  OK I found the link that indicates they are limited but it doesn't say how many. "American Eagle Gold, Silver, and Platinum Proof Coins have a limited mintage"

  2008 is turning out to be a VERY interesting year!

  Seriously, I do remember that there was always a minting limit but it was never reached in the past if my memory serves me correctly.

  Unfortunately the most current year is 2005 and the limit is N/A. In 2004 they sold 801,602 out of a possible 850,000. Silver's pretty hot this year so maybe they've sold 850,000, assuming the 2008 limit is the same as 2004.

  Though it states not available, it is not in the not available section of the mint's web site. So it leads me to believe they might come back. But 700k have been minted so far. no longer available section

  They suspended production due to a planchet shortage. This was discussed on here a few weeks
  ago. They did this a few months ago as well. The mint said they are working on securing more suppliers.
