So today is my birthday, and in honor of this great event, Mrs. Longacre decided to celebrate. Now Mrs. L. would not know the oven if it bit her on the a$$, but for some reason, she decided to make me a cake, rather than just having our pastry chef make it. The result is below, and it is an excessively rare Peace dollar. I think the date is unique for the series. My pictures do not do the cake justice, because Mrs. L. went above and beyond and sprinkled this silvery stuff on the obverse. My camera could not capture the booming luster, unfortunately. I am thinking of sending it to mgoodm3 for photographing, though.

I grade this Peace dollar a solid AU58, due to a little rub in the fields. Although I really liked the cake, I do not think it will qualify for a sticker. image

[Edit-- I removed the picture due to its size, but someone below was kind enough to post a smaller version below.]

Wow. I didn't realize it was so big. I will try to figure out how to cut it down.

That has to be an XF40. Definitely AT. Food coloring , ya know ?
It may not qualify for a sticker but you can always have a bake sale and give it a label. image

    image.........good one.

Nice cake, I think it's the underbite variety.....just guessing. What a great effort she went to......and I sure hope she doesn't read your little outburst about her and the oven.....image.....or you just may eat that cake all month!

    Happy birthday, Longy!

While it is a nice gesture, I am shocked that you are not offended by the Peace dollar. She really should have made a 1796 No Stars quarter eagle or a Stella, something more fitting to your stature as a collector. To return the favor, might I suggest a jewelry gift from Target for her next birthday? image

My question is, “Where did Ms. Longacre find the top secret design for the new $5 coin? This was known only to a select few. The Secretary of the Treasury will be most upset.”

    Or maybe Baskin-Robbins.

It is the thought that counts and that was a very nice gesture on her part.

Happy Birthday, Longacre! Great cake, too. Mrs. Longacre has outdone herself. There was a dollar coin made with the 1970 date - - the Eisenhower prototype, but it was never released.

By the way, this is Longacre's first OP that doesn't include a question! imageimage

Are you sure that's a peace dollar, though? It looks like she might have used the Shriver commem as a model. Either way, that must have been a really nice surprise - Mrs. L is a cool lady!

What gives it away as a fake? I thought frosted devices and fields were an indication of a genuine cake.
