World Series Winners
Here are the winners in Round Four of the PCGS World Series of Grading.
Professional Division...
Jesse Lipka 80.5
Matt Kleinstauber 79
Collector Division
Bruce Morelan 70
JC Wang 65
Note that Bruce Morelan (aka Trade Dollar Nut)'s score was the highest ever by a collector...and there wasn't even a single Trade dollar or Liberty Seated dollar in the test. Congratulations Bruce!
Complete results and a list of all the qualifiers for the ANA World Series finals will be posted on the PCGS website tonight.
Hope everyone had fun.

Congrats to the TDN and all of the winners. Is Jesse Lipka a board member?

Will the finals be any type of spectator sport? I was imagining having all the finalists lined up at a table, having them all grade one coin at a time and revealing the grade after each coin. No pressure in that environment!
New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

Perhaps next year I'll have to switch to the dealer division - after I take over the Coin Buyer position for Legend... uhmmm ... no Laura... put that down.... I was just kidding... really!
Can you pre-screen my next PCGS submission for me?
Way to go!!!

I had PF64RB written down for that darn 1872 cent, but I set it aside because it looked funky. I finally crossed it out and wrote AT. All the body bag horror stories on the board got me!
How come nobody told me that a slanted mintmark is a diagnostic of a real 09-SVDB?
This grading contest was fun, I really enjoyed it.
Its easy to get stung on those bodybags, but I'm glad I nailed two of the tougher coins, the 1909-S VDB, and the 1854 Half Dime...wasn't that coin funky?
Did anyone else from the boards enter?

Jesse Lipka is a full time paper money dealer and owner of the number one currency grading service, CGA. He was the best all around grader I ever met. When he was dealing coins full time, he was THE force in the auction room. I will be forever greatful for the knowledge he bestowed on me concerning the finer points of grading. It is incredible that he still has the ability to score so high when he rarely gets a chance to see many coins any more.
If it weren't for those pesky 2-1/2 Indians...

Ditto the congrats - i think i may have just squeaked in, i'm guessing that my handwriting was so bad that they are calling me keith, but the last name is correct, so i'm thinking i wild carded in with you Seth.
either way, it's obvious that going back to the advanced grading and problem coins at the ana this summer is warranted!

I'm sure TDN knows that I like him, and knows that I am saying this for his own good. Y'all need to stop giving him an even bigger head than the one he literally has now. Truth be told, his head got so big from the last round accolades that he barely was able to make it down to LB. He had to charter his own jet with an extra-wide door!
Just so we're all clear, my next comment about TDN is not a pat on the back. Anyone who knows him well knows that he is a sharp person in mind with a very good eye for detail. In many ways, I am not surprised by his strong score. I am, however, surprised that I hadn't heard this directly from him.
Congratulations, TDN + JC, on your excellent scores! (No smiley here!)

Nope. He doesn't buy and sell coins professionally.

I'd like to point out that even tho I scored well, there's no doubt in my mind about a severe lack of depth in my grading ability [yes, especially Indian gold!]. IMO, there's a huge difference in the ability and experience needed to get those 10 or 20 extra points that the dealers rack up over the collectors. It's like an exponential curve - those last few points require huge jumps in knowledge.
But, damn, that was fun!
