Check out Item number: 8413065183 (linkee please). I emailed the seller that it appears to be fake (altered date), and received the following response:
Thanks so much for the info...I truly appreciate it. It is being graded as we speak

Oh yeah, he's gonna get a real nice letter in that grading package.
That's the crappiest looking 5 I have ever seen!
It looks like they made a counterfeit coin...and then altered the date. Double trouble.

Is he going to the closet to get a PRESTO slab?

<< <i>Forget the date - look at the rest of the coin. It appears to be a complete fake, not just an altered date. >>
Yes. Cast counterfiet, very poorly made.

so i asked her what grading service?--no reply yet.
a.) obvious fake, to all, bidders, buyers, seller, and ebay.
b.) why is the auction allowed to complete.
this is harmful to all of ebay's coin 'customers', bidders and sellers.
when someone auctions an 1895, it should immediately come to ebays attention for screening. immediately. now suppose, they just let it go, have the bidder then complain, get refund, seller gets NARU, paypal disupute/refund, whatever. you telling me this is easier and cheaper, for ebay, then shutting down the auction in the first place?
what a bunch of marooons. and i'll repeat, this ruins it for the legit buyers and sellers.
<< <i>This coin is an obvious counterfeit. Selling this fake is a federal offense. If you're smart, you'll shut this auction down now before you get arrested for fraud. >>

<< <i>hasn't been graded but if no one bids on it, It will be graded and relisted for much more >>
Yet in 2 replies to people here that have questioned the seller they claim it is being graded now. I think that in itself refutes the new seller excuse or 'unknowing' seller.
New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
Thanks so much for the concern, we are having it graded as we speak, so hopefully all concerns will be lifted before very much longer, I would never intentionally wrong anyone, so before anyone ever paid one dollar for it, it would be graded. Thanks again!...
Sounds like the seller may have not realized what was going on.... or just trying to make a quick buck, take your pick. I tend to think that the seller was unaware of the authenticity of this coin. A seller with a feedback score of 2541 with 100% positives usually is a straight shooter.
With all that being said I think either the seller or eBay should yank the auction now.

We haven't gotten the mob fired up for a while here. Maybe eBay will notice if it goes up to a million....
