Heritagegate 2005 Can see it now--- Basilone and Kevin in an underground parking garage with a Topps Executive they call "Toppsthroat". They are trying to determine whether the lightbacks were planned or not. They have deceided to write a book about their experience, become very wealthy, and buy the Topps Company for themselves. They refuse to devulge the name of "Toppsthroat." However they did share one line with the news media that he did say--- "Follow the money." Craig
I really don't understand the point of searching these packs for game used. I sold all of my seat relics and bat cards and most got me less than $7, my Musial seat got me 10 on a BIN. I got a $1 each for 3 of my bats, my Banks bat got me 6.50 and killebrew bat got me 6.75. Now, I suppose if you happen on one of those 1:12,261 pack autod/game used you're in the money... Topps got smart this year and moved the sticker to the middle of the card (at least more towards the middle, and away from the edges) which should help deter a lot of pack feelers finding the autos by feeling the stickers using the ole "shuffle" method. Great news for those hunting the autos and actually buying packs to get them.
Damn pack searchers!!!! Went to another random target and there are 3 OPEN 12x2 boxes of Heritage. All with little rips on the right hand side of the packs!!!! I bought ten packs anyway.
NOW HERE THIS>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>. The idiot pack searcher missed a CHrome refractor of Jason Bay/556! Im ean if your gonna search packs, do it right???!!!!?!? Karma my friends!!!!
This is my first forum of any type, so please bear with me. The 2005 Topps Heritage set. using the 1956 Topps style is magnificent. This is the first heritage set I have collected, including the sp's and insert cards, 530 cards do constitute a master set. Right? Back in the old days, a master set would include every card printed, including the white backs, pose variations, every error card not caught by QC while the printing presses were still running. I am an older set builder, with all variations included, I have kept the following sets, Topps 1956, 1959 and 1960. I have put together every Topps set from 1956 to 1975. I want to thank everyone that has posted on this forum, concerning the 2005 Topps Heritage set. I really appreciate and read, each and everybody's input. I would like to know why isn't Bonds in the Giants team card ! So please verify for me, without the 220 light gray backs, how can a set with 530 cards, not including the 2 checklist be called a master set. If you would collect the 220 light gray backs, would Topps also have printed these same cards on regular gray back stock. Please help me to confirm. Is 530 cards or 750 cards with white backs, the master set. Thank's to all of you for your help. Basilone, I tip my cap to you, for having the stamp, you should be proud. I served my country in Vietnam 1969-70. Keep up the great job !
pack searchers suck, we can all agree on that. I must admit that many are just dumb, passing over obvious booty. What is going to be worth more on ebay...the 4 chromes and one refractor or the one GU??
I hate that some of them will pull autographed GU but for the most part they will be the ones listing the .50 auctions and selling for .53
I can tell you that there is a lot in this product that a searcher can miss...go have fun and don't forget the gorilla glue!
Hey mudflap, 12 sp's, 2 FB's, and four chrome is about the going rate for hobby boxes, so if you're gonna get too pissed you may not want to buy any.
I've bought two hobby boxes, 12 hobby packs from a card shop, and four retail packs from walmart. That's 64 packs and i have 33 sp's.
Here's my question. I don't have enough cards yet to answer it myself. There are 220 light backs, right? And it is verified that the 220 light backs do have a grey variation as well? It just so happens that the lightbacks I have I don't have doubles of to compare with. But out of my 64 packs, I only have about 20 light backs, and six of those came in one pack.
SPAM ALERT....SPAM ALERT..... I have a handful of the chromes, refractors, NA performers etc if anyone wants to buy/trade PM me and i'll send you a list.
basilone- What is going on? I just found this thread and the funny thing is I just bought a box for my 8 year old son. He loves them and so do I. I knew that there would be SP cards but not this many. Is anyone interested in selling their duplicates? Is anyone crazy to do the refractor set? If anyone has tons of duplicates besides John, please email me and I will send over a list.
Thanks, Shaneleo@aol.com shane

Some late breaking news...live from our ABC affiliate reporter in Florida
Dateline March 1, 2005. A malee insued inside a local Walmart in Jacksonville Florida this evening. It appears that a local heritage baseball devotee had an altercation with an infamous pack searcher - one "three fingers Morticai" - reporters live on the scene say Morti was being carried off in a stretcher where it is alleged that he was badly injured....details are sketchy at this point but it seemed to involve a can of Quaker state 10W40 and a mop handle! The defender of the faith is known as JS by his trading partner and was only slightly injured when a half opened box of 2005 Topps Heritage hit him in the eye. No charges have been filed on the incident and JS is doing well. JS was not available for comment and was released at the scene.
As a follow-up, Morticai has been banished to Ventura County, California, otherwise known as Heritage Siberia, where his criminal skill cannot possibly be of any harm to anyone.
"Charlie, here comes the deuce. And when you speak of me, speak well."
You guys are going to get tired of me talking about my wonderful wife, but I have another chapter in the story of her help in my Heritage collecting. In homage I have changed my icon back to her picture, although she looks even better now.
You may remember in the last post that Deanna used a hobby store gift certificate that she received as a present to get me a box of Heritage. She could not find anything that interested her though she is a sports fan.
Yesterday she stopped at WalMart on her way to work to pick up a few things. While I was in the shower she called me and I returned her call a few minutes later. She said she had figured out the answer to her question, "never mind." On my way to work a short time later I stopped at the same store to check for Heritage. I found an open 12 X 2 box with 7 packs taken, and a sealed 12 X 2 box. Since she and I always coordinate on purchases larger than $50 dollars I called her to see if we could afford buying all of the stock. She is a financial wizard and makes sure that I get all of the toys I like and in exchange buys enough shoes to make her the Imelda Marcos of Southwest Florida. She laughed and said "I just bought you six packs, go ahead and get the rest." So I wound up with all but one pack in one 12 X 2, and a sealed one also. The best yield from the open box came from the six packs she bought, many cards that I needed. For the first time I also pulled some light backs.
I received orders yesterday to travel to Ohio (brrrrrrrr) for work, which may last weeks or months. This kind of stinks since the Red Sox and Twins are just getting started here and I won't be able to hang out at spring training, but the money is great. The sealed box and all of my Heritage will go with me so that I can trade with everyone.
Thanks again to John Basilone for the spreadsheet. It's great for tracking what you have by highlighting the cells with different colors for singles, dupes, triples, etc. Now I just need an easy way to sort out the needs and dupes other than copy and paste.
It's finally arrived here in Las Vegas. I bought four packs last night at Target. I'm waiting for the Booster Boxes. I did pull an Alfonso Soriano New Age Player #1 and a Boston Red Sox Team card. Love the cards!!! Does anyone have any idea when Topps is going to publish a Checklist or know where I can get one?
Scott

