Attending my first CSNS this weekend & I can see first hand why so many tout this one - it’s well attended in a nice venue + loaded with quality coins! I’ve added a few & will share them here over the next few weeks.
Red Eye Saturday is @ Starbucks. The barista shared a tidbit - a Red Eye is a coffee with a single espresso shot; with two it’s a “Black Eye”. A triple is either green or purple - she wasn’t sure about that. Who knew though?
Today’s coin is one I neglected to post here before:
I’ve said previously how much I like the Classic Head types, but this coin is extra special. It’s the first year of issue from the Charlotte mint & is very scarce in the AU58 grade, especially CAC approved.
Although the 1838-C’s are characterized by surface roughness, this example is better than most in that regard. The striking detail is actually good for the date. The coin has nice, lustrous orange gold color & what I feel is excellent eye appeal.
Good morning Saturday crew. I'm with @Inspired70 ... hot, black and rich coffee tastes extra good this morning ... and the weather has been grand here on the Coast. Was out on the beach last night for the sunset into the ocean, and up early this morning watching the rise over the bay.

I looked back at my post last week, when I was down in CA, and realized what terrible quality the final image was ... the one's that showed the coins (of course)! I didn't realize how bad the tablet was for coin images. But I think the reel box made up for it!
Anyway, here's six of those ten coins again this week ... as I was enjoying the box one last time before it went back to the SDB today.

The first image is of the two OGH 1809's. Amazingly, these are same Die Marraige (but different Die States) ... the AU50 is the rarer 106.1 (r.4) and the AU53 is the more common 106.2 (r.2)

Next up is probably the finest 27-116 out there (all things considered) and an intoxicating 06-119 that had some of the most hideous auction images ever (the advantage of lot viewing).

Finally, the two coins that probably stop the most hearts, my 11-103 and 21-101a. My friend Lance @lkeigwin didn't want to let the 1821 leave his house when I visited him during my travels.
And for those interested ... yes, he looks really good and seems to be adapting to his new reality very well, all things considered. He was in pretty good spirits too, and we had a great evening chatting, having pizza and bourbon, and doing some show and tell.

As always, nice coins, everyone! I don’t have much to show off this morning. But I did recently pick up an unattributed FS-110 1936-S dime. It’s the controversial possible-overdate vs it’s-just-die-gouges variety.

Today I’m posting the first one of 3 coins I picked up @ CSNS last week. As many have said, it was an absolutely fabulous show!
I own only one other CBD & that’s a large dentils example. Today’s coin is the Type 2 (small dentils). It’s the JR-6 variety with a normal date. VERY colorful with tones of aqua, rose, olive & a smattering of others! There is a strike thru on the reverse that’s likely from a wire. It runs from the eagle’s head & ends just to the right of it. Very cool! Stars are complete with full radials. Overall detail is strong, with just a few neck area hairlines keeping it from a GEM grade.
GM everyone and happy Saturday. Already played tennis and had 2 cups of coffee. I attended CSNS show and it was a real winner. Dealer reported that they all had one of the best shows ever. Lots a great coins available but it was still tough buying. I did manage to upgrade my Capped Bust dime registry set and will show another time when i can get good pic of the coin. One thing that made the show great was a Newman Society talk by Paul Hollis - the newly elected US Mint Director. Her talked about coins and our 250 birthday. Just fantastic. I got a chance to locate a 2026 dime and its gorgeous. Its not very often that I like modern coins but the Mint did a great job. Paul handed out his business card and the 2026 dime was included in the business

A day late (and at least 50c short) ... but I caught a few yesterday before I got out on the water, and then, by the time I got home last night I was in the fall down mode.

I spent the better part of the week exploring, kayaking and fishing in and around Chelan, WA ... and had a wonderful time. Did one alpine lake that is really tough to get to, to a kayak in to (and really tough to get it out of!!) but caught at least 15 or 16 there (all hook and release). And Friday night I was out in the Northern part of Lake Chelan and caught some fantastic Cutthroat and a chrome bright Kokanee.
This one goes back a ways, and I don't show it often (not sure why, as I certainly appreciate her!). At the time if was the most I had ever spent on an CBH in AU50. Not sorry I paid up to put her in my group. The consummate "hot mess".
