Heres a better deal at $192 and nice comparison to ANACS test piece. I see different finish on ANACS.

The production blog page doesn't say anything about different finishes. Looks like a lighting effect to me.

Ending up winning my 1st PCGS 1964D PEACE Dollar, in gold shield MS69.

A bucket list Carr Art archive "$1" for me, due in 48 hours.

I know everyone else here likely has one or several PCGS Gold Shield Peace "$" Carrs & I am late to the Party.

Where's the micro brew 5 gallon Cornelius keg ?
    Something IPA on tap ?

Cheers to that Win! I was watching that auction and was trying to figure out the Die Pair. I came to the conclusion that it was a Die Pair 9?

Nine would be awesome as 9 is not in the reference book.

I did not look deeply at offer images as I just wanted a GS PCGS Peace "Fantasy" in lofty 69.

    Thank You Very Much !

Hope it arrives as imaged, do not usually do touchdown dance before endzone completion.

    Congrats on the win!
I was watching it at 210, refreshed, and saw it climbing to the 400s. The underbidder had it at that level but you beat him out and I decided not to bid either (my dreams of getting it under 300 were dashed :D ).

Generally, right now, PCGS does not grade DC pieces.

The only exception I recall is the 1964-D peace dollar overstrike. And that's because it's in a reference book (I don't recall the book's name).

And if I remember correctly, not all 1964-D peace dollar overstrikes are eligible. Only a specific early die pair?

I cannot compete with being complete as it's been decades since I plugged holes in my 1c Blue Whitmans.
I fled collecting dates when sold everything to fund error coin purchases in 1978. Local dealer was sad to buy everything back plus sourced elsewhere, but he started my exodus by selling me an awesome 1976D 50% off Center Dime for $5. Errors were a target rich environment once I got catalogues from Lonesome John, Fred Weinberg, Natalie Halpern, Len Roosmalen and later others...

Acquiring Carr & Landis items are my guilty pleasure.
Really I am a strong hands error coin collector, going on 50 years I've kept 99% & regret the 1% I foolishly sold.

    1) @Mr Lindy 's PCGS MS69 Peace dollar token is clearly a Die Pair 9 (MM placement, ghost D to the south of the primary MM, and only three rays below ONE). Produced in 2020.
    .
    2) Dan's items must appear in Krause Unusuals listed in the US Section, from the reference "Unusual World Coins, 6th Edition" by Krause Publications, to be accepted for submission by PCGS. https://www.pcgs.com/tokensandmedals
    .
    3) The 6th edition (last publication) of Krause's "Unusual World Coins" came out in 2011. IOW, Die Pair 9 was not inexistence at the time of the publication. Only Die Pair 5 (produced in Fall 2010), Die Pair 6 (produced later 2010 through January 2011) (or earlier die pairs) would have been in existence at the time of publication. Given that Die Pairs 1-4 were generally unsuccessful, the book was likely referring to Die Pairs 5 and 6. The image in the book is of a Die Pair 6 (MM placement, 4 rays below ONE). Note: All of Dan's 1964-D Peace Dollar token's prior to Die Pair 8 had four rays below ONE, and only in 2020 (Die Pairs 8 and 9) did the reverse have three rays below ONE. http://www.moonlightmint.com/blog_1.htm
    .
    4) Here's a good 2021 thread regarding the first PCGS-graded Dan Carr Peace Dollar tokens: https://forums.collectors.com/discussion/1057239/my-daniel-carr-1964-d-peace-dollars-have-been-graded-by-pcgs The three coins in the submission were two Die Pair 5 and one Die Pair 6. The MS69 is a Die Pair 5, MS67 is a Die Pair 6, and the MS68 a Die Pair 5.

    .
I might add here that from my experience with Ikes, in particular 71S FS-106, 71S FS-501, and 71S FS-401, adhering to source-book photos and descriptions appears not to be rigorously enforced.

I'd guess most Carr Art is held by Strong Hands enthusiasts.

I do not always buy what I should factory direct, so I have to wander about in the aftermarket.

Yes I am afraid that there are pieces that if I sold the chances of getting them back would be very low. Since I bought the Fugio I have not seen another go up for sale, and those were recently struck.

Even with something like these small ingots, if I sold them I might not get a chance to buy back.

Someone wants to find this Lincoln steel cent, and has been waiting months.

