I'd love to enter this contest (and win of course!). Franklins are the love of my hobby. I haven't been financialy stable enough to purchase any in about a year though. I think that the reason I like them so much is because when my Grandfather passed away on Christmas night in 1980, there was a huge coaster type Franklin in my stocking that he put in there.

Lucy, I have A recording by Charles "Buddy" Holly from 1954 when he did a demo with Bob Montgomery. I have every song he ever recorded...from his debut with Decca in 1956 in Nashville with a group called Buddy Holly and the 3 tunes...1 year before the Crickets Not bad for a 16 year old huh? RJ
Count me in lucy, There are some great members here on this board and I have learned so much from lurking and posting here over the years. I have been mostly lurking the last 2 years when I get a chance because of my status in the Military and have had to put my collecting on the back burner. Thanks for the give away. The 50's in Chicago was really something to remember. I was there and lots of great memories. I have several cars but all from the 60's and 70's. I want my 56 Olds back again. And the old coins were all new then but like a dummy kid, how was I to know I'd be buying today what I was throwing around back then.

<< <i>The 50's suddenly came to an end circa late 1963 to 1964 when:
Kennedy replaced Franklin on the half dollar
The Beatles, Stones et all replaced Elvis, Dionne & the Belmonts, Frankie Valley et al as the pop music cult icons
The Ford Mustang was introduced, the Corvette was redisgned (cir 1963) and the VW's became poplar
The war in Vietnam began to roll
The Yankees dominance of baseball ended when they won their last pennant until 1976
The Civil Rights Laws were enacted