To have a Base Set, All the SP & Variations, Flashbacks Set, Then & Now Set, New Age Performers Set, and the 220 card White Back set....I recommend 2 Ultra Pro type binders with 42 pages each. This will hold the cards perfectly.
Getting VERY good SP/Insert results on the latest Blaster Boxes - 6 in one, 7 in another. Still only 1 chrome per box though (out of the 5 I've bought, I've only had one box with 2 chromes). No refractors, 1 GU (Manny Ramirez jersey), and the only whitebacks I've gotten came out of the first pack of the first box. I know these cards all came from the same case, and I pulled the same sequence of greyback cards from another box, which leads me to believe that the whitebacks are most definitely intentional.
I'm a day late and a dollar short and I don't care.
I have about 100 extra base cards, and am still way short of a base set. I know I'll eventually put a base together myself, but if any of you guys who are building multiple sets for resale have any SPs I will trade you 10 base per extra SP or chrome you want to send my way.
Well.. You guys got me interested enough to buy two packs of '05 Heritage baseball today. (first baseball packs I've bought in 8 years) I bought it mostly for the gum.. One stick for my wife.. one stick for me. The cards are really nice.
Well they are finally here. Checked Target last night, nothing. Cheked TRU, nothing. Checked Walmart, BINGO. They had a full 12/2 retail box and 2 of the 8 pack Bonus boxes. I bought the 2 boxes and left the opened box for those who were there affter me. I would have to say that If I opened these packs and didnt know any better, that the dark backs would seem more scarce. I would say at least 75% of the cards are light backs. No autos, no relics, no black chrome. As soon as I figure out what all the SP's are for sure, I will post a count. Cant believe it took almost 2 weeks to get them here though.
Before I look on eBay or Sims Classics, here are the remaining six cards I want from 2005 Topps Heritage. I don't have any to trade (unless you want some 2001 Topps Heritage), so I would be happy to buy these cards (preferrably in one package if possible):
#7-Ichiro (On Deck) SP #13-Chad Tracy (Gray Back) #442-Brian Roberts SP
Chrome: #THC49-Ichiro
New Age Performers : #NAP3-Ichiro
Then and Now: #TN1-Hank Aaron/Ichiro
Thanks to anyone that can help.
James
I collect Vintage Cards, Commemorative Sets, and way too many vintage and modern player collections in Baseball (180 players), Football (175 players), and Basketball (87 players). Also have a Dallas Cowboy team collection.
So I had to go out shopping with the wife and we end up at Target. I have all the cards I wanted to buy this year. But, you know how it is. You see an open box. I couldn't resist. I grabbed it and walked to the check out. The clerk has the gall to say, "Look at the box. It says you can't buy them all. I'm embarassed. People are giving me bad looks behind me. Old guy with gray hair buying baseball cards. I say OK, can grab a handful. But one falls out of my hand and it is sort of thick. So I take it, you never know. When I open it -- yes, as soon as I get in the car, it is a black border Jim Thome card. One in 250 packs. Lucky. Lucky. Lucky. I would have spent over 75 dollars for the whole thing, ended up paying about $25. The jerks.
Hey fellas, I got my wantlists/tradelist on BST forum thread. Please check it out. I'm also looking for Cardinals Chromes, Ref's, and Pujols, Edmonds, and Matheny SP's. Also anything before 2004 H LMK. PM me please.
Do you guys have #242 AJ Pierzynski down of the official white back list? I didn't see tonite when i was going through it. Just curious.
I would rather have a pack searcher go through the box first and nab all those extra thick packs with checklists in them. I would rather have the SPs, Chromes, and Autos.

The jerks.
<< <i>The clerk has the gall to say, "Look at the box. It says you can't buy them all." >>
That's idiotic. What kind of cro-mag retail employee tells a customer they can't spend money?
I used to work for Target. I like the store. But that was moronic.

Lucked into a 24 count retail sealed box today. A friend of a friend deal. I was not going to ask how
he got the box or where it came from. Two columns of 12 packs each. White backs were only in the
left hand column. I got zero white backs in the right column. There were 14 SPs, no variations, just
SPs, and 13 of the 14 were from 398 up. Card #79, Ishii, was the only one under 398 that was an SP.
Was also a noticeable lack of rookie cards--- only 3. No "Big Ticket" cards. Probably means nothing,
just for your information. Craig

<< <i>could the winner be a relative?? >>
I was wondering the same thing Kevin. I was tempted to write the guy and ask.
