Michigan was just an example. No one really cares about Alabama either. I don't know about bad news bears, but A&M made some mistakes and SC capitalized on all of them early on. A team that has that in reserve is a bit scary and that's a win they can rally around. They have a bye week before they need to worry about Texas who could be on that bubble.

I know this will sound strange and draw some laughter, but the reason these SEC teams are ranked so high is because all these SEC teams are ranked so high. Most of the comparisons and assessments are predicated on the fact that "they lost but to a team ranked in the Top 10" or something like that. The group, when taken together, strike me as being average right now. I might be proven wrong come January, but right now none of them impress me. The best examples of the over-ranking can be seen with Texas and Tennessee. How many losses does it take for the AP Poll voters and the CFP committee to stop giving them a hope for the playoff?? Outside shot that Tennessee finishes the regular season with 5 losses and Texas with 4, but these voters will still want to keep them in the Top 25. It's ridiculous.
The snarky comment about Charlotte isn't because Georgia is playing them, every team does that. It's because of WHEN Georgia is playing them. You'd have to be stupid or ignorant not to have gotten that, and I know neither of those is true. As for Ohio State vs. Michigan, barring some unforeseen circumstances or major injury(s) I don't expect them to lose this season. But that stuff happens, just look at what happened to your precious 'Tide.

Texas has some good wins, but Missouri and Tennessee should not be ranked. And Texas should'nt be ahead of Michigan.
I don’t follow Missouri but I agree that Tennessee is bad this year.
I think Texas vs Michigan might be an even game.
As long as Texas isn’t in the CFP I don’t care where they end up. I’m on the fence with Michigan but if Underwood is hitting linebackers in the chest like he did against Northwestern perhaps it’s best to save them the embarrassment.

That doesn't really matter imo considering Texas has 3 losses, including a loss to a 3-7 team. I expect the Committee to place Michigan ahead of them at this point.
You don’t think Texas or Alabama belong in the top 25?
I don't believe Texas belongs in the Top 25 but I can't see where you got the notion that I don't think Alabama belongs there. If you look back a page I ranked them 10th. They belong there but I also agree that they are a "bubble team" and are in danger of repeating last season, left out.
My thing with these SEC teams all being ranked(over-ranked in my opinion) is that it clogs up the Top 25 and any path a team might have to get into the Top 12 for the playoffs. We can argue about who we think is good but since everyone in every conference avoids playing each other we never know till Bowl Season. My post about Alabama beat Georgia beat Texas beat Oklahoma beat Alabama was meant to highlight how inconsistent they all are. Chalk that up to when in the season the games are played, where they're played, rivalries, etc., but none of the teams play consistently. Any of those 4, I believe, could beat any of the ranked teams at any point. But, and I think it's a big but, they could also lose to to any of the ranked teams at any point.
The AP voters and the CFP voters view things from two angles: the SEC and the rest of the Conferences. With the SEC they are willing to let a 3-loss team hang around and have a shot. With everyone else a single loss has you hanging around but a 2-loss team is history. The exception to that seems to be Notre Dame, probably because their losses were so early. But the Irish are always granted a degree of deference by everyone.

Best 12 teams when the selections need to be finalized
This isn't necessarily true. By rule there will need to be ACC and another conference Champions included and none of them are really that good. This is why I think the whole format needs to be rethought and expanded. There isn't a logical way to figure out who "the best teams" are to have a playoff, that's old school when it all wen off the AP Pol top teams. A playoff should be a playoff where you earn your way in by how you play during the season. Conference Championships should have value and those teams should be in a playoff. Not some haphazard way of saying this team is better than this team like we currently have.

It's not lost on me that there are rules that the CFP must follow. They need to pick the best 12 teams when the selections are finalized within the structure of the CFP rules. In the same way they can't pick teams outside of NCAAF to play. The CFP can't exist without the conferences so that's why you see this conference deference by the CFP structure. Would you be OK if the B1G had no guarantee that their conference champ was in? Maybe you would.
Sixteen teams is my magic number.
That's what the SEC wants; 16, with the same 5 automatic conference bids. The B1G's plan is a little wild. It hasn't really been discussed here which is probably a good thing.
Would you be OK if the B1G had no guarantee that their conference champ was in? Maybe you would.
I doubt there has been any time in the history of the NCAA football program as we know it that the Big 10 hasn't had one of the Top 10 teams in the Nation. I would have to check, but I doubt it. Understanding that, yes, I'd be OK with no guarantee but I don't envision that sort of format. I envision a format which precludes something like last year when the Big 10 had 4 teams and this year where the voters seem to be pushing for 5 SEC teams. Loading the bracket with one conference just seems unfair to everyone involved and I don't believe the teams included are really the best teams.

