Personally, I think the fascist police state robs me enough already. They'll have to pass a law to make me buy that cr@p.

No one is forcing you to buy "old and worn out junk" that you are obviously collecting.

DHeath..I will disagree with part of your statement.Although it might be true for some collectors to submit the classic coins again for a bean sticker they indeed do not submit the Modern mint products that are certified already for beanies.Not as of yet mind you .Most of the stuff that comes out of the mint is graded high anyway such as 69 0r 70.
Circulated classic coins will always be scrutinized and be the subject for a grade change.

Don, I do not believe the original post was about moderns per se, but about the new mint issues, ie:Bullion, NCLT. What you do with moderns makes you a true numismatist. Making coins from mint sets, proof sets, and bank rolls can only be done by those who really get it, like you. On the other hand, what goes on with new mint issues is nearly laughable. Look at this whole first strike thing where you can't even look at the coins before they are submitted. Just playing the lottery is all it is.
I have a complete set of ASE proofs, complete sets of proof and unc silver modern commems mostly bought directly from the mint. Sure I like them, but they are not what gives me a woody. I'll take the hunt for original gold and commems any day over the scheduled delivery of new mint issues from the US mint.
