Wow! - page 72 for this thread! is this a record?

Sometimes I marvel not just at the "next page" and the number of posts, but the number of views this thread gets. I know some folks look a few times a week and they all count, but the math is pretty impressive.
When you consider @DCW started this thread just over 4 years ago ... 215 Saturdays ago! ... the fact that it will soon have over 83,000 views is kind of amazing. Yeah, that averages out to 386 views a week!!
Heck, we have averaged more than 16 posts a week!
Ok, yeah, I'm kind of a math nerd. Aren't most of us?
Anyway, as I remember, this thread gained traction right off the bat, so it somehow struck a cord. It's certainly the thread I most look forward to visiting now, week after week (and year after year!).
Thanks for all the coffee and laughs and oooo's and awww's from the all gorgeous displays of coins ...
For me, it’s the best thread of all! The quality & variety of the coins posted, along with the expertise of the contributing members is unmatched anywhere on these boards!

Good enough to buy again & going well with this NO $5 QE:
Last week I posted a NO gold NEWP with some interesting factoids. This one also has what I’m learning is a fascinating history behind the “O” mint gold. Double thanks to Doug Winter for not only the coin but the story behind it!
“DW” estimates there are only 4 1845-O examples graded MS60 or higher, which makes it the rarest of the 14 NO minted QE’s. Further, there are only 6 CAC approved pieces in AU58 with only one higher!
This coin has excellent luster over clean, vibrant surfaces & is strong for the 58 grade. There is limited wear on the obv high spots, with the overall strike rated as excellent! Finally, there is no evidence this coin has ever been “messed” with as it appears to be wholly natural.
Lots of action here this AM - could I be the last one up?

The about uncirculated Elgin example that was one of five tokens used on the 2nd Edition cover was dumped (as expected) for a new & improved group of six tokens on the front of the 3rd Edition. The 4th (last - 2004) Edition continued the string of new covers with another six different tokens & medals.
This Elgin Father Time die was used on at least 15 different Elgin watch or exposition medals. Most of the medals were given with each watch purchased and included the name or serial number of the movement used in that individual watch. Uncirculated examples are uncommon (but not rare) due to the soft white metal used for the medals.
I’ll start things off with some iced cold brew and shiny modern dollars (AI), which coincidentally I spend most often on my morning coffee. Happy Saturday, all.
Beautiful Red Eye Saturday here in the SF Bay Area accompanied by a strong one:
The last two weeks I posted examples of tough NO gold with some interesting history. I’ll wrap it up today with a 3rd one:
This example has been traced to the Fairmont hoard. It has nice original skin + color distinctive to those coins. The assigned AU50 grade is supported by its overall quality, strike & marks. The CAC approval backs this contention.
Doug Winter, in his latest book on NO gold, states the 1855-O Eagle is tied for 3rd rarest among the “No Motto” issues. Further, in AU/MS grades, it’s 3rd rarest. In fact, AU55-58’s are tough to find, with only 2 MS61 grades at present that are higher. Most known are graded VF-XF.
CAC population attests to this coins rarity: 3 AU50, 1 AU55 & 1 AU58. None are higher.
When it comes to “O” mint gold, NO is the big “not so easy”.
Spring is here (or at least it's trying to be), it's time to do some more fishing and break out the kayak.
I took a couple swings recently, and missed on both of them. Unfortunately. I hate sending things back, but they just didn't fit.
So I take solace with one of my favorite AU55's this morning. Great DM, true r.4, which if it wasn't so obvious, I'd ask the other CBH guys to attribute, because I know we all love attributing 1827's so much! j/k
This morning I'm enjoying my mug of insults from Shakespeare and two newly graded dimes. It's surprisingly tough to find branch mint dimes from the 1920s in wholesome AU condition, and these two represent years of searching.
@Shurke Those are gorgeous AU's! And yes, from my experience, amazingly hard to find, especially for both of those dates which are quite scarce in Mint Sate as well. Way to go!!
Original ChAU better date Merc's are almost impossible. EF/AU or Unc, or scrubbed/dipped out sliders, and almost nothing in between.

Whenever I go to shows its getting harder and harder to locate great coins. So here is my new twist to my collecting - Its like playing poker - High/low. Obtaining the lowest and highest graded CAC coin for the variety.
Here is a favorite Capped Bust quarter 1828 25 over 50 variety. Below is the lowest CAC'd in Fair -2 and one of the highest CAC'd grades - I really tried to downgrade my Fair 2 to a Poor 1 but PCGS won't do it. I carried it in my pocket for 3 months but it won't show enough wear to get a Poor-1! Oh well! I guess PCGS is on to me......
A few us were on text this morning, and I guess I had made a comment about one of them possibly being to sane for us sometime about a year ago. I have since changed my mind and realizes he fits just fine, if not even helps fuel the craziness.
