Just got this one today. I'm pretty sure what the grade is, and it is nowhere near what is on the holder. Your opinion?

They didn't give it AU58 did they? I'd like it as a 65 but it looks a little weak, I'm going 64.

MS63 Obverse chatter around cheek and chin. Nice reverse--is that a die crack from second L in Dollar to rim? A very attractive Morgan with my favorite kind of light gold peripheral toning.

The hair and cap are real soft. Kind of looks au. The rev. is better. I say ms/63.

I'd say 64. I also like this kind of toning, I used to have a Binion with the same look.

Whoever graded this at the early PCI was high. It is in an old PCI photoslab holder as a MS60! In my opinion, it is a cut and dry 64, there is some chatter near stars L3-4 that I think will keep it out of a 65 holder.

PCI is confusing. They must have a number chart that goes from 60 to 70 posted to the wall. Looks like the guy that threw this dart doesn't have a very good arm.

I think you are right. I have found some of these early photoslabs that were horribly overgraded, the last one a 91 that was graded as a 64 when it was clearly a 58 slider. You never know.

You have it in hand, so I can't argue with you, but from the pic, it looks like it has enoug distracting tics spread over the whole obverse; it also APPEARS to display strike weakness, particularly in the hair on the top of the head.

I would have called it a 63 max, and would be a little perturbed that it was mishandled.

When I look at the disturbances (tics) on the forehead, nose, behind the lips (all primary focal area), the hair around the ear (above/behind/below), the Phrygian cap and the left obverse field, I can imagine one talking themself into a grade of MS60 - it may be harsh but I can envision it, particularly if one were evaluating several true choice and above coins at the same time - OR - it that person hadn't encountered many true MS60 Morgans.

I meant to add: it could all be my monitor, but, that's what I see.

Wow, that coin looks EXACTLY like a coin I had just last week, unbelievable!!!

I'm hoping for a Morgan dollar at least as nice at that one
