Seems very odd, the mintmark seems to be off, but it's really hard to tell with that image under that angle of lighting. Looks like there's a PCGS slab around it, and they are definitely on the ball with authenticating those...so if the slab is an untampered genuine slab, I'd assume the coin is genuine.

Now...the question remains of the price. Well, it's either stolen, part of a hand me down collection and the seller doesn't really know its value, or the seller is really counting on the bids bringing it up to value. Who knows..

It does seem a little strange... private auction, very little feedback yet opened account in May 04, no paypal. For the $54, I might take the risk, but if this goes where a 65RD should go, not a chance.

Russ, why is the trade dollar suspicious? Just asking. I looks okay. I emailed the seller about its authenticity.

For the same reason the Lincoln is. Private auction, and the only acceptable payment option is wire transfer.

Look at the photos of both auctions.
If the seller took those photos, he used 2 different cameras. That leads me to believe that these are not his coins or photos!

the 's' mint mark on the 1909S VDB is in the correct spot, coin looks original, start bid $54 (I start my stuff at .99.......Then we have to look at his low feedback and the low feedbacks of the buyers, method of payment....etc...etc...etc....=poison ivy IMO............Rick

The Trade Dollar appears to have writing on the obverse from the 4 o'clock to 10 o'clock position.

Looking at past auctions and current auctions, there is no consistency among the photos. One is a close-up of both obv & rev and none of the slab, one is of the entire slab obv but no rev, one is at an off angle but others are straight on shots, background colors are different among the auctions. . .

One thing I've learned about photography and eBay auction photos in particular and that everyone has a certain style that is the same among all of their photos (i.e. you find something that works and stick with it). This person's photos have no single style which lends evidence to the fact that they are borrowed photos.

Excellent points about the photography, jdsinva.

I would add that the raw 1909 Indian $10 from a previous auction looks bad, real bad, as in a word that starts with "f" and ends with "y." And I don't mean "funky." image

Doesn't that mean they came from Russia?

The auction photos appear to be hosted on a Russian website.

Did anyone else notice that, and don't you think that's a bit odd for an eBay auction?

Wow, I just noticed that also. Good detective work there sherlock!
