Regarding the new USPS regulations...

Here's a great plan...
When purchasing USPS insurance for your package, you must now choose between two different colored insurance labels. The new brown colored labels are to purchase insurance for items valued at under $200, while the new blue colored insurance labels are for items valued over $200.

A USPS official stated...
"This wonderful new change will make it that much easier for us to steal only those packages containing the most valuable and expensive items, thereby saving us from the risk of stealing your cheaper property."

I have sent things over seas and you must declare all that is the package so if you said I have a gold bar in here, would it reach it destination? Who knows! Not that I am saying the mail people are all bad but there has to be some temptation to someone at times. It is like working at the bank, I am not tempted but I have worked with some that were and they got away with some big money and one in particular has never been put in jail for it and it has been about 4 years now.
Buy the forever stamps when you buy stamps and they are supposed to work forever no matter the price going up! Do you think this is real?

What an ingorant thing for them to do. Just plain ingorant.
Too many positive BST transactions with too many members to list.
<< <i>They've done a pretty good job so far with my packages. No problems after a couple thousand delivered. I would guess that theft will continue to be a non-issue even with these new labels. >>
Maybe, maybe not but I agree that this system is putting in a new level of risk.
I think so, but I think I use less than 1 stamp a month, while they already have my money for the next ten year.

If so then it's more like "We got tired of stealing all those green label packages and not really getting anything for it. Now with these new higher levels, stealing the untraceable insured packages will be worthwhile again."

I don't "get" this one
We used to (up to Friday) just sign the slip and show ID . . . and out you went.
NOW . . . you have to sign on a screen, print your name on a screen, cycle the machine once, then print your full address on the screen.
Just picked up a PCGS box at the PO . . .waited 18 minutes and the line now goes out the door . . . nice improvement!

The point being that you are "advertising" to would-be robbers that they aren't going to get a .44 slug between the eyes by coming in to rob you, thus perhaps emboldening them.
<< <i>Are the new brown labels going to be like the old green labels and just tossed in the mail stream with not tracking or signature when it's delivered, and the New blue has the same handling as the old blue? >>
The new labels, (up to $200), are numbered and entered in the system just like the blue labels. The difference is that delivery is noted electronically without a signature. Blue label ($201 and up), still requires a signature. Insurance wise, it's a major screw job in the $201 to $300 range at $4.60. Then it's 90c per $100 above that.

Sounds like they combined the low value insurance with delivery confirmation. You now pay for the insurance up to $200 and they can say "yes it was delivered. Of course we don't know where or to who. But since it was 'delivered', your out of luck."

Of course it's real. The real issue is, looking at a first class rate chart for the last 40 years, rate increases have averaged 3% per year.
It's not too hard to do better with your money than that.

Agreed...It amazes me what the cost of 1st class mail is in Europe....Got to be at least double of what we are paying. Our rates are probably still one of the lowest on this Planet.
Another thing that pisses me off is when you file a claim for lost or damaged goods you have to prove the value.
If you PAID the freakin insurance it shouldn't matter.
I should be able to send a dog turd and insure it for $500 and if they loose it.........they owe me 500 freakin dollars!!!!!
