A Little Something I've Decided To Put Together (Caution Worn/Dirty Draped Bust Halves Enclosed)

stmanstman Posts: 11,352 ✭✭✭✭✭
I've never been a "set builder" but since I already have the tough 1801 and 1802
I decided to complete this short set of Draped Bust Halves large eagle. Some folks like
to match coins (color) in a set. For me, I have no interest, as IMO with toned coins they all have
their own personality. Besides that.... If I wanted to match them I would just put together blast white ones!image
Not sure how many folks can appreciate something like this but I sure do.
I might end up upgrading the 1806 to match the others as far as condition though.

Yes it is a nice collectors' set although given the price of nice looking 1801 and 1802 half dollars, those two coins are fast getting into a more elite territory. It’s interesting that the two much better dates (1801 and 1802) that much nicer coins the two common dates (1806 and 1807).

    Stman,

Great start. If you can complete this short but difficult date series, you will have an enviable group of rare coins. The 1806 knb 6's are really hard to find nice, but keep it up. And if you come across a MS 1805, while you are looking for the right one for your set, write ME !!!

Well, I don't consider myself "elite."image Yes prices have and are rising on the 01-02. Actually that 01 I bought a few months ago I believe.
At the recent SF ANA I was offered a 50% profit if I wanted to sell it...... and that was from a dealer.

The 1802 I posted while the scan looks like the coin head on, it actually has some luster and the album colors become iridescent a bit.
Considering the condition/wear it is quite lively. The 1806 I've had for quite some time. And the 1807 looks MUCH better in person as well.
I just buy what I like, and now on to 1803 and 1805. And thanks for all the good words folks!!!!

    Stman,

Nice draped bust halves! I like the 1807 O.105a with the reverse die chips.

Beautiful---I envy you the 1801 and 02. Nice strike on the 1807 and the 06 is my favorite O-116 (because I have one that I am partial to) Have you attributed them--know you have--please share.

Awesome goins Stman, of course like everyone else I covet your 01 and especially 02 coins
(aLthough I seem to remember you having a very choice AU 1806 coin, was it an O-120? Still have that one?

You know I'm a big fan of these, I'm 2 coins short of completing my set "by Redbook variety" ....... Still need the 1802 and one other
(anyone have a spare 1802 in VG?)
My coins also form a bit of a grading set from Good through EF, as well as a "slab type set" with all the major slabs and a few minor ones
(as well as some coins with no plastic at all)

OK--the 1806 is an O-116 r3 and the 1807 is an O-105a r4 (nice going)--how about the other two--feeling too lazy to attribute--the Overton book is heavy and I've had a long day.

the 1801 is easy... the O.101 has the die lumps near the arrows. No lumps means O.102

the 1802 is also easy... only one die pair.. all genuine 1802's are O.101

We all agree on the Overton attribution. I didn't state them in my post though. Don't want to look like

That's a darn nice group!image Even though you only need the "easy" coins, they are still tough to locate in original, problem-free condition with positive eye appeal. Good luck.
