This is the discovery coin for BF-3, I own it, but I can't take credit for identifying it properly (I though it was a BF-2).
This is still the only known 1875 BF-3.
I've searched all available archives and have been scouring shows and the interwebs for years trying to find another.
I'm sure that the authors and a few others have been too.
A few years in, so far. This is the only one, so it stays in it's plastic.

That is some coin to own. Congrats. Don't blame you, it would stay in the same ANACCS SWH, also. Thanks for sharing. Absolutely, a great double dime collection.

I do not currently own a decent 20c piece. I have a holed example in my cork board collection, which is a basic 19th century type set. No pics of that.

This was the last unholed example I've had. Modest grade, but quite appealing. And a Philly.

Come to think of it, I've never owned a high grade 20c piece. My past best might've been a VF, if that.

One day I'd like a proof.

Hmm, I’m not seeing that. It looks like $5,500 in late 2018, and $4,750 today. A drop, but nowhere near a halving. https://www.pcgs.com/pricehistory#/?=5299-65 —this issue was by far the toughest for me to find for my set (I also ended up with a 65 CAC).

Nice pickup. I’m starting to wonder if the BF-4 die marriage is more common than the Brunner and Frost text indicates. All three of the 1876 examples I own, including a proof, are BF-4. Even if the occurrence was 10% of coins, that’d be a 1 in 1000 chance that all of my examples are BF-4.

Some additional information on Adam C. Eckfeldt, who apparently never did work for the Philadelphia Mint. His brother Jacob Eckfeldt carried on the family line at the Mint. Both were related by marriage to W.E. Dubois, who did work for the Mint, and who may have given the coin to Adam C. as a courtesy.

Purchased this coin in August 2006 from Doug Winter. It was the first coin sold in the Eliasberg part two sale and sold for 63 or better money. Coin looks much better than my terrible photo.
