One thing I have noticed .... not too much interest around here in refractors ...... they are tough as all get out this year.

    My progress report:

I finished collating - copied the spreadsheet and started "selecting" the best cards for the set.

    I've finished looking at 395 - 495.

I was missing zero cards - good news.

    Now, the critique:

8 SP's are either OC or slightly OC.

Many cards have black ink overspray, surface dimples or a very faint roller indentation can be seen on some cards. Plus, some cards have registration problems.

If someone wanted to put together a PSA 9 set? They would have to open many cases.

Quality grade? Hard to say but at best a B.

In the 21st century, I hardly think Topps has to duplicate 50s printing problems.

I hope I can revise my thoughts once I select the entire set.

This is my 7th Heritage year - and every one of them has certain things that I just don't understand.

If memory serves, the 54T design was loaded with rough cuts. And the 55 or 56 design had serious roller indentation problems.

Now, am I all worked up? Depressed or anything? No. It just makes putting a superb master set together an incredible challenge.

I noticed some of you have named some SP's that are not on the official list. Are there really more than Topps has identified? Example: is 14 an SP?

I could not agree more with your well said comments... Topps QC needs to get off it's butt and fix these 1950's problems. Today's technology should produce grade 8.5 cards as an average, not a goal...

I have never been a fan of the refactor series. All it is, is a chrome with a lower number stamped on it. I think it is a cheesy way to create another subset. Why not a different picture, different back or something? When I attempt to put together a chrome set, i'll pull refactors and use them as my chrome set. Same picture, same number, same thing. I will trade my refactors for chromes if someone needs what I have. I have quite a few from 2006,and some from 03-05.

I know some of you guys are trying to put together an extra base set to possibly sell. I'm not sure if there's a standard trade ratio between base cards and SP's, but I'm really interested in trying to finish my set (still need some SPs). Would anyone be willing to trade lower-end SP's for maybe 15-20 base cards each? I don't want to go over established protocol if a ratio has already been set. Let me know!

It's been a fun weekend of trading. I've got quite a few envelopes going out in the mail tomorrow.

Here are some numbers I put together before I go out Target-hunting....

... I've been fooling around with my calculator and trying to figure out big a print run Topps had for the Heritage brand and I came up with this . . .
Assuming the following fact: There are 2 chromes in every box, here are a few calculations . . .

If there are two chromes (and/or refractors) in every 24-pack box that means if you take the total number of chromes (110 times 1958) which is 215,380 and refractors (110 times 558), which is 61,380. That gives us 276,760 total chrome/refractor cards.

If you divide 276,760 by two you should get the approximate number of boxes of card Topps printed. That’s 138,380 boxes

That would mean approximately 3,321,120 packs (138,380 times 24) are manufactured.

Now, if there is 1 Short Print/Variation card, in every other pack (1:2 ratio), that means there are 1,660,560 short print/variation cards and if you divide that by the number of shortprint/variations (121), that means are approximately 13,724 cards of every short print.

Further, if there 3,321,120 packs and there are approximately 7 common cards in each pack, that means there are about 23,24,7,840 common cards.

And, if you divide that by the 494 common cards in the set, each common card is printed 47,060

If there are any math majors here, maybe you can figure it out or at least improve on my numbers because I'm not a mathematician.

PS: (if you get dizzy just sniff some of the Topps bubble gum) . . .

    Pharber,

    why did you choose 121 sp/variations? aren't there 110 + 33 yellow var's for 143 total?

Also, how does this jibe with the odds stated on each pack for such items as #/25 flashback auto relics? or the #/58 black refractors? or the #/52 autos?

those odds state the chances of pulling one of those #d cards from a pack.

Hey, please let me know how you make out Twenty-five cards is the cut-off point for getting card for card replacement.
Thirty-four may be sticky... Did you send it with tracking ? You might want to call customer service and ask how they will handle that over count...
I have not yet sent back anything this year. My last request for replacement cards experience was disappointing in that I got caught in the policy change and had not sent in the UPC or wrappers.. Two separate mailings of packs of 25 got returned unreplaced..
    Regards,
    Charlie G

Well I was going to get my trade list together this past weekend, but ended up ordering two more retail cases, so the real trade list will have to wait until next weekend. Hopefully there will still be some people wanting to trade. I do have a few chromes to trade, I might end up with some duplicates when the cases come but I can always trade those off.

    Chromes for trade:
    4, 19, 28, 47, 48, 92, 96, 105, and 109

    Clubhouse Relics for trade:
    Pujols Pants, B. Robinson Pants

I won't be doing the Arod set so here are some available:
    51, 52(3), 53(2), 54, 55, 57, 59(2), 60(3), 61,62,63,64,66(2), 67, 68(2),69, 71(3), 72, 74(2)

    Chromes I need:

Being the Old Goat in this bunch I do old stuff mostly except for 84 Dons.I like these 58s as they really go back to my early collecting days. The first cards I ever had was a 1958 Billy Martin and a 1958 Frank Zupo.

We share more than just the same Icon. My first cards were in 1958 and as years went by I thought the surrounding sets - '56, 57 and '59, 60, '61 and '62 were much better. But now that I re-visit the 1958 set, I think it is the most underrated set of the era by Topps. I think these are so much better than last year's Heritage set.

<< <i>Here are some numbers I put together before I go out Target-hunting....

... I've been fooling around with my calculator and trying to figure out big a print run Topps had for the Heritage brand and I came up with this . . .
Assuming the following fact: There are 2 chromes in every box, here are a few calculations . . .

I love it! I am not the only crazy one here. I ran the numbers earlier based on the same parameters as 2 chromes per box avg. LOL!!!! I was just too embaressed to admit it! And now I just did. That's great...good stuff

Yeah, but I was off on the number of SPs. There are appox. 11,000 of each SP and variations, not 13,000 as I extrapolated (sp?)

I decided to see how many basic sets I could build and found something interesting. The quantity of each card is way out of wack. For example I have:

    Card #10 2-Cards
    Card #11 2-Cards
    Card #12 2-Cards
    Card #92 2-Cards

    Card #19 14 Cards
    Card #60 14 Cards
    Card #69 13-Cards
    Card #91 13-Cards

There are others where I have 8-11 Cards and others still where I have 3-4 Cards. I guess I found it strange that there were such a huge difference in the quantity.

I actually have more SP's of certain cards than I do of some of these non SP's. I am curious how these numbers compare to yours? Can anybody check these same card numbers to see if the results are similar?

My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)