Even a small set of St. Gaudens isn't easy now.

The Trade dollars were a big price to begin with.

I waited months myself to finally get these two to add in.

These are some of my duplicates, I bought too many. What a good problem to have though.

    Oh Poo !

This fed ex delivery is SERIOUS !
Proof of me legally being me is required for hand off of Peace entombed in GS PCGS 69 tomorrow:

    16-Jun-2026
"This is FedEx, calling with your delivery information. Your package is scheduled to be delivered on Wednesday, June 17th by 8 p.m. Delivery requires signature from an adult 21 years or older. They'll need to show a government-issued ID to receive the shipment.

    Also

I recall Chief @Bullsitter PCGS slabbed a Sand Blast Matte 1964D PEACE. I wonder how that one shows up on their data ? I am not a fan of sand blast after strike treatment so it went else where. But now I regret passing on it.

This Matte finish was one of two submitted 64D Peace that went missing for a couple months or so. I cannot find Chief's thread here, maybe two years ago ?

    Update:

"1964~D" PEACE "$1" in PCGS Gold Shield MS69 "Daniel Carr Fantasy" arrived & I did not get my id checked by Fed Ex Dude. Happy I got my bucket list goodie ! Great to see The Daniel Carr name featured prominently, not in micro text on reverse.

The 1964D Peace was first Carr Art items I acquired in 2012 ish after they were available factory direct thus sold out. Fleabay was my sole source, from people cashing out of their $85 purchases. Off top of my head I would guess I own 35 of the 1964D from various die pairs and more Peace Bucks from other date mintages. I think I have every Moonlight Mint offer including 1922 Obverse Misaligned Die Design which is my only "commissioned distributor" Peace

    .
Here is the current PCGS pop report on Dan's 1964-D Peace Dollar tokens:

    .
For the MS, there are three trueviews provided - all MS69. Of those, two are Die Pair 5, and one is Die Pair 9.
For the MS PL, there are three trueviews provided - MS69PL, MS68PL, and MS67PL. All are Die Pair 6, as that is the only Die Pair from which Dan produced a "proof like" finish.

There is also the PR Matte. There are 3 graded, 1 PR68 and 2 PR69. Also Die Pair 6.
    This variety is PCGS# 892683

I likely sourced half of my Carr Art from ebay.
I appreciate everyone who chose to rehome.
It's been rare when I got items below launch price.
Assuming most Carr collectors have no desire to sell at issue means you have to pay up for whatever you need/want.

Sometimes pawn shops end up with Moonlight stuff that they auction on fleabay . Their outlay is lower so when they are ebay sellers you can get items under launch $ as they have lower overhead. They get it via an unpaid loan due and just want to make money.

  • zonnkzonnk Posts: 21 ✭✭✭

Well i get most of my ase overstrike coins on ebay because they never are on moonlight mint because they are ordered by an independent dealer. AverageI about 125 for a graded coin. So they don't have a base price listed from moonlight mint.so I think that's a pretty good deal. Always adding more!

Someone mentioned thy wanted a roman numerals 1921 PEACE. One just popped up on fleabay:

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/267706234501

Back in that day these were one per customer, & I got mine direct. Then added a 2nd one off the bay as I was excited to own two.

    Happy Shopping !

I almost bit, thinking any price, until I saw the price. Someone else will want it much worse than I. Throw on taxes and fees that's approaching $750. Someday. I think I will just buy my $90 coin when Mr. Carr posts some new ones. Hopefully in July.

Great question, I don't buy often enough to know about fees on ebay. I usually purchase from auction houses and find fees keep ballooning the actual purchase price. Taxes, shipping, auction fee, and every auction house has their own pricing. But that's on me. Maybe ebay is a cheaper way to go?

  • Mr Lindy Mr Lindy Posts: 1,682 ✭✭✭✭✭

Sellers pay success fees when offers sell on ebay. As listing items is free on eBay there's a lot of overpriced & way overpriced stuff. Some States have reduced tax on coins and sometimes eBay still hits me with normal sales tax which I just eat. It makes me even more cautious when bidding. I've paid 2.5x more tax 3 times on coins this year thus additional $130.

There are no buyer's fees (what you call "auction fees") on ebay.

You pay the winning bid or buy-it-now price, shipping (unless "free shipping" is offered by the seller), and your state's sales tax.
