    And it's even slabbed.

Yeah, but it isn't authentic. :/

    Looks like a Chinese knock-off.

Seems like this thread got new legs.

    .

I finally got an 1820 and it happened to be a 20/19 so I thought why not throw it up in the old overdate thread. :)

Since this original thread I also dabbled into the draped bust with one -1805/4.

And here's a Capped Bust half dime, 1836 LM-3, "three over inverted 3" (aka "3/inv3") for my buddy @jesbroken. It's hard to see on a toner like this one... sorry 'bout that.

I like it, especially with the toning.
15 or so years ago, I placed this 36 ½Dime in my 1st 7070. It stayed quite a while til upgraded. I always thought this was an LM-3 but evidently was not. I never liked it and finally one day lost it. Maybe one day I'll discover it in a book, drawer or holder.

@jesbroken, I wrote a JRJ article (July 2023, see page 6 here here) about threes in the Capped Bust half dimes. (Yes, about threes. I was in my infatuation phase with the series. heheh). What you have there is 1836 LM-5, and there IS an interesting thing about the digit 3 in that obverse... but it's not a 3/inv3.

Post mint damage. To match your theory it would have to be a 4 errors, A 1944 die hubbed over a 1943 Die that was also a repurposed 1942 die and then had the 1 in 10,000,000 chance to get a left over steel planchet get through into production and after all that the error die was identified and all of the produced examples were recalled except yours and the sole survivor went into circulation and was never identified as a $50k+ error until it hit your hands.

Or coin was lightly tooled/ scratched and or the steel coating wore away and then the zinc started corrode

Some mechanical doubling and damage. You can see the metal pushed up from the impact/scratch.
