you guys are failing to give Hurts the credit he so handsomely deserves. he had 5 turnovers, not 4. two on the same damn play. first player since 1978 to do so, and that's as far back as the data goes. so theoretically we could go all the way back to the age of dinosaurs to find someone, or something, that topped that fantabulous feat. rumor has it a stegosaurus once threw 3 picks and fumbled 4 times on a flea flicker, but i'm having a hard time corroborating that.

Completely understand the negativity towards Hurts in that game. Especially with Barkley gaining 122 yards, it should have opened up some passing lanes for Hurts with some better reads and accuracy, to have a good game.

Barkley had a 50 yard run which put his number up, he wasn't consistently gashing the D

Hurts had a bad game, it happens

They own that division, Dallas isn't going anywhere and the Redskins and Giants are cooked

Commanders have to be a major disappointment for Washington fans. I thought they would compete this season for the NFC East title, perhaps even win it, but turns out not even close.

The Eagle will back into the playoffs and make an early exit in the playoffs.

If the Eagles manage to lose to Los Vegas in a home game, this season is really over. A playoff appearance won’t matter because one and done will be a given.

    I think you're right.

Tough to see the Eagles losing this game if they've got enough gas left in the tank. In any event, they sure ain't got much.

Check- is a friendly, warning situation, in the game of chess,
where a another team is under immediate threat, forcing their next move.
The Check situation, (**31 vs 0 **win) could be the part, to propel, The Philadelphia Eagles's, no stress, playoff strategy.

    Dominant today

  • stevekstevek Posts: 31,892 ✭✭✭✭✭

Solid, dominant win for the Eagles today. Which is what a playoff contending team should do to a very bad football team.

I'll take the win, even though I'm still not convinced this is a Super Bowl winning team, or even will get there.

At least Barkley seems to be back as a decent/good runner. We shall see if that continues, because if it doesn't, the Eagles basically have little or no chance.

This Eagle’s team is hard to watch if you are a fan. They fumble on the opening kickoff. Then they have a kicker who pulls the ball left three times in row. This is a repeat of end of the 2023 season.

Washington is so bad, Eagles beat them anyway.

Barkley seems to be back, so there is still hope.

Any idea why Eagles went for 2 point conversion up 27-10 with under 6 minutes? Guarantee the over?

I must confess that the wife and I watched a Hallmark movie I bought at an antique store this afternoon instead. It looks like the Eagles woke up in 4th quarter.

This needs to be said and explained
Hurts is in the shotgun position, with "Barkley in motion showing", a dive (hand off) up the middle knowing he only has one direction of travel given to him, within 0.9 seconds.
    Think of this.
Your on the D line you see this formation your defensive reaction time is 0.5 seconds.
Watch any other running back. They don't wait for the ball.
    .
This play could be called, throw Barkley under the bus. He even has to wait for the busses.
Every time this option, play or formation is ran it only chip's away at the best running back Phila. ever saw. Why is his stats down ? Who cares. Fix it !
    .
A running back should reach full speed as the ball transfer is completed. Just a blur to the D line.
Hurt's runs this play to long at 0.8 seconds, making Barkley WAIT, yes WAIT, for the ball transfer.
The O line is not the same as it was last year when this play was accepted as bread and butter, although I'd be the first with their thank you gifts this year.
If Hurts want's the bread, use a spread behind the center.
After all, Barkley's faster and a smarter running back.
Stay with the shotgun, when it's up to two.
My TV's throwing things back at me.

I would agree that Sirianni has used Barkley a bit too much. Especially in circumstances that weren't necessary. And Sirianni has become a bit too predictable in his play calling.

Hall of Fame coaches knew when to squeeze their star players and when to rate them, and/or rest them. Sirianni still has points to learn about this.

  • emeraldATVemeraldATV Posts: 5,249 ✭✭✭✭✭

The play is a QB option from the shotgun position. Hurts is calling the play, thus a QB's option.
Whom ever thinks this formation, with the fullback dive up the middle option works, from in a shotgun position, never played defense. Every time I see this I scream like the Hulk and turn green.
You may have heard one of the announcers say "when Barkley enters the secondary he explodes and it's tough to bring him down". He was taught to explode when entering the line.
HE WHO HESITATE"S IS LOST. Not his fault.
I think Hurts is very uncomfortable with the movement needed when he's behind center.
They started to put Hurts behind center more often in the last two games.
    What happened ?
Sorry if I sound to stern about this one play and its formation, but it's the talk of the town.
There's more indicators but I'm not saying. LOL
    A proud fan.

In my opinion, the Bills coach made the right call going for 2. Just didn't work out.

Credit where credit is due, after three quarters of goose eggs, the Bills didn't quit. They came back in the 4th quarter and almost won it.

That game is on Allen 100%

He should have scored a TD earlier when he pumped faked one too many times and ran it and fell short, he needed to tuck that ball and run rather than be non committed to either option

The 2 point conversion was a horrible pass, the WR was open 100%

Congrats on the W, Philly played tough

The Philly offense played it too close to the vest in the second half. As I said in another thread, it was an example of the late Howard Cosell's "Playing not to loose" theory which often means you do loose.

