Anybody else having problems with lost packages from the Mint lately? I have had the last two shipments lost. They ship via FedEx through a system of "drop shipments", which means a shrink wrapped pallet of mail from FedEx "Smartpost" is delivered to the local post office for delivery to recipients. The post office signs for the pallet but does not verify that all packages are there. Yeh, I asked about that and was told by my post office AND FedEx that they just don't check. FedEx told me sometimes packages fall off or are damaged and they just set them aside or slip them onto another pallet, so they may or may not actually go out to the correct place if they go out at all. So when you check the tracking number online and it says your package was delivered to your post office for delivery to you, that apparently is meaningless. I called the Mint and was told I can't file a claim until 30 days after they shipped the item to me.

It seems likely to me that somebody has learned to recognize mint shipments and is helping himself to a few. The system currently in use has absolutely no accountability and is just asking for abuse. And it's quite frustrating that nobody at the post office or FedEx seems to care at all. I'm going to change my shipping address to my in-laws house in a nearby town and hope my packages start to get through.

In an attempt to second guess the current order/processing/shipping protocol of the US Mint, here is another past dated blurb.

I think to get the real answer we would have to ask the mint, but from my experiences this is what I believe happens.

1) There is an automated checking process. Once an order is placed and a hold put on a Credit Card, the units available get reduced by that amount.
2) The orders go into a processing step.
3) Once the processing units equal a predefined number (lets say 175K for the Peace dollar) the item is marked no longer available and all sales stop.
4) After the processing step the orders are confirmed. Basically, did you buy the allotted amount, is your address and CC information valid. This is probably automated also.
5) If you meet all checks the order gets processed and in the case of the Peace dollar goes into Back-Order and gets added to a queue to be filled once the item is available.
6) For orders that fail the automated process they get added to a queue for manual review (one of my orders went into this as it was my 4th order and should have free shipping).
7) Due to the number of orders this can take from a day to a few days to a week or longer. My 4th order stayed in processing for 6 days.
8) At the manual review time the US Mint has the final say as to what they are going to do. If you ordered 4 and the HH limit was 3 they (the mint) might reduce the number or cancel the order.

The mint on their website is very vague on how they will resolve this:

"If an order has outstanding issues (such as credit card holds, household order limit violations, or address verification conflicts), the next orders in line can be fulfilled before the one with outstanding issues. While the issues for an order are being worked out, the status of an order may display "hold" during this time. Once the outstanding issues are resolved, the order is re-inserted next in line. Accordingly, such re-inserted orders will not be processed for shipment in the same sequence as their order numbers."

It seems perhaps the doge made the inefficiently even more inefficient. I didn't think it could be possible but here we are.

Define 'process.' Because the mint knew that they had to ship out 90k packages containing one coin, they were probably packaging them all up over the past few weeks so all they have to do is put a sticker on them and call USPS at this point.

Mine is still in backordered status, ordered the day it when live at around 1225. USM156021

Another 2,600+ added to inventory.

I have wondered same, but it is not easy to cancel that I can see? It looks like someone would have to be determined enough to call them to cancel.

If too many days of sitting backordered, when it is not even sold out and after a month for some buyers committing to it, I could see the fickle or curmudgoney hitting the whammy button. They were wise to move it.

The mint is canceling orders, but so must buyers be at this point.

The mintage of 100k is low enough that these might behave like the regular Flowing hair medals that crept up in price after all had been released. There will be four silver eagle proofs at 100k mintage which would be the key coins barring a couple of lower mintage coins.

If the answer to your first question is "yes", you don't need the rest of the post.

I have one backordered and one processing. Processing was release day and backordered was a month ago

status still processing but shipping method changed to one carrier which means shipping label ready to print. Expect to show shipped when label printed then sent to carrier tomorrow and live tracking tomorrow night.

Then "Wait for delivery each day until 3" however with todays efficiency of the post office may have to wait until 8:00

I ordered one in the first hour on Day 1...and a second one on the day they subsequently became available again...

Both are still "backordered" so go figure?

Why? The trajectory is the same. Yes inventory keeps getting added back which is nothing new but the amount is less and less each time so the trend is intact. do you expect the inventory to keep getting added back ad infinitum? And what happened in the last couple of days? Yep, the Mint started actually charging credit cards before shipment. No surprise that a small percentage didn't go through. A temporary setback. Not a permanent recurring one.

USPS expects to deliver your package today between 8:15am and 12:15pm.
