I apologize for the delay, but here are my results from 1987, 1986, and 1985. I have recently moved, and I'm still settling in. I'll try to post some pictures of the highlights when I have a chance.

1987: Nearly all cards were well centered. Several had corner dings, though. There were a few bigger names -- Jim Plunkett, Art Monk, Roger Craig, Wes Chandler, Tony Dorsett. A cowboy fan might be happy with these...
    265 Timmy Newsome, cowboys
    122 Don Griffin, 49ers
    73 Russ Grimm, Redskins
    171 Deron Cherry, Chiefs
    395 Checklist #2
    270 Bill Bates, cowboys
    134 Pat Leahy, Jets
    184 Bengals team
    267 Mike Sherrard, cowboys
    195 Ross Browner, Bengals
19 1000 Yard Club Art Monk, Redskins
    214 Jim Plunkett, Raiders
    113 Roger Craig, 49ers
    110 Raymond Clayborn, Patriots
    263 Tony Dorsett, cowboys
    342 Wes Chandler, Chargers

1986: There were some centering issues here. Several cards were OC slightly on the front, and most backs were quite OC. Look at all the Jets! The biggest highlight is the Reggie White RC. It is well centered, one corner has a slight touch.
5 Freeman McNeil 1000 Yard Club, Jets
    65 Chris Bahr, Raiders
    99 Wesley Walker, Jets
    102 Mickey Shuler, Jets
    110 Dave Jennings, Jets
    133 Randy White, cowboys
    134 Jim Jeffcoat, cowboys
    138 Phil Simms, Giants
    155 49ers Team
    189 Earnest Byner, Browns
    250 Curtis Green, Lions
    260 Eddie Brown, Bengals
    266 Robert Jackson, Bengals
    274 Paul McFadden, Eagles
    275 Reggie White, Eagles
    277 Herman Edwards, Eagles
    304 Bill Kenney, Chiefs
    363 William Andrews, Falcons

1985: This is the best pull for me so far, because it was nice to see a Joe Montana card. It has the slightest edge wear. It is well centered, but also has some small ding in the front border and a print line or something on the edge. Other notables are the Marcus Allen sticker, and Charlie Brown.
    Stickers:
    105 Marcus Allen, Raiders
    268 George Rogers, Saints
    Cards:
    12 Stacey Bailey, Falcons
    67 Paul Coffman, packers
    93 Tommy Hannon, Vikings
    97 Darrin Nelson, Vikings
    157 Joe Montana, 49ers
    161 Freddie Solomon, 49ers
    178 Charlie Brown, Redskins
    191 Joe Washington, Redskins
    198 Bills Team
    209 Bengals Team
    224 Reggie Camp, Browns
    229 Al Gross, Browns
    284 Chris Bahr, Raiders
    305 Kim Bokamper, Dolphins
    347 Marvin Powell, Jets

Does anyone know what Topps did away with the sticker inserts?

They were super cool in '83 (as an actual sticker card) but were still enjoyable up through '86.

Why the nix on those I wonder?

I have no idea, but I do remember buying some interesting "boxes" of Topps football cards in the early/mid 80s. IIRC, they were hanging boxes and were fairly tall, like two card tall. I think the boxes had special 1000 yard card (or stickers). I could only find them in one store in Wisconsin, so we stopped there whenever we went to visit my grandparents. Do these ring a bell with anyone? When I was a kid, it seemed like the only way to get the special cards was in these strange boxes of cards. I'd say they were roughly equal to a rack pack, but in a box.

    Anyone?

So nobody got a Rice RC? I get the feeling that a lot of people couldn't hold out and cracked their packs soon after obtaining them. Maybe interest has dwindled in the time since but I would think that if someone pulled a Rice RC they'd show up to post a scan.

Hopefully someone yanks a Marino RC and a Montana RC. I think I'm enjoying this thread more than some that are actually involved. image

I wish that everyone had the same enthusiasm as some of us about these pack breaks. The whole point was to post the results and root each other on to get the best cards from the packs. But, looks like there is a large percentage of the folks that aren't even participating at all. If they'd like to, they can send the packs to me and I'll rip and post the results with scans for them image

It's not a stain, it's just part of the picture. Do a search for Darrell Greens on Ebay. They've all got it.

I got a mix of a couple previously posted packs. How cool is it to pull an Elway rookie from a pack of cards! O/C though it may be.

