    some dont like political siglines.
some dont like the girlie pic siglines
some dont like religous or animated siglines
some dont like the banner ads

    some love them.

This is a free service and we're damn lucky to have it. Like it or not, people are free to put in there what they want.

Those that I dont like, I dont pay attention to them. That includes their threads AND siglines.

While we're at it, do away with the animated gifs, the girly pics, the Biblical quotes, the anti-Biblical quotes, the pithy sayings, the advertising images, the eBay links, or anything else that somebody might find annoying or offensive.

What really bothers me are the whining threads. What does this have to do with coins ?

I find that the liberal Democrats spent the most time complaining about political commentary. Their idea of maintaining domestic political tranquility is to ban discussions of the issues by those who do not agree with their positions.

I heard on the radio today that a group of Democrats want the FCC to investigate Fox News because they say that it has a bias toward conservative groups and positions. What a crock! One need only look at ABC, NBC and CBS evening news programs to know that those presentations have a strong tilt toward Democratic Party and for this election season, the Kerry/Edwards ticket. I know because I watched ABC regularly during the 2000 race and then switched to CBS after 9/11. If we can’t have balance, the least we can ask for is a presentation of both sides.

My advice to those who want to censor or otherwise control the content of these boards is to ignore what you don’t like. I hate censorship because as an adult I think that I have right view all sides and make up my own mind. I also hate censorship because who can say where it should end?

I don’t think I can ever remember an election during my adult life where both sides seemed to hate each other as much as this one. Perhaps the 1972 election between Nixon and McGovern comes the closest. Anti-war feels were very high then, and Nixon was strongly disliked by those who really disagreed with him.

Historically things were worse during the 1860 election, which ended with the start of the Civil War. We’re that far gone yet, but passions are high this time around; and I don’t think that putting a lid on them is going to relieve the pressure or make things any better. People need to let off steam some place, and if some it gets let off here, I don’t see a problem.

I think I am much more sensitive to political banners than usual these days. It used to be, it would not make one bit of difference to me who other people wanted to support. These days, I feel remorse when I see how poisoned the media has made the general public. It seems that any discussion quickly breaks down into personal attacks either of the person voicing their opinion or the candidate themselves.

I can't wait for this election to be over.

Bill: I agree with your above quote.

In reply to your 2nd quote (below), I personally feel that there is a time and place for everything. I also don't like censorship, however if we all voluntarily try to raise the level of our interaction -- that's not censorship...

<< My advice to those who want to censor or otherwise control the content of these boards is to ignore what you don’t like. I hate censorship because as an adult I think that I have right view all sides and make up my own mind. I also hate censorship because who can say where it should end? >>

In my opinion, these boards have become very testy and contentious lately. That's OK if the majority of forum members are satisfied with this, and if it's what they visit here to do (argue endlessly and senselessly).

However, I would like to see us raise the bar for intelligent discussion of NUMISMATICS between cyber-friends. My personal opinion is that politics shoul dbe kept to the Open "Flame Thrower" Forum.

The upcoming elections are vaery vituperative and are strongly polarizing out country. I, for one, would like to be able to raise the level of our discussion above that daily noise, and talk about coins, look at pretty pictures of coins, and swap & sell them on the BS&T Board.

Just my humble opinion... Thanks for reading!!

When I want to argue politics, I go to the open forum...I am in agreement with those who want to remove political statements from the rest of the forums.

These forums were set up, I imagine, to allow those interested in numismatics and other collectibles to discuss their hobbies. As gentlemen (and gentlewomen I might add), we should respect each other enough to leave political affiliations, religion, and other touchy subjects off of the forums dealing with collecting. If this means control or abolition of all signiture lines by the moderators, so be it.

I am cool (meaning ok) with any political signature lines as long as they do not flash in front of me! No pun intended!

Now the fact that I am Republican and disagree with enough of Bush's policy issues to brand me as critical enough does not make me a pariah within my own party. On the other hand, I always welcome criticism from the opposing party as long as it does not get personal. We learn from each other's criticism as long as we don't go overboard. Criticism should always be constructive.

Keep in mind that the best way to argue politics is to walk with your buddies and argue your positions. What a great cardiovascular excercise!

Over here should restrict ourselves to the MckinleyTeddy Roosevelt race against that horrible Democrat team of William Jennings Bryan/Adlai Stevenson I!!! imageimage

At least we could argue gold versus silver standard here!!!!!!imageimageimageimage

I'm all for political sig lines as long as they are anti Kerry.

    Oreville:

Nice looking juggates from 1900... the 16/1 silver/gold issue was from 1896. BTW, Bryan was the youngest Presidential Candidate ever nominated by either the Democrats or the Republicans... he was 36 in 1896.

coinkat: The 16/1 was still an issue in 1900. I have a metallic turnkey device for the 1900 campaign that refers to Bryan as "Bryanarchy" with a stooped and defeated eagle when the silver standard was selected and a proud eagle when the gold standard was selected.

In fact, under Teddy Rosevelt (TR) in 1904 silver dollars saw their last issuance (until 1921).

The fact that anyone is actually claiming there's a difference in right wing socialism and left wing socialism is laughable.

Especially on an alleged numismatic forum.

http://www.lp.org Take the worlds smallest political quiz on the right side of the page. See where you really stand and then try to make any arguments "for" either democrat or republican parties.

For the folks whining about not having a coin icon, let me remind you that CU has several sports forums on this site too. Anyway this announcement was endorsed by George Bush.

I took the quiz: my results are just what I thought it had to be: "Cent"rist

Your Personal issues Score is 60%.
Your Economic issues Score is 60%.

    Centrist

(Please note: Scores falling on the Centrist border are counted as Centrist.)

3,071,011 people have taken the Quiz so far. (Results are renewed after each submission )

    Libertarian 34.88 %
    Left-liberal 18.99 %
    Centrist 30.07 %
    Right-Conservative 7.39 %
    Statist 8.67 %

I'm suprized how few people scored as conservative, possibly due to resistance to even go to a libertarian web site.

There's no surprise in that. Many Conservatives score Libertarian on that test.

Conservatives and Libertarians are 1st cousins. Although I consider myself a Constitutional Conservative (Classical Liberal), I feel quite comfortable with the Libertarian point of view. Collectivism of any kind is the enemy of all defenders of individual liberty.
