Are PCGS EBAY sellers going to Boycott EBAY -

I am curious - I am leaning toward solidarity and joining it.
The Boycott is supposed to be February 19-25 - One week of No Purchases No Buying No selling No Nothing
in the coins sections.,
I would think that would be a tremendous statement to EBAY that they messed up.
hmm One week in lack of revenue for coin sales has to be a hit for them ...
Its almost like Unionizing " The Coin Sellers of Amercia" - yeah the CSA

BTW it isn't just CU members, I'm reading national news stories about eBay protests. It really could make a difference.
Edited to add, but they don't mention the boycott in that one...
Check out my current listings: https://ebay.com/sch/khunt/m.html?_ipg=200&_sop=12&_rdc=1
I mean, wouldn't it be great if we could rise up against this giant and simply bring it to its knees begging for mercy?
Unfortunately, this just isn't going to happen. These folks are a multi-billion dollar entity and the role that coins plays in that bottom line is very small.
I applaud the effort but I personally think it will be a waste.
Once these new policies begin to be used and enforced, I truely believe that EBay will suffer from them. It won't happen very quickly but it will happen. There are way more small sellers that do not qualify nor will they ever qualify for the 15% FVF discount than there are big Power Sellers and these folks are going to realize how expensive it is to sell on EBay and will simply stop selling.
Revenues may or may not go down and there will be a ton of happy buyers and a maybe more disgruntled sellers and hopefully EBay, in 6 months or so, will look at the bottom line and realize what a "mis-guided" step this may have been!
I certainly can;t predict the future as there is so much that I just don;t know. But, one thing I do know, as a small time seller its a lot of work to list stuff on EBay. Its even more work closing auctions out and attending to shipping responsibilites and when the time arrives where it's more hassle than its worth, I will be seeking other venue's to sell.

As am I
If they do, eBay might see that as an acceptable condition for getting acceptance for their new policies.

Not letting a seller rate a buyer is the dumbest idea Ebay has come up with in a long time.
My wife and I run a trophy shop in a small town and if you think we don't contact the other shops around about a jerk customer then you would be sadly mistaken. Ebay should wise up.
I will sell here on the BST forum.
<< <i>It would cost to much to take down my store listings then put them back up, so no, no boycott, the only one that loses here is the seller. You have to realize that Ebay took all of this reaction into account before they announced the new policy. >>
Exactly, boycott or no boycott, you still have to pay your store fee's!
Again, I just don't understand why EBay is trying to promote buyers on EBay and screwing the sellers since the sellers are EBay's true "customers". Sellers pay EBay, not Buyers. Granted, if there were no buyers then there wouldn't be any sellers but it also works the other way and its just going to be an expensive proposition for small time EBay sellers.

Sounds like the boycott people were doing last year with not buying gas on certain days. Gas prices just kept going up and people kept on buying gas.

This boycott has legs. It's much more widespread than a few coin hustlers.
I'm a collector, not in this for business, but I think this is a fair way of expressing dissatisfaction.

Dogs and Cats sold on ebay as food Boycott?
Another way is to sell eBay's stock, which is trading now for less than half it's peak.
eBay's new policies aren't apt to stem its down trend. My bet is that the company achieves a new low in the latter part of '08 or early '09.
<< <i>Expect feebay to run a listing sale during that week. >>
I rarely take advantage of their 20 cent listing days as they always seem to be on a Thursday which has never been a good day to end auctions for me. I end up giving stuff away.

Very few Powersellers are going to get the 15% discount, either. Of the top 100 volume sellers on eBay, there is a grand total of one who will.

Also, no competition when bidding on coins that week.

Why not buy 2009 eBay puts? Or are you not willing to place any money on this bet?
IMO, eBay proved itself time and time again, that they know how to run their business. They may not be nice to the buyers, but I guess they figure that money can be made regardless.

During the week of the boycott we can do these again and see if it is working.

I'd guess many of them are DQd only by shipping charges. It seems clear that ebay wants to get their FVF on shipping so they are pushing us toward free shipping. --jerry

99.9% of the bidders on eBay have no idea there's any kind of boycott going on. Very few ever visit the eBay forums, where this originated.

There are some things eBay can do to make it less problematic for the good sellers. One is that the buyer's ability to neg the seller should be eliminated the moment an unpaid item dispute is filed, whether they respond or not. Only when the buyer has paid through PayPal would this ability be restored. As it stands now, deadbeats can neg away just by responding even though they have no intention of paying.
eBay can also add the ability of the seller to block zero feedback bidders who registered within <pick a period of time> of the auction close and/or have placed a high volume of bids above a specified threshold.

But neither of those address feedback extortion by bad sellers. --Jerry

Jerry, having free shipping has little to do with the Shipping DSR. There are many sellers that offer nothing but free shipping and they still get bad ratings from buyers.
And for nurmaler:
<< <i>IMO, eBay proved itself time and time again, that they know how to run their business. They may not be nice to the buyers, but I guess they figure that money can be made regardless. >>
Don't cha mean "may not be nice to sellers? The buyers are totally unaffected by the new policies other than protection from NOT receiving a negative from a seller which pretty much gives them extortion authority. Granted not all buyer's are buttheads but they are out there and it doesn;t matter how much you try to please them, they do have hidden agenda's with which seller's are powerless against. (Ref) I don't know that the new policies will increase this activity but it definitely opens the doors.

That's already addressed by the upcoming policy change removing the ability of sellers to leave negatives.

I guess we could go back to the stone ages and us collectors could bend over and take the prices dealers were willing to pay, granted that they even felt like buying our coins at their whim and fancy.
Sorry man - I love Ebay and would never boycott it. Being in charge of my coins is more empowering than some puny Ebay fee increases.
I'm gonna list a BOYCOTT EBAY coin with a billion dollar starting bid, GRADED MS-69 by WTF-GC, and no pictures of the slab... the first day of the Boycott.....lol
Why have it ??
J/k I won't be selling anyway.....so it doesn't matter to me
