Ive ran into pack searcher scum too quit a bit. I think there is someone else here just buying everything because there is just
none here in the retail market. I ripped another hobby box tonight and it had all the sp's in it I already had...that sucks. It did
have a bunch of light backs. Funny thing is I bought 12 retail packs two night ago and pulled a Konerko refractor...I buy 24 packs
of hobby tonight and pulled a Konerko refractor...whats the odds of that?? It might actually be easier to pull a cut than to do that
    again!

as far as the cuts. I really think that one person will buy all the cuts and complete what is one heck of a master set. I have seen guys
do it in the past, so this would make sense. Of course it only takes one guy to run an ebay auction and not stop it early and we
might see one of these get very very expensive...keep in mind the two biggies havn't been pulled yet.

I can't believe how big this whole heritage thing has gotten on here. It started from just a few collectors and has caught fire. Has anyone
competed a master set yet....and of course the light backs have to be counted too! Has the trading started yet or are people still not
    done busting?

Anyone here inspired to do previous sets now that 2005 is almost in the bag??

The seller had a low feedback...no recent sportscard sales. Add that with no scan of the back....you get a cheap price.

If I sold that card...it would of gone for more than $449. Expect this one to be relisted on eBay with a better listing.

I would not argue with you but I think that may be a fair price considering the guy. I have no idea but what would a letter/auto go for of the guy? The going cut sig value will play a little - now let's see what happens when the Ike comes up?

Hi, I went to Target this morning and bought a few packs of Heritage. My first modern buy in years! I got an a-rod, 2-Sosa's in the same pack and some real shiny card of shawn green with a # on the back. If I got any good rookies I wouldnt know because I havent followed modern in forever.
Could someone tell me some of the better pulls from these packs.

    Hi Ken
It seems to be hit and miss. My target has the single pack 24 ct. retail but not the full box 8 ct. booster boxes. My wife went to Walmart for me and nada!
Just keep searching - believe it or not, at the end of the cycle, that's what you will remember best - the Hunt for Heritage!

I have ripped a total of 32 packs and here is my take.

27 SPs and inserts. 4 chrome, 1 Rickie Weeks refractor, 1 Arod GU bat. The rest are the short print 400's set (14), and the inserts.
    No variation SPs.
    44 dupes.

Still looking for unsearched retail and booster boxes. None again today.

My dupes if anyone is interested. Also will consider trading the Weeks refractor. PM or e-mail SoFLPhillyFan

    Sorry for the blurry image.

My wife and I wandered around to various Targets and Meijer's today. There were no booster boxes to be found, just open boxes. Now, last night I bought a freshly-opened 12x2 box at Meijer, and let my wife pick four "karma" packs out of the other open box. We did all right -- pulled a Duke Snider seat card from the fresh box, and she managed to hit a Pujols bat card in her four packs. We left the rest of that box sitting on the shelf. We'll come back to it later.

The packs today weren't starting out all that spectacular. At the first target, I bought 8 packs, only to discover that one of them had had its bottom pulled open by some pack-searching scumbag. Said pack searcher, however, was looking for bright white cards, and therefore left the Delmon Young refractor/556 sitting there, waiting for someone to buy the tampered pack. Woot. We hit a couple other chromes out of that set (whoever searched the packs did a poor job, to leave just those 8), including a Griffey. No short prints at all, though. Maybe there was a method to the searcher's madness.

We then hit a Meijer, where I bought a half-dozen packs from two open boxes, both of which looked to have been pretty thoroughly rifled.

One chrome (Brandon Moss?), and then...

    Carl Erskine Auto!

    I was pretty pleased.

Recognizing I was going to need a binder, and seizing on any excuse to buy more packs, we went back to the Meijer closer to home. The box my wife had pulled the Pujols bat from was still sitting there, about 8 packs left. On a whim, and because I was frustrated Meijer didn't have a binder big enough for the set, I bought two of the packs. The first was a goose-egg. No SP, no FB, no NAP (has anyone else noticed a glut of Albert Pujols NAPs? I've pulled 7 NAPs, and 3 of them are Pujols!), no T&N, no sparkly. Nothing.

Not a surprise. I mean, my wife pulled a GU from the box last night. There shouldn't be anything exciting left in it.

I actually waited until we got home to open the second pack, which is weird for me. There, I found (and it makes me wish I had a scanner, because it's so nice):

    Ernie Banks blue ink auto!!!!!

The luck was running well enough that I almost considered buying a lottery ticket.

    Almost.

Some time this week I'm going to figure out what I have and what I need. The trading is one of the best parts of Heritage!

