Maywood - I have to agree with your statement about OSU. That's what a ranked team should do against an unranked. Close them out. Move on. Ideally not lose or squeak by as you said.
Basebal21 - Dude. you're dead right. That is not a significant win. They did what they were supposed to do and it's nothing to get excited about. Maybe you read it wrong is all I can say. Or are you a Russian bot?
A good example for what I'm trying to help you understand is currently taking place at a "Swamp" in Gainesville, Florida where Georgia is trying to avoid an embarrassing defeat. As the supposed 5th ranked team in the Nation they shouldn't be knotted at 17 all to an unranked team. That is what "pretenders" do.

Stockton took a knee on the 1 yard line in the GA game with no one around him to end the game instead of running up the score to a double digit win and risk defensively players getting hurt in a game that was already over.
But I guess Michigan struggling against a terrible Purdue team or Minnesota going to OT against a terrible Michigan State team doesnt matter

It was 17-17 at the start of the 4th quarter. Georgia struggled the entire game.
I dont think anyone here stated that Michigan or Minnesota looks like a playoff team. Michigan got hammered by two teams, and Minnesota has been unranked the entire year so far.
Looking at the upcoming schedules. I think these 4 sec teams will make the playoffs. Other than Ohio State and Indiana, the BIG TEN is harder to predict.
Georgia could have added a touchdown but it was a close game that ended because of a reviewed pass completion which game Georgia the ball back there at the end. That Georgia drive and the run by Bowens to cap it off was clutch. I wouldn’t call it a dominant performance and Lagway was just as wild without Napier. I wonder about that kid.
I watched a panel yesterday post-game where they were discussing the playoff system and giving their best "guesses" about who would be the At-Large teams. One member was sort of adamant about his belief that the added teams are really a waste of time. It's hard not to argue with that perspective. As I have said for some time now, there are only a few really good teams in NCAA football and a whole bunch of ordinary teams.
Looking past the teams to the individual Conferences that thinking holds true. Most of the strength resides in the SEC and Big 10, the other three Power 5 Conferences have proven themselves to be weak and very inconsistent, capable of playing a good game one weak(sic) and losing the next to an un-ranked bottom feeder. I view the potential teams as stated in previous posts and the sacrificial lambs will mostly come from the SEC. I just don't have much confidence in anyone past Alabama right now and even they have been shakey at times. Down the home stretch with everyone coming off that bye week will be interesting.
Ohio State seems to be expanding their playbook and allowing Sayin more opportunities to throw and show his arm strength and skill. He's pretty accurate and tends not to make mistakes. It helps that he has Smith and Tate running the routes but 20/23 is hard for anyone to accomplish. They look fine and the rest of the schedule is easy till they have to travel north to avoid laying an egg.

And reason why they should have expanded to 6-8 teams instead of 12.
@coolstanley said: And reason why they should have expanded to 6-8 teams instead of 12
I actually think the playoff should be 16 teams and that there needs to be a more reasoned way of selecting which teams besides a group of biased Sportswriters voting for them. The pre-BCS way of the top 2 AP Poll teams was flawed as was the next with 4 teams. The current way is also flawed. Each way has been an improvement but the voting bias needs to be completely removed in striving for the best method of determining a true NCAA Champion. My choice of 16 teams is because the math works out with 4 rounds. Nobody should have a week off.
I can easily figure out how to decide who the 10-12 automatic teams should be every year --- the top 2 teams in the Power Five Conferences plus that 6th Conference that currently gets a berth. I don't care how good anyone thinks a team might be, if you can't finish the regular season and play in your Conference Championship game you don't deserve to play for the National Championship. Also, if the few remaining teams like Notre Dame feel snubbed there is an easy solution: join a Conference. As for seeding to decide who plays who, use a lottery system divided for Conference Champions and everyone else. I also think there should be home games, not games where someone like Georgia gets to play in the Peach Bowl.
I would hope every effort could be made to take bias out of any choices. I know it's a fantasy, but it's my fantasy.

Well see on Tuesday when the playoff rankings come out. Those 4 teams are obviously in a good spot and would be in today, but theres going to be a couple fringe ones still looming. The ACC is a mess now with tie breakers other than UVA and may only get 1 team in, and the Big 12 looks like theyll get 2 teams in but Texas Tech and BYU have to play each other and they really need Texas Tech to win that game for that.
ND is one loss away from being out but probably wont happen
I admit I got a little carried away with Pavia mania. The cinderella story is now over. But the Browns are still in play. 3rd round. Paaaaaveeeeaaaaaa!

They should not be top 25. But I could make the same argument that A&M could be #1 as their record is the strongest. It wouldn't make a lot of sense because OSU has taken care of business and they should get a chance to fill out their resume as the national champs. But if they hadn't won the national championship last year I would put A&M 1 and Indiana 2, even though OSU will probably beat Indiana in the B1G championship. And Bama looks like they are #2 in the SEC over Georgia. I like that Indiana is back and I like Cignetti.
@coolstanley said: Tennessee still ranked with 3 losses.
The bias coupled with the myth makes it very hard for an SEC team to get ejected from the Top 25 and some kind of outlandish hope that said team may be considered for the playoff or a premium Bowl Game. You might notice that there isn't another 3-loss team in the Poll, and there shouldn't be.

I think what the AP Poll voters should do is just list all 16-SEC teams from top to bottom in the conference at the top of the Poll because everybody knows they are the best, just look at the grueling schedule they play. The only reason any of them have losses is because they have to play each other. The rest of the conferences can have their own playoff, but the SEC is the best and they will decide who the National Champion is.

Yeah, they're a good example (Tennessee). Their SOS is 18th but their SOR is now 29th. There are not that many teams outside the top 10 now (and a few inside) that you can trust so it doesn't really bother me that it's taking them a while to drift down where they belong.

I don't put much faith in the voters, but by the end of the season they are kind of forced to get it more right now. It's taking them longer than it should to realize that last year means less than it did before the portal.
I dont really see a case where Texas A@m being number one. Their best win is a one point win against ND, their only win over a currently ranked team.
As for Tennessee, their best win is against Mississippi State. Illinois should be ranked ahead of Tennessee. They have wins over ranked USC and a solid Duke team.

Even though the score was close because Texas got outscored 21-0 in the 4th quarter, Vanderbilt looked like a paper tiger today.
Tennessee with 3 losses is out of the playoffs, and Oklahoma will be out with 3 losses when they lose at Bama in two weeks.
