<< <i>The OP got himself a slot on my blocked list. >>
Thank you, I don't need to buy anymore junk that is not shipped as described.
FYI I'm going to send the roll back on pure principal. Sorry I decided to share my break with you guys. I won't make that mistake again. I break sports cards boxes about every other day for the folks on the beckett forums. They enjoy it. Guess coin hobby is not something you can break unsearched.
And to the guy who asked sincee you did not read the full thread, they were all 1940's coins in very poor condition.
<< <i>You can't prove one way or another whether the roll did or did not fall apart. You still got an ok price just for silver. The guy offered you a refund PLUS your shipping.
Like I said.... we each pick our fights. But...... !!!!!!!!!
Good luck if you persue the negative route..... >>
If I really wanted to post a neg such as the OP seems to want to do, I would wait for 85 days and watch his auctions to see if he posts the same type of auction with the same roll pictured with the same text about being in the original wrapping. To me, that would be proof enough to leave a neg for mis-representing his roll.
There, I've given you the ammunition you'll need to justify the neg/neutral you seem to want to give instead of taking advantage of his offer to refund you the auction plus your shipping charge. In my book, this is a positive all the way regardless of how you read or misread his intentions as the seller seems very up and up about pleasing you with the auction!
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.
<< <i>Ok maybe my new in box example was poor. i collect baseball cards so I will draw another example. If I were to buy an unsearched pack of 86 fleer basketball ( MJ's rookie), and the packaging fell apart so he sent 10 fleer cards in a plastic case... Would you be cool with that for 300$? If the packing fell apart what would be the odds of him not thumbing through the 10 cards and making sure there was no MJ? >>
Ok, let's make this simple.
If YOU were the one selling, and you were being honest about it AND the packaging on the dimes fell apart, WHAT would YOU do? I see about 3 things that could be done and I know what I would have done, but, what would you have done. And if, sending the coins out was the choice you made, how would you have done it? Loose in an envelope? new container? ???

1. I would notify the buyer before I shipped the item. If he was unhappy I would offer full refund and an apology. 2. I would offer him a small discount even *if* he wanted to receive them in a roll since the buyer was clearly bidding against other bidders who though they were getting a original "old" roll 3. I give up, what is the third thing?

That doesn't really work, either. It's clear from the picture in the listing that even if he had sent the exact roll and wrapper as pictured, he could have still looked through them beforehand, and you'd have no way of knowing.
If you don't trust him, return the coins and get your money back. >>
Least it would have been as advertised.
I guess no one agrees with me and that is cool. I'm not going to give him postive, either neutral or negative. If I'm a jerk for doing so, so be it. All he can do is ding me back, which seems to be the popular thing to do. At least no one will ever buy another unsearched roll in the original packing from him , or at least they will have full knowledge of what he actually sends. >>
Thanks for letting us know. While I wouldn't have done what he did (wording or action), I don't need a bidder like what you are doing. Blocking.

1. Yep...same thing I would have done 2. No discount (I wouldn't have) but otherwise, same option 3. Look for old paper roll and put in there.....claim it was color of the pic or something....if someone is being dishonest like this, they may well have other "old" wrappers laying around and just use one of them.
"You just can't please some people, no matter how far you bend over backwards for them."
"Lenin is certainly right. There is no subtler or more severe means of overturning the existing basis of society(destroy capitalism) than to debauch the currency. The process engages all the hidden forces of economic law on the side of destruction, and it does it in a manner which not one man in a million is able to diagnose." I don't get why people are blocking me, but your choice go ahead...
As long as you send me the item pictured in your auction, I'm a perfect customer. I pay within 15 min of auction end 90% of the time, and withing 24 hours 100% of the time. If I order a PCGS MS70 from you and you send me NGC MS70, yes you are going to get dinged. And you DESERVE it. If you selling something NEW IN BOX, and you decide to take it out for shipping reason without notifying me, you WILL get dinged. If you sell me an item via BIN and tell me it is no longer available, you will be DINGED. And again, you DESERVE it. As long as you deliver what you are selling we have no problem. If you are one of these sellers that can't handle getting dinged for failure to deliver item listed, then by all means block me. Heck, if youe one of these give me your ID's so I make sure my wife, or my best friend does no business with you.
<< <i>I would offer him a small discount even *if* he wanted to receive them in a roll since the buyer was clearly bidding against other bidders who though they were getting a original "old" roll >>
There's really no such thing as an "original" roll of circulated coins, and unless these coins were rolled in 1945 (and maybe not even then), there's not a chance in the world the coins could be guaranteed to be both "unsearched" and "Mercury dimes".
miller40, do not worry about people blocking you. my username is half_eagle please block me also.
this forum is just a small part of the coin industry. do not sweat it. people love taking riding the high horse when it comes to ethics. all it takes is a bit of digging on this forum to see when they were new to here and how they made mistakes.

My only point in mentioning that was IMO a old roll has about a 1% chance of finding something. A modern clear plastic roll , your odds drop to 0.0001%.
You received the dimes as described and in a plastic tube because the paper wrapper fell apart as he was shipping it and you are not happy? Is there something really special about the wrapper? It just does not make sense to me as to why you are not happy. If the packaging were special, I could understand, but seeing how it is a very common wrapper and you now have a more valuable plastic tube, why is it such a big deal? Life is way too short for such issues.
