perhaps this particular rendition of the Jamestown arrival hasn't been done, but it seems to be an ongoing theme which i call the "Discovery or Arrival" theme. there are more than enough medallic tributes to this specific arrival and many, starting with Columbus who had the coin first, the Vikings who actually arrived first, the Pilgrims and on through each succeding group of either explorers or settlers who arrived or established some type of permanent residence her in the new land. i just don't understand why it has to keep being re-visited.
consequently, many other potential issues are lost or put on hold. Geez, we already know the kind of stuff that's coming down the pike to a certain degree, so that limits what Congress can authorize. does that limit have to be further reduced by adding yet another arrival coin?? my thinking is that when you have the issue for 100 years there's no need to do something for 200, sort of like we did with the Lewis and Clark theme a few years ago. will we have a Pilgrim-fest of some type in 2020?? Probably. do we need another coin to go along with?? Probably not, but there's a good chance we'll get one. it'll be right on the heels of the WWI Commemorative and right before the Comemmorative to celbrate the 100th Anniversary of the reissueing of the Morgan Dollar, which will be right on the 100th Anniversary of the issueing of the Peace Dollar, which will be........................
i just think once something has been done, it's done. on that point, you might have me on a technicality, so i digress.

It was announced on the Mint website. All you had to do was show up.

We're approaching the centennial of the arrival of the Flaminio clan in America -- think I can get a commem for that?

Ah well that changes things a little, does that include gold? I though gold had a separate limit of 100,000? Which means 250,000 each for the proof and MS Silvers which is still pretty high.

From the mint's website:
>>> The Jamestown 400th Anniversary Silver Dollar is limited to a total of 500,000 coins (across all product options). <<<
>>> The Jamestown 400th Anniversary Uncirculated $5 Gold Coin is limited to a total of 100,000 coins (across all product options). <<<
>>> The Jamestown 400th Anniversary Proof $5 Gold Coin is limited to a total of 100,000 coins (across all product options). <<<
The mint's wording seems confusing. The silver dollars seem to be limited to 500,000 coins between proofs and uncirculateds, while the $5 gold may be limited to 100,000 for both proofs and uncirculateds.
If this is the case, theoretically we could see 350,000 proof and 150,000 uncirculated silver dollars and 100,000 each of the $5 gold.
I like the design. I guess to each his own. I've received the silver and gold proofs. The silver are on the way to PCGS. I'll send the gold proofs with the unc gold when they arrive. Is the "first stike" label a dead duck?

Typically Commemoratives do not have the first strike option.
Received several of all 4 today. Gold UNC, Proof and Silver UNC, Proof.
I am really impressed with the fields of the gold proof. In the SF Mint one you could see the stretch marks or divets (Not sure what to call it) in the fields. In this one it is a pure mirror.
Already got a silver proof and a silver unc. Will get a gold unc. soon. However, somebody was preselling NGC PF70 for $35.01 on ebay already. You can probably get the silver one cheaper on ebay than the U.S. Mint issue price. Very interesting. How do they do it?
I received a lot of these. I was happy with the Proof silver and both of th golds. The UNC silver has so many shiny pin holes and nicks that they distract from the design. Many of them will be below 69 and we shall see if PCGS agrees as they went off this morning. I went through 75 and only found 2 or 3 that I would call 69/70 material.

You are so correct about those imperfections in the Unc silvers.

I actually received my 5 proof silvers today!!
Very nice looking coins and attractive packaging.
Will make a great gift and keepsake.
Tried to pop one out(to inspect) and could not do it....I'm missing something here.
Anyone have a clue on how to safely remove the coin from the mint capsule??

You must be an avid commemorative collector!!!!!
The mint delivered the goods most expediently on such a nice order.

I wish they would do that with my 2 plat sets.
<< <i>received 5-gold unc today.
Got my 1pc. proof gold 1 hr. ago.................
This coin is a dissapointment. It is lifeless, it is flat and it is marked up. No depth of field or design in my opinion.
Back to the mint, I was thinking I was really going to like the obverse design, I think I was mistaken.
Rob
I thought issue was $320 not $230.
Ignore the man behind the curtain. LOL
The proofs look PR70.
I will find out soon.

So far, I've gotten both the Gold Unc and Gold Proof(lovely).......
I also have my silver proofs(sweet)......
And now, I check the Mint Web site for my much anticipated silver Uncs..........."Product will be available for shipping 04/16/2007"
And to think we were told 2/1/07 for the ship date per the U.S. Mint for the past couple weeks online.
I checked my order for those silver Unc's tonight, and it still says "In stock and reserved" with the "Cancel" button gone.
Ironic that these Uncs will be available 1 day after the income tax deadline.
Bottom line, what is going on?????????

DITTO
They looked great to the naked eye, until I pulled out my lighted loupe.
I found is a tiny black spot just below the Indian's lower lip.
I was amazed to find this same flaw on 8 of the 10 coins!!!!
Please check out the "artist rendering" below.
I Photoshopped that damn black spot to give you guys an idea of the location and approx. size.
It's hard to see my faux black spot as the Mint pic shows a very dark shadow under his lower lip.
Needless to say, you should get the idea.
Can anyone tell me what I'm looking at???(Wish I had that USB microscope)
Thanks in advance.
ps. I'm sending all 10 back for complete replacement.
