It must have taken the patience of Job to have carved THAT on the reverse of a small cent. I was thinking large cent when I first saw it.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
<< <i>When will that be coming up for auction ? >>
Not sure yet. I have several groups I need to get organized, imaged and scheduled. I pulled this one out of a group and imaged it ahead of the rest just because it's so damned cool I wanted to share it.
That's a real neat engraved cent. It should bring a good price on Ebay. The positive response here is an indication of what people will be thinking when they see it on Ebay. This is much better than most love tokens, that have only initials or a couple words. A lot of effort was put into it.
<< <i>It'll bring at least $150 on Ebay (Probably more), as long as you PM with the link to the auction >>
Oh well, guess I won't be putting my grimey hands on this one. No way in heck I'm gonna pay an amount like that for it. >>
Carved Coins often go in this range and much higher, especially ones such as this. That is, providing, that the right collectors know that they're for sale.

Note that the carver misspelled "this" as "thig" on this coin..
if it's not the novelty of it on a cent, there's a medal from the 1939-1940 Golden Gate International Exposition catalogued as HK-479 with the Protestant version of the prayer. the size is approximately that of a quarter.

That would be a breach of etiquette since it's a private treaty sale, but it was enough that he didn't hesitate to accept it.
BTW, I had no idea this thing had this much value. I figured it for a novelty item worth only a few dollars.
