading fees and assuming all of the cards were in the same condition then you could have 75-100 graded stars, high numbers, etc.. and have a nice NM set. I put $3100 into the '61 set I built, but that was the first set I tried and I cost myself money by keeping the NM-MT and Mint off center qualifier cards. I sold it for $4000 but I think if I would have upgraded just a little I could have gotten $5000 at least, but I learned a little.
I recently finished 2 '64 sets. I put around $3000 into the set to keep. It is NM+ and has all the stars graded 7-8. The one I put together to sell, I put a little over $1800 in and got $3500 for it. I now have a process that really worked well on the '64 set. Of course a lot of it is based on speculation and getting lucky on condition of the numerous big lots that I buy. I then take the doubles and package them up for resale of course. I had around 100 graded cards and most of the stars were 7 including the Mantle.
It isn't really the monitary gains that gives me satisfaction doing this. I can sit at work and go over the VCP's and watch auctions when its slow at work and it's the challenge and fun of building the set and then selling it. It's amazing how much fun a 34 year old can have buying, selling, and collecting pieces of cardboard.

Hey corvette, lets here you say "life is like a box of chocolates."
Does this mean you are going to commit tax fraud which could be a crime? Just checking what you meant.
was only directed at the person that called me an idiot
If that was directed at me I only mentioned that people that don't snipe are idiots, not you specifically.
You know like you did to Brian yesterday when he mentioned he paid 4.00 in postage.
You went on and on how anyone was an idiot that complained about shipping if they knew in advance.
When called on it you back pedaled and said you meant no one in particular.
Well either did I.

The point was a person could overpay if they bid an over market max early.
I have won cards 50% below market without sniping too.
I have also won cards with a snipe that fell well below my max.
Had I entered that max early someone could have ran me up.
By entering and submitting that max as a snipe no one could run me up.
They could though make me pay my max if they too sniped and their bid was 1 increment
under my snipe.
In this case the 61 set could still be under Tommy's max had he not yet submitted it.
It is very possible someone kept bidding until they overcame his max bid.
Of course it is also possible that the bid we see now is the amount it would be at regardless
if Tommy bid or not.
I think what nam was trying to say was that it is best not to show your cards early.
Place a holding bid and wait until the end, especially an auction that had 10 days to run.
Steve

Sniping has its drawbacks too.
say you really want an item and set your snipe.
16 other people have the same idea and no one bids and the seller see's his 2000.00 set languishing
at his 9.99 opening bid. He gets cold feet and ends the auction early. Heck he may even sell it off ebay to some clown
for 1200.00 (the amount you would have bid early).
Sniping s just one of many bidding strategies.
lets say this 61 set had an opening bid of 1000.00 and I felt I would bid 3000.00
I may bid 1050.00 early just to let the seller know I have interest in it.
If the opening bid was .99 I might open my bidding with 500.00 (knowing full well that it should sell for 3k)
Take each auction for what it is and bid to your advantage.

lol, yeah. What do you think the set is worth? Or better, what would you be willing to pay for it?
I would have paid no more then 2500.00 for it.
I based that on the seller claiming it was worth 10K +
At my price point I'm in for around 4.00 per card.
