I hope the ANA committee members learn that it's very important that the show location can be reached by direct flights rather than requiring a stop even from many major airports. Poor choice in my opinion.

They are very well aware. They don't live in a bubble.
The choice was made for political reasons. They will take the "L" and move on.
It's not the end of the world. They are still the one and only ANA. It's not like people are going to boycott Pittsburgh or Rosemont in the next few years because there were not enough non-stops to OKC in 2025.
Ah yes, political reasons. That's exactly what I suspected. Definitely not the end of the world however the ANA has lost a lot of its luster and members over the past decade or two. I think there is a lot of room for improvement as do many others who have been much more involved than I.
For those of us less enlightened, care to expand on the political reasons?
Just that they never had a WFOM in OK, and some people with some pull wanted to see one in that part of the country.
All I'm saying is that the people running the ANA are not stupid. They realize OKC is not as accessible as Rosemont, or as popular as other places, like even Pittsburgh.
They know attendance will be down. They knew the bourse would likely not sell out. And they went there anyway.
Unless everyone is pleasantly surprised to the upside, it will be a one and done. It's nothing to get worked up over.
If it's too much of a pain to get to, there are worse things in the world than skipping a year. And, it's a rare treat for those within driving distance who never get to have something with the scale of a WFOM in their backyard.
If the ANA announced it was making OKC the new permanent home of the WFOM, there would be something to talk about. But, as it is, no one needs to tell anyone at the ANA that OKC has less direct flights than ORD. They know.
Due to some unfortunate circumstances, I’ll actually get to attend for a couple of hours on Tuesday before I make the 12hr drive back to the desert.
I haven’t been reading the past few pages because I didn’t expect to get to attend, but I’m pumped it’s in OKC. I think the city has a lot to offer and a lot of charm that doesn’t get talked about a lot (and I’m DEFINITELY NOT biased at all because I grew up there)
"But, as it is, no one needs to tell anyone at the ANA that OKC has less direct flights than ORD. They know."
Thank God it's still a free country and I'm allowed to voice my opinions. I'm sure that the ANA committee is aware of the lack of direct flights. However, I think it's very important for numismatists to provide both positive and negative feedback to the ANA. Next years National Money Show is in Savana GA. If you choose to stay at the headquarters hotel (The Westin) for $269 a night that's great. I believe there is one other resort that close but it's more expensive. All the other hotels are located on the other side of the river which is definitely a negative in my opinion.
Hopefully they will choose one of the better locations suggested in this thread for future shows.

Absolutely. You can voice any opinion you want.
Any at all. I was just trying to let you know that they know.
Same with Savannah. They know.
They like to move the shows around. Some will have a zillion hotels at all price points within walking distance, 5 minutes from an international airport with non-stop flights to destinations all over the country. Others won't.
Everyone doesn't have to hit every show. Because it's still a free country, and they are allowed to stage shows wherever they so choose. They try to move them around.
You have every right to defend their choices of locations. However, this is not a one time event as you suggest. Obviously they can choose whatever location the majority of committee members approve. Apparently they think moving the show around to different locations is more important than having successful shows.
I hope I'm wrong and these shows are wildly successful. Unfortunately many people choose not to attend the shows when they are located in area's that are difficult flight destinations.

I'm not defending anything, am not a fan of OKC, and actually agree with you. All I was trying to do was let you know that they know, and chose to do this anyway.
And for the record, it IS a one time event. They have never been to OKC before, and, unless everyone's predictions are wildly incorrect, they won't be going back. So just let the folks in that part of the country have this one without whining about it.
I agree with you. Rosemont is ideal. But it's a little drab, and people get tired of the same thing every year. At least with the ANA. Because no one has a problem with Orlando every January for FUN.
As I said, politics dictated OKC this year. I promise you that the leadership does not think they are going to hit the same numbers they hit in Rosemont, or Pittsburgh, or Philly. But they did it anyway.
The spring shows are a different animal altogether, because attendance is half of the WFOM, at best. So there is no reason not to move them around. They recently had one in Colorado Springs, during a snowstorm, for crying out loud!
Savannah is beautiful. If it doesn't work for you, that's fine with them. Lots of folks won't be going, no matter where they have it. They know.
I have absolutely no knowledge how ANA chooses its WFOM locations. But I wonder what their goal is. If it’s a bit more about getting new people into the hobby, then shifting the show among various locations might be better. But if it’s more about maximizing ANA and dealer revenue, then staying in high traffic locations might be better.
I see that APMEX is a title sponsor (whatever that means) of this year’s show, and I know they are OKC-based. So maybe the big players influence show locations as well.

Well, I do have some idea. They are not IMEX, Whitman Expos, or Great American Coin and Collectibles.
They are a Congressionally chartered non-profit hobby organization. They have to appease a constituency that means caring about things other than squeezing the last possible person into a convention hall. It is what it is.
ANA in Oklahoma City is a good idea. It is nice to go to a different city. After all, Rosemont is getting old. If you need a direct flight, then wait till the next one suits you. You must remember that we, as coin collectors, are spread all over the U.S., and dealers are also present. Then it's the cost of the convention center. Have you ever considered that the convention center in Rosemont may be becoming too expensive? Either way, I don't have a direct flight, but I'll still make the best of it.
Well, I’ve always wanted to spend some time in Savannah. I’ve spent many many days in all the major cities mentioned in this thread. As a collector, a location that I would visit for pleasure is preferable to places I’m very familiar with. BTW I’ve made a few trips to OKC and enjoyed them. If I were a dealer I might very well feel differently as I would be primarily focused on business, not pleasure - security, travel convenience and cost.

Wow - glad I live just four hours away and can just make a day trip out of it.
Maybe two people from California will attend. Savannah is such a great destination city that the OP couldn’t even spell it correctly.
Nope for me. First ANA I’ll miss in about 15 years including the time I lived in Europe. Too
Much going on, too much to spend money on already at the auctions, and a pain in the ass place to get to.

I looked up the approximate number of CITIES served by non-stop flights to the following airports, so we can have an objective conversation about "accessibility":
200 Chicago
90 Orlando
65 Tampa
35 Pittsburgh
20 Oklahoma City
20 Savannah
12 Colorado Springs

Why? We already determined accessibility is not the be-all, end-all. If it was, Colorado Springs and OKC would never see a show.
It's a national organization. Non-profit. They have a constituency to serve that sometimes involves running shows in places that do not maximize convenience, and therefore revenue and attendance.
The topic has truly been beaten to death. Rosemont is the base, due to convenience and accessibility. They will then move it around to appease one constituency or another. Most people's wish lists will never be satisfied, either because the show is too small to entice convention authorities to even be interested in it, or due to sales tax issues, competition with incumbents like Whitman and FUN, etc.
We all have plenty to choose from, between ANA, FUN, Whitman, CSNS, IMEX, GACC, and all the local and regional shows. The ANA does not have to avoid any particular location because any of us find it to be inconvenient.
We all have free will, and don't have to do anything or go anywhere if we find it to be inconvenient. We will survive, and so will the ANA. It's all good. Let OKC have its show!

Why not have a coin show in Atlantic City then? AC is closer to Philly than Colorado Springs is to Denver.
I bet @mfeld will drive to OKC faster than a typical drive from Denver to Colorado Springs.
My larger point is that OKC is not any less convenient than Pittsburgh/Savannah/Colorado Springs. The only difference is the number of people whining about it.
Thanks for doing this, I think it could be very useful. I added 3 cities, bolded the top 5, and removed Colorado Springs.