In addition to the scan, I also pulled:

    42 - Pete Johnson - Bengals
    112 - Rod Martin - Raiders
    133 - Tony Collins - Patriots
    155 - Darrol Ray - Jets
    189 - Steve August - Seahawks
    198 - Curt Warner - Seahawks
    200 - Jeff West - Seahawks
    251 - Jeff Chadwick - Lions
    326 - Harold Carmichael - Eagles
    342 - Roy Green - Cardinals

As you can see, my Darrell Green also has that big blob in the background.

Here's what I had in my 1984 pack:

    383 Dexter Manley - Redskins
    107 Ray Guy - Raiders
    95 Henry Marshall - Chiefs
    161 Gary Anderson - Steelers
    230 Mike Richardson - Bears
5 John Riggins 24 Touchdown record
    78 Chris Dressel - Oilers
    44 Max Montoya - Bengals
    209 William Andrews - Falcons
93 Bill Kenney IR - Chiefs
    329 Dennis Harrison - Eagles
    137 John Hannah - Patriots
    4 Mark Moseley record breaker
    348 Lionel Washington - Cardinals
    21 Bills team card

The cards were really nice for the most part, but no big names...

Although, for some reason, I think back and remember I was excited to pull a William Andrews back then.....not sure why

Also, I remember when Mark Moseley broke the record for consecutive field goals -- was that in 1983?

The '84 pack rip continues! I hated to see my Elway rook already taken. (The only one I own so far I've shared before: Franco Harris front Elway back.)

Here are some of my favorite pulls and better-centered cards:

    The whole pack consisted of:

    245 Ron Springs (Cowboys RB)
    60 Mike Pruitt (Borwns RB)
    296 Benny Ricardo (Vikings K)
    327 Herman Edwards (Eagles CB)
151 Pat Leahy (Jets K; gum back)
3 1983 Record Breaker - Eric Dickerson (Rams RB)
    12 Curtis Dickey (Colts RB)
242 Ed "Too Tall" Jones (Cowboys DE)
    29 Booker Moore (Bills RB)

Okay, just tell me this. Have you gotten anyone whose last name would rhyme with Dontana?

I, too, have to confess that this past Saturday, after opening my '82 baseball pack, and after perhaps one too many beers, I opened all I had left in both the baseball and football rips. I just couldn't stop. It was like hooking up with a girl you know you shouldn't. The next morning I felt too ashamed to post anything; ditto on Wednesday for football... But I'm over it, now, and I hope y'all will forgive my unfaithfulness.

There wasn't much to speak of or scan of in my '84 pack. Here's the best it had to offer:

OKAY, I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I, too, will fess up. I've opened my packs. All of them. It took me about three weeks, but I couldn't do it anymore. I'm ashamed.

My packs sucked, and I lost interest. I apologize.

I'm here now to catch up and beg for forgiveness. image

Boy, it seems like I was the only one that hasn't busted open all of my packs.

You buncha' pack busters! Oh well, no one can blame you. But, you must've upset the pack rippin' gods and ended up with less than stellar cards. So, no one pulled the Jerry Rice rookie? So far no Marino rookies?

By the way, if anyone wants to send me their '85 commons or otherwise that you think have a shot at a PSA 9, I would gladly accept them image

Arny, I am still a non opener survivor also....I still have the 80-83 packs sitting on my desk undisturbed.......to be honest it hasn't really bothered me that much since I've been so busy at work and at home.........I'll continue to open them one a week as was planned and hopefully have some better luck with what is left.

Sorry it took so long to get a scan of the Marino. The card is off center pretty bad but I did get a pretty decent Lawrence Taylor card.

With having both the Football and Baseball rips, I've been able to 'feed the need' every few days, so hasn't been that bad.

Although, this box of '84 Donruss sitting in front of me is VERY tempting! image

First time that I've ripped '83 Topps Football. Not too bad as far as player selection in my pack with the 2nd year Ronnie Lott & others, but all the cards were warped in my pack. The gum really damaged the card that it was on in the back. Glad it was only a common. Here's the scan and pack info.....

    image

...the rest of the pack goes like this....

    '82 Record Breaker Mike Nelms
    Rich Camarillo - Patriots P
    Richard Todd - Jets QB
    James Wilder - Bucs RB
    Billy Jackson - Chiefs RB
Jimmie Giles - Bucs TE (Sticker)
    Ray Wersching - 49ers K
    Donnie Craft - Oilers RB
    Elois Grooms - Cardinals DE

Here are the contents of my '83 pack:

    James Lofton sticker #19

    #128 Dave Jennings - Giants
    #147 Max Runager - Eagles
    #358 Terry Bradshaw - Steelers
