    Due to other collecting priorities I don't buy the AGE/APE, but I like the Bald Eagle designs so will get a set. The question for me is Unc or Proof?

    The 2001 Buffalo commemorative had a 500,000 mintage yet even raw sells for more than $200.

    I like the design for a change.

    Still, unless you're sure of getting a 70, I'd stay away from the premium on proofs.

    The Mint has churned out so much new stuff that without that coveted 70, it's only going to be worth it's bullion value.

    Of all the proofs I have in modern bullion, I've never paid more than I would have for MS mintage.

    Spot plus a buck or two, depending on your dealer's stock on hand.

    Sad but true. Modern proofs are sure pretty, actually a work of art, but they are rarely worth the extra $$.

    The designs have a lot of potential. I will probably be a buyer of the silvers, the eagles on the gold are fantastic but that reverse reminds me too much of the Kennedy Half Dollar.

    A couple of people have pointed out what must be a typo, but who knows. The modern dollars are smaller than the Kennedy half dollar. Is the Mint going to make a small commemerative dollar??? Look at the weight and diameter listed below (taken directly from the US Mint website). The Dollar is the same size and weight as the $5 gold coin and the Half Dollar is larger and heavier......Probably a typo!!.......but could be interesting.

    The Mint site Product Schedule indicates Jan 15th for the Bald Eagle commemorative program. Yet, I've searched all over the site and can't find the set. I saw their artist drawings in NN, but that's the extent of it.

    I'll probably buy a set.

    I had a Bald Eagle fly over me today. My favorite bird, there are hundreds of them around in the spring.
    I like the look of the dollar issue, the other two seem dull.

    DRG, you listed the Gold coin size in your dollar listing (or the web site was wrong when you were there). It is listed as 1.5 inches in diameter.
