What do you mean holds a special spot? A special spot in your heart?
Yes
One that I’ve always wanted and dreamt of ever since I was a kid.

So many things were in play right before and right after this coin came to me, it will always hold a special place. And as a coin I could only dream of for years, the fact I have the privilege isn't lost on me.

This was my 1st Trade $ I bought way back on Aug. 31, 2009, for a great price. The photo makes the coin look darker than in hand.
I have more valuable coins, and rarer coins (some are both, even!). I have coins that were much harder to find. But both of these were unobtanium when I started collecting as a kid; I never dreamed I would own either.

and this one I found in change

My wife got me a Mercury dime for my registry set a MS63FB
The other was a $10.00 gold coin like XF low Au. My grandfather gave it to me when I was about 15 years old. I believe the last time I saw him was early 1967. I left for the military in June of 1967. He passed in 1968 and being overseas at that time and where I was, I could not get home. I will always remember him.

I can completely relate to your 1909-S VDB and 1955 DD pennies. When I was young these are the two pennies I hoped to find when I went through the change from my paper route.
I love interesting stories about a specific coin or the collecting of a specific coin. For me, the coin I have that fills this bill is a 1908 Sant-Gaudens. It is the first gold coin I ever purchased. Val and I went to a coin show specifically searching for a Saint I could afford. We narrowed it down to three possibilities and settled on the one shown (not the best photo). Although not a collector, this search turned Val into a real sleuth for all the succeeding shows we have gone to. I love her enthusiasm now trying to find any of the last seven Type 1 and 2 G$1 coins I need for my current set.
My avatar coin was an anniversary present from my wife a few years ago. It completed my Proof Franklins set and is super nice for a 65.
I've posted this on here many times and everyone might be tired of seeing it but this one just checks all of the boxes for me.

If/when I upgrade this date/mm I will most likely keep this in my collection as well.
For years I wanted a three cent nickel, couldn’t find one that worked until this one came along…
The moment I saw it, raw in a book, I knew this was THE coin!

My great-grandfather was a pastor. He found this coin in the late 1920's after giving a service on a WW1 soldier's cemetery. Since then it got passed on from generation to generation as a lucky pocket piece.
I for one NEVER get tired of seeing someone's coin again and again. It's not like we can pull it out and enjoy viewing it whenever we want to like the owner can. @LeeBone , I hope to see your 93-S again in the future.

I paid up to win this coin in a Heritage auction, but haven’t regretted it for a second since I first got it in hand. One of my favorite coins to study .

My father-in-law got this coin when he was in the Merchant Marines on a Liberty Ship during WW2.
This is a Morgan I bought raw last year for $85 alongside my 1907 IHC from an antique mall when my family and I went on a trip to Atlantic City to do a 5K Monopoly-inspired run.
The dealer had labeled it as XF and it had a variety that was unbeknownst to me at the time. I bought the coin with fresh knowledge about this variety and a small memento of the trip! The coin sure looked better than XF to me, so I sent it to PCGS this January and sure enough, it came back MS62!

An XF Columbian 50c. Got it from my grandfather mid 60’s. Only coin I’ve owned that long.
@Goob good snag!
I think you got lucky. That looks like a long scratch on the obverse cameo.

My key dates, error coins, varieties, and a few #1 registry sets are special. I wouldn't be able to sell the avatar coin, it's the best looking image of her.

Thank you!! I almost didn't get this coin since there was a common date in a higher grade (maybe 63 or 64) that caught my eye but it seems I made the right call.
(if that's what you were going at)
It seems to not be a deep scuff or anything. Trust me, you're not the first to think that!

My 1919 Walkers, especially, the Denver coin. That coin is a freak of nature. It is my Grandpa’s birth year, so I can’t help but wonder, if he was watching over me and played a part in my ability to obtain it.

Here's the Large Cent that I "stretched for" during the auction... and won! I had been the #2 bidder for several auctions of the same seller's material and was "determined"... lol! It turned out to be the most I had ever paid for a Large Cent at the time... 2022-ish... and I had "strong VF-money" into it. I was delighted with coin-in-hand and thought it was easily XF if not AU, so... I sent her off to our hosts 2 years later and she came back AU58... much to my surprize!

Would love to see a pic.
It would be this one. It’s only a 65 but the beauty of the toning makes this coin stands out more than any coin in my large collection.
I like this quartet of 1956 (my birth year) Proof Franklins (two Type 1's and two Type 2's; all of them made by me through raw submissions):
PF66CAM Type 1

PF68+CAM Type 2

PF67 Type 1

PF67 Type 2

I’ve posted it several times, in the past, so I don’t wish to be redundant and repetitive. But it can be seen, along with all of my Walkers, simply by clicking on the link to my registry set in my signature line. 😊

Nice Vintage. I too was born that year. Good Franklins with Full Bell Lines. Lots of varieties I see. Great collection!

CBHD's were the first series of coin (and truth be told the only) I fell head over heals in love with. Today I currently own one. This is it. It's the LM plate coin for the die marriage. It is fantastic in every way. Plus, I know in my heart that I only own it because my two mentors in CBHD's allowed me to win it in auction as a gesture of affection which makes it even more special to me ( @MrHalfDime , @Barndog ). In a perfect world I will never sell it,

I bought this raw, slabbed it as a PCGS AU50, sold it to my lifelong friend who cracked it and put it in his Dansco 7070. When he unexpectedly passed away I reacquired it from his wife and had it re-slabbed (PCGS XF45, accurate grade). Then had it green beaned. I may relinquish this to one of his sons one day if they have an interest. If not, I will keep it as long as I breathe.

I started this hobby many lifetimes ago in bullion and thinking it was insane to pay more than melt value for any coin. This coin is single-handedly responsible for sparking my fascination with numismatics. Several years ago I was lucky enough to acquire this fantastic example. It is today, and will be forever, the Crown of my collection (pun intended). If I ever am forced to sell this it will indeed be a sad day for me.