Philly looked ready for the playoffs in the first half. The second half looked like the end of the 2023 season, awful.

It's been a crazy season, that's for sure. I hear ya, and don't disagree. But this Super Bowl is wide open, and I think the Eagles have as good a chance to win it as any other team. Not saying at all that the Eagles will win it, as it's so tough to repeat.

We'll get in the playoffs and see what happens. I'm looking forward to it.

the Eagles have to be the most maddening team in the NFL

i was watching the Bills game and in the first half they looked like the team that won the super bowl last year

    firing on all cylinders

then, out of nowhere, with that loaded lineup, they generated 17 yards in the 2nd half and escaped by the skin of their teeth

    seventeen

i need the resident Philly fan to explain to me how these things happen

Could be the wear and tear on their bodies of playing a lot of games, especially big games last season, finally catching up to them.

Also could be that Sirianni is not mixing up his play calling well enough in the second half. The opposing teams see what he's doing in the first half, and he just keeps doing the same thing in the second half.

That's my in-depth astute analysis worth approximately 1/100 of one cent. LOL

I lay it to the coaching. The greatest defense can’t survive if they are on the field most of the time. A few first downs in the second half would have kept Buffalo under control in the second half, but it was a predictable, conservative offensive strategy which resulted in one 3 and out after another. The defense was gassed.

Mud ball, pick- up football games, were also called, ruff and tumble.

If you had the ball, and were about to be sacked, the rule was, get rid of the ball before tackled or suffer the mud, the blood and the beer at the bottom of the pile.

I'm just glad everyone went home without the mud and the blood.
One more week of this nonsense then.......?
Will you be ready for some football ?

Eagles fans already know the playoff situation.

Bottom line - Sirianni should rest the starters for the entire game this Sunday. Anything else would be very foolish. I think he will.

  • stevekstevek Posts: 31,892 ✭✭✭✭✭

The line just dropped on the Eagles to -5.5

Tells me, I think, that the locker room is leaking that Sirianni is going to rest the starters.

I'm sitting out the playoffs bets but if I was playing I'd go with the under in the Eagles game. Tough defense but short on offense. But if contain SF could result in a low score game.

You may turn out to be right.

Overall it seems to be a "pick a winner out of a hat" type of Super Bowl.

It's been a crazy season, with a lot of weird finishes, etc, and I'll be surprised if it doesn't continue that way in at least some of these playoff games.

Did you see that Pittsburgh vs Baltimore game's last five minutes ? MUST SEE.
I must have changed both teams logo's (above) entry into the playoffs 8 times while watching and laughing in disbelief.
I got so involved, I started thinking neither team was interested, so I passed that thought on with
the stare, only the interested could convey.

    Just an FYI

I once attended a sales/marketing, two week training seminar in Boulder Colorado, not that far from Denver. It was for a new office machine which turned out to be a hot seller.

Anyway, there were around a dozen attendees, and ya become friendly with some of them, one was a hotel roommate, etc. So Sunday rolls around, no training that day, and we're bored. One guy said he had driven in the mountains of Colorado before, and the views were fantastic. He had a rental car. So there's four of us in the car, I'm in the passenger side back seat. Shortly after starting up this mountain, I soon notice there are no guardrails whatsoever on the side of the road. We keep going up the mountain and still no guardrails. The problem was, and I knew this when I got in the car, the driver was a bit of a loose cannon. Nice guy, everybody liked him, but he's driving up this mountain, again with no guardrails, way faster than he should be. I'm looking out the car window at the side of the road and there's really not that much room between the road, and the car veering off the road to a steep death. I had been in some precarious situations before, and of course it's macho not to complain about it, ya just persevere. But I was getting nervous as the driver began actually speeding up. So I opened my mouth to the driver, and said, "Maybe you should slow down." We had a group that would hang-out after each day's session, have a few drinks, etc, and so I knew him fairly well. He just blurts out, "Steve don't worry about it, I've driven these mountains before", and he's laughing while saying it. There was nothing I could do. So I'm stuck in this dam car, in a cold sweat, which I thought might become my demise.

So I'll give ya just one guess the driver's first name? You got it, Cliff. And so I'm sitting there going up this mountain, thinking I might soon die by going off a cliff with a driver named Cliff.

Well it turned out okay, and I will admit, the views were spectacular. Was it worth it? Hell no it wasn't worth it. LOL

As we know, a pick or two can throw off any line. That's one factor which makes sports betting so tough. That being said, if I'm in at -3.5, I'd always prefer the line to move in my favor.

You may very well be right. We shall see at games end whether or not the 2 point difference in the spread meant anything.

LOL

    Pikes Peak?

Don't recall a specific name. I just got in the car, and Cliff drove to it. The office machine manufacturer was headquartered in Boulder CO, and the drive to the mountain from our hotel wasn't that far from there.
