OK I found the link that indicates they are limited but it doesn't say how many. "American Eagle Gold, Silver, and Platinum Proof Coins have a limited mintage"

Seriously, I do remember that there was always a minting limit but it was never reached in the past if my memory serves me correctly.
Unfortunately the most current year is 2005 and the limit is N/A. In 2004 they sold 801,602 out of a possible 850,000. Silver's pretty hot this year so maybe they've sold 850,000, assuming the 2008 limit is the same as 2004.
