Enough to get the bulk rate. Although if too many don't make it I might send them back to the mint in protest of the poor quality.

The other two had a few minor imperfections.
I'm very surprised at the Mint's poor QC on these Uncs.
Up till now all was great from the Mint.
Please look closely at your silver Uncs and report back. >>
I actually went back to check some other UNC commems and none of the ones I have contain all of the pin holes. Or at least not in this quantity. They will probably grade MS69 since this is a planchet/strike issue but it sure makes for an unattractive coin. I only found 2 that I would consider to have a full strike.
<< <i>My ship date just got pushed back from 2/01 until 2/23 for my unc dollar.

During the first five days of sales of the 2007 Jamestown 400th Anniversary silver dollars and gold $5 half eagles, the U.S. Mint recorded sales that represent nearly a quarter of the maximum total of dollars authorized, and nearly a third of the half eagles authorized. The Mint sold 24.25% of maximum mintage of silver dollars and 32.75% of the maximum mintage of half eagles. The Jamestown 400th Anniversary Commemorative Coin Act of 2004 authorizes the mint to issue up yo 100,000 $5 gold coins and 500,000 silver dollars. According to the U.S. Mint's Jan. 16 sales report, covering the period from Jan. 10 through Jan. 15, the Mint sold 121,286 of the silver dollars - 83,030 Proofs and 38,256 Uncirculated. The Mint sold 32, 754 of the half eagles - 21,282 Proofs and 11,472 Uncirculated - during the same period. Pre-issue discount pricing will be available through 5pm Feb. 12.
Interesting, many forum members panned this one in other threads but it looks like a lot of collectors/historical buffs have a passion for supporting Jamestown.
I placed my order for the silver proof... I like the look of UNC for commems better than proof, but some reason I decided to go proof... and after seeing this thread, I'm glad I did
Heck I went through 75 of these and think 69 will be tough. This one is not a slam dunk and the MS69's might be going for a premium this time next year.
<< <i>Just received grades on 7 uncirc and 7 proof silvers, all 69's

MS70's
>>
Wow, did you get a chance to see them before shipping to PCGS to see if they have the pin hole issues? Do they count the pin holes as minted and give them 70's?
I should have results back on a bunch by the end of next week. I hope percentage wise I can match you.
In addition to pinhead marks, I notice 2 had obverse milky stains in the exact same spot (7 o'clock position). Very dissappointed with the UNC. The gold and silver proofs look perfect.
I received an uncirculated Jamestown Gold $5 from the mint and found a small piece of green stuff on the obverse of the coin. I returned it to the mint. I am genuinely shocked by their lack of quality control. Do they even inspect their coins? It must cost them an arm an a leg to handle all these return and refund requests.

I doubt it, I would be surprised if 1% of the problem coins get returned. Most people probably don't even bother.
But I think I might buy a set for $104 including shipping. I figure $35 a piece from the mint and $15 to grade is $50 anyway. This way I pretty much know what I'll get and I don't have the hassle of sending back crappy coins.

<< <i>The already graded $5 coins are selling for about $30 above issue price on Ebay.
I'm still pondering whether I should cancel my order with the Mint and acquire the PCGS graded ones. >>
90% of the time if you just want a 69 grade it is cheaper to get it already graded on e-bay. It's the people shooting for that 70 grade that need to buy it raw and submit. Although for the effort the 70 grade prices are pretty low too.

Thanks, I only want a 69 grade. I care more about the coin and its near perfect than perfection
I got a silver proof today on the bay for like 40 bucks graded NGC PF69 UC, I think it was a pretty good deal. I really like the silver over the gold, but still want the gold, maybe later

That's surprising, since the Website showed these coins were not available untill April 1, 2007 just a few days ago..
The site now shows 3/5/07 as the expected ship date.
***Bottom line, I hope they have been QC'd or Becoka and I will not be happy campers!!!!!***
<< <i>Any combo therof, including any proofs in a "legacy" pf set or the like. The ratio of pf to unc varies, but I'm unaware of any modern commem where the uncircs mintage outnumbers the proofs. >>
That's why I usually order only the Unc. Gold coin. I ordered 1 ea of the Silver Unc. & Proof plus the Unc. gold today. My only regret is that I missed the pre-Issue price. I was waiting to order post Feb 15th to piggy-back the Proof Washington $1 sets that never materialized. According to CW the mint was supposed to realeas a golden $1 Prez set, but they have now pushed it back to the "Spring".
Anyway, the Proofs always outnumber the Uncs. and for my money the Uncs. seem to appreciate better over time due to scarcity.

See my previous post RE: pre-issue price
I try not to order coins when they are first offered for sell. My strategy is to piggy-back as many orders from the mint onto one order so that I can save on shipping costs. This strategy really back-fired on my last year when the Franklin commem sold out in 10 days. I had to buy it on eBay and whatever I figured I saved in shipping costs, cost me in the premium that I had to pay on eBay. This is why you shouldn't wait. Because they may offer them for sale all year, but if they sell out early, you're screwed.

thank you. My first sig pic was rejected by the moderator - thus Nurse Ratchet seemed appropriate. First picture was a picture of Lt. Dangle from Reno 911 TV Show.

The gold was really good this time around, This is not mine, I submitted 10 MS and 10 PR gold peices and got lucky with 7 PR70's and 8 MS70's. My best score to date. Unfortunately the prices on the gold 70's is not much compared to the mark up on the silver.