Nice pull. Some of my best pulls have come from a box that looks like it has been ran over by a train. The pack searchers just
aren't smart enough. If you are trading the Banks LMK

After opening up six boxes and getting curious about what exactly constitutes a complete "master" base set, last night I put together an excel spreadsheet for this set. With the 220 known "light backs", Variations/SP's, and the regular non-variation SP's, I came up with a total of 714 different cards. In case anyone would like a copy, just send me a pm with your email addy.

This is a cool set, and the first time I've gotten serious about something non-vintage in a long time. Did I really just say that?

Went to random Walmart and they had no heritgae, went to a random Target and they had heritage 12x2 which seems pretty bunk from these boards??? They did have the Bowman heritage boosters boxes and 12x2. I think that means they may carry the topps boosters soon??

You may be right. I've been going into the Target right after it opens almost every day, though, and there's nothing. Have you tried the Walmarts? The closest one to me is in Simi and I don't want to drive up there for a bust. I suppose I could call, but I'm sure I'd only be more frustrated after talking to their 12 year old manager.image

    Hi Ken
My Walmart in San Antonio has zero but the Target does. And, this stuff is distributed to the stores by a separate vendor from somewhere in the country and I doubt if it's 'drop shipped' by Topps. Ask the store manager when/who the stuff will be in or when they restock the cards. These companies are big enough to buy direct but my theory is that they don't want the aggrevation and would rather take less money and have zero liability with respect to losses, ordering etc.

Target has the Excel Sportscard corp. as their distributor and Walmart changed vendors, according to the guy at the Walmart - they used to have the company that also 'repackages' cards and had that big contest where the postal lady won the T206 PSA 8 Wagner years ago. I know there was a big vendor under the Treat Sportscard Distribution name that sold to big companies.

Out of curiosity, what is everyone's opinion as to why the baseball Heritage set is so popular while the football set flopped and hasn't been offered since 2002.

as far as the white backs go, there are only 220 of them so i believe this WAS intentional on topps part. i also think that the print run is less than that of the grey backs.
again, i think it will be a matter of personal preference if one wants to collect the light backs as part of the master set.

in regards to this collectors 2005 heritage season, it was as enjoyable as as any since 2001.

i paid 857.51 for 2 cases and a kerry wood # 399 sp. i have finished the master set minus the ernie banks flashback.

of the 857.51 , i recouped 300.00 bucks (not including ebay & paypal fees). not including 2001, this year yielded the smallest return to date. i attribute this directly to weak resale on the chrome #'d to 1956, pulling only one real one auto, and no box toppers in the hobby case ( i sold a bunch of double headers last year for over 100 bucks).

overall, i was impressed. another fine effort by Topps. the cases i busted had very few damaged cards or rejects. i plan to finsh the run of flashback seat cards and pick up select chrome refractors.

i have some leftover SP's that i will make availible when the want lists start going up. beyond that , it's back to my 1967 & 1972 graded sets.

i think next year promises to be the best year for heritage, the 57 set is one of my all-time favorites and i plan to go all out.

Quick question for everybody. What are you guys going to do with the empty boxes. I just cracked open a case, and I am starting to sort and see what I have, but when I am done, I will have these hobby boxes. Do people collect these? Is there any point to keeping them? Just thought I would ask.

I found three opened boxes (with the majority of packs still there) at Target last night and every last one of the packs had the little nick along the right side....pissed me off to no end. I realize autos likely couldn't be found but I still refused to buy any...still haven't seen any of the sealed booster boxes...

I live in southern indiana and walmart finally has heritage as of 2/28/05. No booster just opened box. One pack missing of course. I bought four packs just for fun and the ratio seems to be about the same as the two hobby boxes i've bought. One New Age performer, one chrome card, two short prints. Three packs had no white backs, one had six. I'm confused as to the importance of these different colored backs. Just thought I'd pass along what i'd found.

Bought 2 booster boxes at TRU in College Station yesterday. Caught the vendor right as he was stocking them. Wish I could have gotten more, but I will go back later on. hopefully they'll be there.

Highend - I pulled the Banks flashback. PM me if you want to trade.

<< <i>Quick question for everybody. What are you guys going to do with the empty boxes. I just cracked open a case, and I am starting to sort and see what I have, but when I am done, I will have these hobby boxes. Do people collect these? Is there any point to keeping them? Just thought I would ask.

Good question regarding the empty boxes. So far, I'm using 4 of them - all my 1-99s in one, 100-199s in another, etc. One box went to my daughter so she could store all the gum in it (she's got dreams of making a nickel a stick at school). The other three? Who knows. If anyone has got a 2004 hobby box, I'd love to get my hands on it.
