1961 topps set for sale on ebay, thoughts on where it might close? **Seller finally emailed me some

scans are on the last page....
With the sour economy there have been less and less complete 61' sets on Ebay in recent months. The last 2 i tracked sold for $2500 range, but the quality of the cards was weak.
This set boasts some graded key cards, but the small scans are horrible. I have inquired about some bigger photos of the raw cards (many appear off center) mostly out of curiousity sake. I have been very tempted to list my set (mid range grades with about 40 graded stars, commons and high numbers)

My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

I'd guess 5-6k

<< <i>Corvette, of course ya do. Even if u didn't U would claim u did so u could come on here and pop off about it >>
lol, just because you don't have $4000 you don't have to be a d*ck about everything.
<< <i>I'll never understand why anyone ever bids before the last 5 seconds of an auction. >>
they should just make all of the auctions 5 minutes long right?
Now as for a max bid over market, that is another story.
Steve
<< <i>they should just make all of the auctions 5 minutes long right? >>
Edited to say: Nevermind. Good luck on your high bid with only 8 1/2 days left to go in the auction.

lol, I don't think I'll get it, nor am I anticipating getting it. If I did happen to get it though it would be a good buy. You see, If I'm home then I might watch an auction or two end and place a bid with a few seconds left, but since it doesn't really matter to me one way or the other, I could care less if I win them or lose them. I just put in the maximum I'm willing to pay and then pay the day after the auction if I win.

edited to say that I do, however, like to watch my auctions end because most of the diehard ebayers share the same opinion as you and it is fun to see an item I'm selling jump from $800 to $1500 in the last few seconds. I have a '65 Ford Galaxie on there right now and it is at $3500 with 7+ hours left. There are 61 people watching. I only have $1300 in it and expect it to rise a little in the last few hours due to the great response.
<< <i>lol, I don't think I'll get it, nor am I anticipating getting it............ >>
If you continue to place max bids on auctions earlier than the last 5 seconds, then I agree that "you do not get it" (not talking about the auction).

The items that I win on ebay to try and make a profit have all turned out really, really well. I don't make my living on ebay and the items I win go for well below market value. Like I say, I don't sit at home watching all of the auctions and sitting by my computer. I have better things to do with my time, like going to the golf course, which I'm gonna do right now. I don't even have to drive, as I live on the 2nd hole.

Like those trimmed 1965s that a board member had to tell you were trimmed (and trimmed pretty badly)?

Me either, and it looks like you'll never get it (once again, not the auction).
Do you really think the people that set bids at the last second are sitting in front of their computer when their bids go in?
still waiting for scans by the way.

Nobody tell him about using a FREE snipe serve. Shhhhh... it will be our little secret.
Buying Vintage, all sports.
Buying Woody Hayes, Les Horvath, Vic Janowicz, and Jesse Owens autographed items

lol, no, I know all about the snipe services, but what do they help if you pay more than market value for something? The old car I had listed went from $3600 to $4406 in the last minute and it was fun to watch. Yeah, the guy won it in the last few seconds but he overpaid by a couple of thousand.
Don Spence wins a lot of cards but how much does he overpay for them? If I bought a ton of stuff off of ebay then I'm sure I'd subscribe to one of the services but I only buy the stuff that looks like surefire deals or something that I need outside of baseball cards (tires, cars, etc...). And to the guy that was talking about the '65 set I bought, it had a return policy so I took a shot at it. Some people said the cards might have been trimmed so I returned it and got my money back. The guy relisted it and got $600 more for it than I paid.

thanks.
Just those in general.

So, if I am reading that correctly, you feel that there is a chance you may overspend by using a sniping service? Now I just flat out feel bad for you.
How can you pay more than market value for something by sniping if you are the one who sets the snipe amount? Do you think that a sniping service is just a website with a button that says "win me that auction at any price?" When using a sniping service you set the maximum you are willing to spend (just like you did with 9 days left in the auction), but your maximum bid is not placed until 5 seconds left (or whatever you set it to go off at) this way no one spends 9 days driving your bid up to its ceiling. You're welcome.

I thought it was Taco Johnny.

No. He said, "lol, no, I know all about the snipe services...." He obviously understands them because he said he knows "all" about them. We clearly are the clueless ones and not him!

lol, I know how a sniping service works. Anyway, don't feel bad for me. I paid over 80K last year in personal taxes so I think I'm doing just fine. How are you doing?
I love it when guys go "1040" on here. Always makes me chuckle.

makes me chuckle when somebody calls me an idiot and I wipe my ass with their paycheck.
Please keep up the quotes. They are great! Even if I was trying to make fun of you I could not do better than you are doing yourself. I suggest you put down the bottle of booze and back away from the keyboard.

lol, someone named Larry Allen telling me to put down the bottle of booze, nice irony.
I guess I am not as smart as I think... I don't get it?
Steve

lol, no.
I'm done arguing over sh*t in this thread. I didn't mean to step on anyone's toes by originally stating that I had the high bid. Then everyone took that and ran with it. Anyway, everyone have a good night.

Agreed!
It so reminds me of that tale of a geeky kid who has a smokin hot girlfriend who puts out- nobody has ever seen nor heard of her because she happens to live a thousand miles away
<< <i>Really not my business but, WOW, if you paid 80,000 in taxes that means with the Obama tax plan you must have made almost 100 grand. >>
lol, yeah, under the Obama plan I'm gonna probably pay double that if I make as much as last year (likely won't happen with the way the economy is, but we'll see). I'm gonna do some more creative tax write offs, that's for sure.

was only directed at the person that called me an idiot who pokes his 2 cents in every single thread. Reminds me of grumpy old man on Saturday night Live. I've tried like hell to be nice to that person too, but he continually follows me from thread to thread. I'll also go ahead and direct it at captain kirk who said I was stupid.