A good portion of the SEC actually wants no automatic bids for anyone. They know their teams will be there because of the talent they consistently get and dont want to see a team left out for a G5 team or an Iowa type team from autobids.

It might make you feel good to post that except that it isn't true. The two Conferences are pretty close to being even right now, at least for the past few years. The problem that arises and makes it hard to have an in-season statement like that is that the teams really don't play that often during any regular season. Bowl season and the playoffs end up as the ultimate judge. The last 2-3 seasons haven't shown that the SEC is better than the Big 10 and doesn't support your fantasy statement. Wrong. Every game counts towards the final polls. Funny in the past you never failed to mention the bowl games whenever the sec won. Now all the sudden when they go 1-5 against the BIG TEN last year they dont matter?
i've never had a fav college team, but i think it's finally time i did. for the remainder of this season i'm gonna be an Ole Miss fan. i'm a Lane guy. brash, cocky, arrogant, mucho hubris, tells it like it is.........i dig it. and i love their powder blue unis. have you ever been to Mississippi? there's not much to write home about. that state deserves a chip. but i'm just not sure that they have enough in the arsenal to take out multiple big boys come playoffs time. they strike me as a solid O, suspect D kinda team. then again, they had Georgia by the throat in Athens, so the potential is there. let's do this.

Lanes a great coach but LSU and FL are going after him hard. Its looking like Ole Miss is going to have to do something to keep him him there. Ole Miss and State are both baseball schools at the end of the day and Lane has done an amazing job

Yeah, playing the best teams in the Nation at the end of the season!! It doesn’t get any better than this.
The B1G enforces a format that puts their conference at a bit of a disadvantage by having these conference games late. The B1G teams set themselves up poorly by playing their patsies early, which hurts their SOS and SOR metrics relative to SEC schools by the time the committee starts looking at these numbers for ranking the teams. The SEC builds that SOR and SOS early by playing a tougher conference schedule and then they coast in... usually... with their season solidified.
It's like my dogs. If you ever had Boxers you'll know the rare mix of smart and stupid this breed is. They used to run through screen doors. It was getting old... So we attached a tennis ball to a short rope so they could pull them open. Maybe the B1G should think about doing it smart instead of running through the door each year.
Next year the SEC will also have 9 conference games - same as B1G, but I don't think we're going to see this impact the overall performance of SEC teams. We just have to beat them when we play them and not make excuses.
SEC plays 8 conference games
B1G plays 9 conference games
Next year this changes to 9 & 9. Guess who has 9 and who has 9 if you can!
But that 8 vs. 9 doesn't matter more to me than when the conferences play their bigger games.
The B1G tends to play their harder games late and the SEC tends to play their harder games early. It's not always like this for all teams every year, but this is kind of the reality as to how SEC teams setup their non-conf schedules. And, like as someone who understands that it's better to look good than be good and it's best to be both... why doesn't the B1G just hit the season a bit harder and then coast in. Getting those early wins under your belt to maximize your SOR by the time the committee starts voting.
if you think me saying that the B1G should be a bit smarter to play to the system makes me a SEC fan then I guess we're just worlds apart in how we interpret words.
Next year the SEC will also have 9 conference games - same as B1G, but I don't think we're going to see this impact the overall performance of SEC teams. We just have to beat them when we play them and not make excuses.
Clarify.

I don't think there's a conference-wide method to the scheduling for either the SEC or the Big 10. But looking at the schedule for this season it seems the Big 10 teams tended to schedule the two charity games early as usual and the SEC tended to schedule 1 early and 1 late. Also, while that appears to look like the teams all do it to "pad" their schedule/record my understanding has always been that it's done for revenue sharing purposes to help smaller schools. Everyone does it and smaller school need the cash infusion.

Next year the SEC will also have 9 conference games - same as B1G, but I don't think we're going to see this impact the overall performance of SEC teams. We just have to beat them when we play them and not make excuses.
At Oklahoma? I dont think it happens. I think Missouri is playing with a 3rd string QB.

You are a weird dude.
It explains the bias.

Maywood i think you may be cannibalizing, because i believe bgr lives in the heart of big 10 country

Maywood -
SEC plays 8 conference games
Ahh ok I wasn't aware of that

Clarify.

Not true. A lot of the better BIG TEN matchups are early in the season.
