@Steven59 said: Could easily go 0-8. Cleveland "experts" are saying may be another 3 win season - but with the NFL referees and all the upsets that happen it could be a 5 win season.
It's no secret who the opponents are, it's only the order that gets decided after the draft. Understanding that much always puzzles me about the way a team like Cleveland approaches the draft and any other signings they might make. Can the honestly think they can compete this seasons?? Have a winning record?? Have an actual chance at making the playoffs??
The answer to all the above is a resounding no.
That's why the annual attempt to find the franchise QB is such an act of futility and why the team's approach is always doomed to failure. It makes me think of Einstein's definition of insanity --- doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Maybe if the Browns front office did it differently and drafted the best available athlete and focused on improving the team instead of wasting picks on QB's they'd improve.
I'm so tired of the team being less than mediocre, but as long as the NFL shares revenue and makes money for the teams that SUCK it'll never change.
"Maybe if the Browns front office did it differently and drafted the best available athlete and focused on improving the team instead of wasting picks on QB's they'd improve."
They have to draft QB's - no league QB that is any good doesn't want to come here!
"When they can't find anything wrong with you, they create it!"
They just signed two "game managers" during the off-season. That's all they really need barring injury to get them through the season.
My point is simple: Flacco and Picket can accomplish what the past 20+ years of reaching for the savior have accomplished. Gabriel and Sanders may end up being the solution but I wouldn't count on that happening. Better to have used those two picks to improve the team where players were available to do that, especially with offensive lineman. Any fan of the Browns who has pie in the sky fantasies of a 5 win team is delusional. The team may not even be watchable this season. I know my excitement level is at rock bottom. I can't even remember the name of their first round draft pick!!
Great for Purdy for sure getting paid but the 49ers just buried themselves with that deal. Hes not even close to a top 10 QB and now hes the 7th highest paid. Other players should be reaching out to his agent lol

Two quarterbacks have had a QBR of 67 or higher each of the last three seasons. Josh Allen is one. The other...
That's great for Purdy but the 49'ers are a shell of their former selves, that D is getting old and McCaffrey is got too many miles on him, also all their WR's are gone lol
SF is just doing the same thing that KC has done this offseason and the what Buffalo did a year ago at this time, getting younger & faster on both sides of the ball while trying to clear up some cap space.
Opinions on Purdy will vary, as will asking if he's really worth getting paid that much money but this is the new norm in the NFL for top 15 starting QBs. His money doesn't kick in until 2026 and by then most of their other higher salaried players are probably going to be off the roster.
Trent Williams will be 37 by the time this season starts. its no secret that SF wants to move Brandon Aiyuk and teams are probably waiting to see how his knee holds up after surgery before giving up picks for him. McCaffrey isn't making huge money and they could either trade or outright release him without it hurting their cap going forward, if they decide to go that route.
4 of their top 5 picks were on the D line which is the one positional group on defense where younger & faster is always better. The only WR that won't be back from last year's team is Deebo and most of the opinions here thought he was washed up to begin with so no big loss there, right? It just means that Jennings & Pearsall both move up their targets depth chart.
The 49ers may not be considered one of the top SB contenders for 2025 but they've got a great HC and a great GM so they're likely to still be competing for the NFCW as long as injuries don't derail their season like they did in 2024.

QBR is a bad stat. Theres been threads about it before as well.
The simple fact is Purdy was average at best last year and has one really good year when he had video game levels of talent around him on the offense.
As pointed out the band is breaking up. Guys are getting older, traded, and hurt. Hes an average QB at best that is now being paid like hes elite.
Everyone, including me, freaked out at the amount of money Cleveland paid Watson at the time of his signing but after some time I changed what I thought. He was the highest paid guy for about a week!! Now he sits at number 12 and when his contract is up he'll probably be around 15. Purdy may/may not deserve what he's being paid but he won't be at the top for long.
These ever escalating salaries have to slow or stop eventually.

Old school NFL fans should be against the "tush push" since it used to be against the rules, and a penalty, to help the ball carrier. Now that the rules have changed, and even a retard knows when the Eagles are going to use the play, learn how to stop it. The current NFL is a little different than it used to be and I guess that starts with the Commissioner.
The only argument against the tush push is that defenders arent allowed to push each other. Either let everyone do it or no one. Id rather just see them let the defenders do it as well instead of making a big rule change
If the Tush push is such a cheat code why doesnt everyone do it? Why doesnt it work every time?

There is a pretty good chance of your center or other lineman getting hurt under. a pile of heavy bodies pushing, not to mention a QB can get messed up as well.
Use at your own risk I guess, but imo your paying a RB to do that job so let him do his job.
It will all change once someone gets hurt bad, you watch

Linemen can get rolled up or hurt on any play. Its not really any different than an inside run.

Insane contract the 49ers gave Purdy
So Purdy will be getting a pay raise of roughly 50+M a season? Yeah, you could say he had a pretty good day. 😉
