Complete US-PHIL Coins for Sale, Circulation Strikes 1903-1945
<< <i>Let's put it this way. Your best hope is something got missed.
True. I have completed almost an entire collection of wheats... the bigger the lot... usually the better my chances of finding an upgrade, or one I dont have... because they get overlooked.
These are in the original paper rolls and I have not searched them. Neither did the person who sold them to me. UNSEARCHED and UNOPENED.
If they're "unsearched and unopened", how does the seller know they're Mercury dimes?
When we get $1000 bags of dimes at the store, we have one of the kids separate the mercs from the roosys, then we separate the mercs into 4 piles, 1942's (we look for 42/1's), AU's, and1920's and earlier.
Sounds like some work, but in the last 3 years we have found two 1921's, one 1916 D, and three 42/41's. And a whole bunch of AU's.
Plus it keeps the kids busy....

<< <i>When they get here, I will post the results. I was sure they were searched but why someone would lie beats me.. It is not like he got any extra $$ for them, as searched rolls go for the same price. >>
What makes you think he's lying? He might, in fact, know the collection it came from. The collector could be gone and his
kids/spouse, etc could be selling them. From the rolls it appears that they were rolled in the 60's. The dealer may not
have looked and the kids sure would not have looked but the dealer knows the source and knows in fact they have been
searched by the collector. Ok, so it's a fine line. Not lying but maybe knowing the source and knowing that there is NO
chance that this collector missed anything. Hmmm, but then again it's probably a lie. I, myself, could not resist a peek!
Just to make sure they are all mercs of course! I'd never look through them for a key date.

I could not resist a peek especially knowing that they were not going to bring any more $$ "unsearched"
The buyers are buying from the liars

60 years into this hobby and I'm still working on my Lincoln set!
it remains a very clever marketing ploy.
My Dad bought me an unsearched bag of 5000 wheat pennies when I was 10 years old. I did not find one rarer date. It defies the odds.
"La Vostra Nonna Ha Faccia Del Fungo"
"La Vostra Nonna Ha Faccia Del Fungo"
that doesn't account for the other 45 owners of that same roll who have owned the roll over the past 45 years.
I knew it would happen.
Everyone that looked at the auction saw that the dimes were at least in a very old paper roll
Well they came in today in a very MODERN plastic roll. If he changed the packageing and already admitted searching the rest of the rolls you know he thumbed through these. Of course there is nothing even decent, very wron 19040's merc dimes.
i would not send them back since silver will be going up.
or i will offer you .90 cents each :-)
<< <i>I'd send it back. He lied when he said they were in original rolls.... >>
Glad you pointed that out.. I sent him an email asking him "what gives" ?
Not going to send em back because I got a good deal on them just as bullion, but not what I was expecting. Was waiting all week to "search" them, soon as I opended the package and saw the clear tube I knew I was screwed.
Edited to add: I wanna read about "What Gives" since he clearly stated "These are in the original paper rolls"!
The name is LEE!
On second look, he has alot of negative and neutrals 12 months ago. Still 99.1% cause he sells so much. If you want to laugh read his feedback left for others. He berates a guy for not reading a description. In my case his description is a blatant lie.
(Priest) BLASPHEMY he said it again, did you hear him?
<< <i>I'm holding out hope that he send the wrong tube, and will make an effort to make it right. He has outstanding feedback and tons of it, he is a link 2003hawk62 Profile link

Just remember something. Feedback means nothing if it doesn't work for you. The only feedback that counts is for your transaction. I usually have a good feeling of when I will get suckered by someone with good feedback, and I'm usually right.
I bought a few cheap (less than $30.00) third-tier slabbed coins on eBay from people with lots of positive feedback. They had great feedback, coins were "as described", but to the collector with at least some decent knowledge, they had major problems.
Reminds me of an old Amos & Andy TV show, where one guy bit the quarters he received at the parking lot to satisfy himself that they were really made of silver.

"Sou Mangueira......."
Those were the dimes. unsearched. the paper rolls i shipped to start this off all fell apart. they were very fragile so i didnt mess with them. i just transferred them. if you are unhappy with them and want to return them i will refund shipping and your costs. fair enough?
john
What you guys think? IMO he still deserves a ding. If I sold something new in the box, and changed it to another container for shipping my customers would come unglued. Pure BS IMO

Damn, he offered you your money back AND the shipping and you still want revenge? Get over it.

That is more than most seller would do and it tells me he wasn't trying to scam you....he is trying to make things right and at a loss to his own pocket book so keep the silver and skip the feedback all together

If the paper rolls did fall apart when he was packing them (I've had them do that to me when I was selling rolls of wheat cents), he had to put them in *something*, after all.

These weren't "new in a box" and paper wrappers, particularly old ones, can fall apart. It's a good reason. Whether or not it is true isn't something I, you, or others can accurately assess since we weren't there.
At the point that you can be 100% made whole (he is offering that for the return), you either forget about it or live with it. It is either a positive or no response, imho. Anything else and you show that you are unreasonable, imho.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
<< <i>i collect baseball cards so I will draw another example. If I were to buy an unsearched pack of 86 fleer basketball ( MJ's rookie), and the packaging fell apart so he sent 10 fleer cards in a plastic case... Would you be cool with that? If the packing fell apart what would be the odds of him not thumbing through the 10 cards and making sure there was no MJ? >>
That doesn't really work, either. It's clear from the picture in the listing that even if he had sent the exact roll and wrapper as pictured, he could have still looked through them beforehand, and you'd have no way of knowing.
If you don't trust him, return the coins and get your money back.
<< <i>Neither did the person who sold them to me. UNSEARCHED and UNOPENED. >>
I think this statement of what the PREVIOUS person who owned them, did or did not do with them, the most outrageous!!

Least it would have been as advertised.
I guess no one agrees with me and that is cool. I'm not going to give him postive, either neutral or negative. If I'm a jerk for doing so, so be it.
All he can do is ding me back, which seems to be the popular thing to do. At least no one will ever buy another unsearched roll in the original packing from him , or at least they will have full knowledge of what he actually sends.

Devil's advocate time... if you believed they were previously searched:

why did you bid on them if you wanted unsearched coins?
edited to add...
I'm not trying to give you a hard time over this. I thought that you might have been looking for a possible explanation which could show that the seller wasn't trying to scam you and I was offering ideas in that direction. If that's not the case and you have already made up your mind on a course of action and were just looking to vent, I apologize.
You will certainly get one back also.
We each pick our fights. IMO you are being foolish to persue this any longer. You can't prove one way or another whether or not they were searched. You can't prove one way or another whether the roll did or did not fall apart. You still got an ok price just for silver. The guy offered you a refund PLUS your shipping.
Like I said.... we each pick our fights. But...... !!!!!!!!!
Good luck if you persue the negative route.....
