My newest pick-up -today at Santa Clara, GRADE REVEALED...

I just got back from the show in Santa Clara and had a great time. I saw many nice Morgan dollars, some nice early commems, among other impressive gems. Once again, I spent a lot of time talking with Larry Shepherd of Simco and absorbed as much knowledge from him as possible.
I met Doug (uofa1285) who was very friendly and had some very image coins, especially his icon coin image. I picked up the following 1918 Illinois (Lincoln). I've been looking for a while for a very nicely toned Illinois with pretty luster and finally found one. The actual toning, luster and contrast are more appealing than I was able to image with my initial pics.
Comments welcome and please give a guess to the grade???image

    AWESOME toning - 66? image
  • I can't believe I forgot to look up uofa1285's table. I did see a table with prices on the front of the coins, all neat toners. There was a very young person behind the table. I didn't introduce myself...
  • Beautiful Illinois. MS66

Edited: After further review I believe it is more likely a MS65.

Excellent example... MS66. I really like the design of this coin... especially the reverse.

  • IMO 64, small abrasions in the right field i think would make it a 64, although the reverse is a 66.

super nice Lincoln ... nicest toning/luster combo I've seen on one of these in a long time!

    I'm thinking 66 ... maybe a * coin

    great pickup!

  • 66* great looking coin.

  • I love that coin, Dizzyfox.

The Illinois is in my top three list of favorite commems. And to find a nice example like that with some color... ummm. I like how the toning runs through the top of Lincoln's hair. Very nice.

I absolutely hate grade guessing from images. But, I will go 66, possibly even a 67. Having said that, I saw a lincoln with color a lot like that in a 64 holder once. So who knows.

    Nice addition to your collection.

From the picture, I would guess either a very pretty MS65, or NGC MS64*.

Thanks Dizzyfoxx for coming by and introducing yourself. It was great to meet you, Skyman and Coingame2000 (Mikey).

You all have AWESOME coins that left me drooling!

The show was great and I had a wonderful time as a first time dealer with my own corner table. My sales were few but the gross figures very high so I am pleased.
