What are your numismatic / coin related pet peeves?

Someone posted that they hated when dealers advertise "halfs" rather than "halves". I consider this to be his pet peeve. My pet peeve is I hate when coin collectors (who should know better) refer to cents as pennies. They are not pennies---they are cents!!!!!!!! Penny is a slang term used by the uneducated masses and coin collectors should know better than to call them pennies. O.K. What are your coin related pet peeves? Don't hold back---I know you have some.

........so what you're saying is, the party or parties responsible for this box label is a BLASPHEMER??
I don't consider myself a coin collector much less a numismatist (such an ostentatious word) so it's probably alright that I call cents pennies
so I hope I get a pass....

Pretty hard for me hold this against collectors when the manafactuer (The US Mint) refers to the cent as a penny mulitple times on their website.

second pet peeve - people who don't understand the meaning of rare vs scarce etc.. as well as those who take advantage of those who don't know.
<< <i>When I walk into a coin store and the workers purposely ask the older people if they need help before me even though I was first. I may young but I am actually trying to buy from their store and they are more worried about the people selling their dad's collection, assorted spare gold bullion, or helping some old lady find the perfect ASE for her grandchild's birthday. >>
........maybe they're taking care of the 'older' people before you is because they KNOW the elderly have less time to live than you!

Well put but I'm pretty sure I've had to wait long enough to watch her ASE tone.
Maybe that's more of a personal financial crisis than a pet peeve, but it still peeves me

Oh, also a local B&M guy. He had a raw Early dollar that looked around VG10. It was in some presentaion case "America's Fist Dollar". I asked him the price of it and he said "Oh, you'll never afford that." I let that slide. It was a comment few weeks later when I decided to never go back there. I was looking around and asked about a 1909-s VDB cent. He looked at me and said "like you've really got the money for that?" and then he and a customer/buddy of his busted out laughing. I didn't go back until last year which was 7-8 years later. I walked into the store had cash in hand and told him I was there to make a slabbed Saint purchase and you would have thought that I was his best friend.

<< <i>"Penny" is not slang, it comes from Great Briton. >>
It's slang when it's used to describe an American cent. Calling a "dollar" a "buck" doesn't bother me though.

The dealers who do that oftentimes do not own (or even have possession of) the coins.
When you ask for a photo (if you were the first one to do so) they have to go to the real owner to ask them to scan their coin. Then the CU dealer will forward it on to you.

I think the color "purple" probably is an indicator that the coin has seen some type of solution which isn't "natural", but I do not know for sure. The pet peeve is with myself, honestly.
This is a close up of the reverse of the coin , with a flash. I should have looked closer before submitting. Still, with a mintage of 416,000 , it is safe where it sits...
the #92 in the slab is a code for cleaning.

Next pet peeve overgrading a coin and expecting to get a high price for raw coins.
Never finding the coin you want and then when you do you don't have the money with you and it's sold by the time you get back.

Would be easy posting a pic the first time around, build a web site,
seems like too many steps and time just to get a picture,
there is one CC dealer that has a lot of inventory would
love viewing on line without having to go through so
many e-mails just to see some of the coins...look at the
Collectors Corner under Franklin halves..."Andrew"
ton of coins but a real pain trying to see most of them...
their e-mail response has gotten much better but the
advantage of on line shopping is looking at easy to see pics,
then ask questions...no pics have to ask too many questions
just to see some coins...then wait days for a response...
Even if they dont own the coin an on hand pic makes all the
difference in the world...

Top ten dealer pet peeves:
10. People who think that all dealers are inherently shady, and no matter what they quote, it's too high, no matter what they offer, it's not enough.
9. People who think that buying two of something is a wholesale purchase deserving of a steep discount.
8. People who think that carrying around a photocopy of someone else's month old Greysheet makes them a dealer too.
7. Buyers who think that having a wad of cash in their pocket is supposed to turn a seller into a drooling retard who will sell everything at stupidly low prices.
6. People who think that a $100 item is worth $250 just because they've owned it for XX years.
5. People who think that everything in a slab is carved in stone, and never wrong (unless they want to buy it, natch)
4. People who tell stories about how they had "time to kill" so they went to the local coin shop and spent 2 hours asking questions and picking through junk boxes, 90% silver, and stock trying to catch the seller sleeping on varieties or underpriced items, but they couldn't find any... and left without buying anything. And they can't figure out why the dealer's miffed.
3. The same person in the example #4 above who comes in the next Monday wanting the dealer to tell him if he got a good deal on all the coins he bought at the coin show that weekend.
2. The same person in the example #4 above who complains that his local dealer went out of business, and can't figure out why.
1. People who can't grasp the concept that dealers are human beings whose business, overhead, investment, and time all have value.
