Wow, thanks for reminding me. I knew they had come down since I paid just over $200 for a PCGS 68 reverse proof a while back.

I definitely need to upgrade and get all three coins in 69!!

Glad I left my set in the nice mint display box they sent them in image

I bet that makes the people that paid $10,000+ for an unopened box of 10 feel like complete idiots.

Raw opened sets are still fetching between $250 - $300 on eBay. Graded 69 sets .. NGC or PCGS sets are selling in a similar price range $250 - $290. Don't forget, the original Mint issue price was $100 in 2006.

If PCGS discovers milk spots on these unopened coins, will they grade them with the spots???

I know I have 10 graded sets in my SDB and at least 2 or 3 have developed milk spots.

Are spots more apt to occur in the slabs, as opposed to leaving them in their Mint capsules??

I am happy that I sold when I did. But they still are more than double the issue price, so not bad.

How's the gold set holding up?

I have an unslabbed Rev Prf that developed a milk spot. It was in the mint capsule which was placed inside an Intercept Shield slab holder which are then stored in an Intercept Shield slab box. The slab box was in a tin box with dessicant gel and a corrosion inhibitor. Obviously, these don't inhibit the formation of milk spots.

I've even had some others stored in this way that have started to tone on the rim. Not a real good testimonial for IS products.

IMHO the set is still a nice one - no matter what the price.

However, I feel sorry for the Moe Rons who are paying large premiums for 2009 Lincoln Cents. As far as I'm concerned these are not collectible and are worth 50 cents per roll.

    Interesting point. Thanks for sharing.
I read a lot about IS products on here and people swearing by them.
I have not tried them yet.

As for the milk spots, I know many people on here swear that it's the rinse from the Mint
that causes them. The only other variable in your situation is that you left them in the Mint
capsules. I've had coins in Gov't packaging for years and some are pristine, some are not.

I wouldn't put it past them though to use CHEAP CHEAP plastic in those things!

If the issues are caused by something already on the surface of the coin, I don't think you can blame IS for that.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

Anyone know how the raw gold sets are doing? Are these listed on the greysheets?
