I can understand your concern....the guy I am selling this for will be at my house tomorrow morning if you would like for me to have him call you as soon as he gets here I can. We are not going to sell a fake/counterfiet coin to anyone, his mom works at the bank and she says it is not a fake, not that she's an expert, but they are taught what to look for. I do think that one side of the coin has more wear than the other and that is throwing some people off. But we will make sure of everything before hand. Do you live near South Carolina? He will be willing to meet you half way if it isn't to far for you. I am really sorry that you have been stressed over this....but please don't if you are the winning bidder, I will make everything right! You have my word!!!!! I don't do business that way! Thanks for your bid by the way.....I truly appreciate it, and like I said Brian will be here tomorrow if you want him to call you let me know or you can call me at home, 864-947-**** ...he should be here around 9:00 or 10:00 eastern time. Thanks again! Melonie

Could be the seller really doesn't know what she's got.

The same incident, kind of, happened with another eBay Trader selling signed scripts. I knew they were fake, so I contacted the seller. After a back and forth she pulled all the auctions. She was selling something she knew nothing about for someone else. In the long run the owner rakes in the profits while the seller is left mopping up the mess.

These 100% positive, high feedback eBay sellers are prime for rip-offs from others wanting to use their good reputation to sell their counterfeit and/or fraudulent crap.
Edited to remove the phone number in the quote.

I just got off the phone w/eBay explaining why this coin is a fake. It is hard sometimes for folks who don't commonly handle rare coins to realize if a coin is a fake or not. She is now actively working to remove the listing off of eBay and to investigate the seller's other offerings. I will be including a link to this thread as well.

That would be my guess. If the email exchanges weren't happening, I would have guessed a possible highjacked account. It just doesn't seem likely that someone would sell a couple thousand CDs with no problem customers whatsoever and then try to rip people off with a counterfeit coin. This is the type that walks into a couple coin shops with such a coin they acquired and doesn't believe or trust either dealer's assessment that it is a clear counterfeit.

    Imagine that!
2,500++ feedbacks. 100% positive and it ends up, after all the negative comments made about this seller, she was duped too and is a victim rather than a scammer.

I wonder if she'll be receiving any apology emails...

<< <i>I have sent her an email telling her that those two coins are not genuine and asked her to cancel the auctions. Let us see what happens now. She is a trading assistant also. (whatever that is.) >>

A Trading Assistant is simply an eBay drop off business that sells items on eBay for others for a percentage of the sale. If sh ruly is a Tading Assistant then it is quite probably that she has no idea about what she is selling and is simply passin on what the person who dropped it off told her about it.

wow...this is still up for auction. I would have thought with all the e-mail traffick indicating this was a bogus piece that the seller would have pulled it by now.

Well, ending an ebay listing is pretty complicated, especially for a Trading Assistant™

I thought she would have pulled it by now, but it was still there! I'd be a super-hypocrite after the fairt**** deal not to pay for a coin I bid on.

    Message sent to seller.

E-Bay doesn't care, so unless seller pulls it, someone will get burned.

If you list a coin as counterfeit on e-bay, they'll pull it. List a counterfeit and don't say anything, then you're ok. Honesty doens't pay on e-bay

    Quick reply from seller.

Hoepfully they've gotten the message, but they still don't seem to take action:

Mental image this conjures up: sweat dripping from her brow, scraped knuckles, determined grimace as she stares at the recalcitrant listing, yelling to her assistant: "not the three-quarter Griply! I said, gimme the ten-eighth's whatchamacallit, and fast! I'm gonna actively work to remove this listing, or die trying!!!"

Assistant: "But maam, I removed a listing once, took all of 30 seconds, just had to push a couple buttons"

I'm really disappointed at the level of concern eBay has for listings like this. I had a detailed conversation with a representative from eBay and emailed them a page long list of reasons why this coin is a counterfeit and how to detect it. I can't believe they are taking this long to remove it!

Perhaps "nothiscoin" is someone with deep enough pockets that can sue the seller and ebay for fraud

By now, I assume this has been reported to eBay through the "contact customer service" page no fewer that 10 times with predictable results. Does the Secret Service have a "contact customer service" page?

Where is the ANA in all of this? The ebay workshop I attended for the free shirt at Long Beach a while back said the ANA was their POC for resolving numismatic problems on there.

She did not reply to my inquiry as to what grading service she was having it athenticated by.

She has added to the description that the reeds were counted and there are 179 reeds -i guess that guarentees authenticity-i am going to place my snipe bid right now.image
