I read an article that quoted an NFL scout who said that Cam Ward would have been the 5th or 6th QB taken in last year's draft

I just hope that team at 10 doesn't muck things up

I had checked to see how the top five QBs in this draft compared to the top five in 2024 and using the NFL Network's grading system, Ward would have been tied with Bo Nix at 5th behind Caleb/Daniels/Maye/McCarthy in that order as 1-2-3-4.
    Then there'd be Shedeur/Penix Jr/Dart as 6-7-8.

I just hope that team at 10 4 doesn't muck things up

    🤞

Here's an interesting read about which teams found the most starters over a five year stretch of draft history. No surprise NE sat at the bottom of the league at #30. I'm guessing that would land them in the Ass With A Good QB level from your old power rankings charts lol.
Chicago got ranked pretty high at 11 just behind Buffalo, Philly and LAC.

The best QB coming out typically gets picked first, it's just the way the NFL has changed in the last 25 year. To be honest, looking at the QB's in this year's draft there doesn't seem to be a 1st rounder among them.

I don't get ESPN, will one of you guys please post picks as they come in??

This NFL Network draft tracker should be posting each pick right when they're announced. I can't remember which site does it but either the site I linked below or the ESPN website has actually aired the draft live right on their website so I recommend checking those out as well once the draft starts.

Looks like Cleveland pussied out and traded the 2nd pick.

Looks like most of the picks offset each other and the Browns come away with the Jags #1 next year while falling to #5.

If Abdul Carter falls to #4, you can have him for all of those draft picks. 😎 Nvm.

    We got Campbell

Let's hope he can be that guy 💪

Just my non-professional opinion but the trade from 2 down to 5 makes no sense. They will draft a player at 5 that they could have gotten at 2 anyway, they get a 36 this year and wherever the Jaguars end up next year, probably a 15-20 pick. The other picks involved are so low they don't really matter.

The swap seems like a gift to both the Jaguars and the Giants.

Now that I see Cleveland's pick it really seems stupid, they passed on Carter and took a lesser ranked DL. How does that make sense??

    I couldn't agree more

  • MaywoodMaywood Posts: 2,726 ✭✭✭✭✭

I will admit that having 2 first rounders next year will be good but it's really a gamble since neither team can say where those picks will be and who will be available. Same thing with the 36 pick, I'm sure the Browns can "speculate" who will be available and who they have targeted with that trade but drafts are funny and teams don't always do what they are projected to do.

My last words on the Abdul Carter missed opportunity: with him and Garrett on the edges they would improve the game of whoever is playing inside. This just makes no sense.

  • MaywoodMaywood Posts: 2,726 ✭✭✭✭✭

I notice that at the "CBS Draft Tracker" they rate the Browns pick of DL Mason Graham as a C+.

These were the Jaguars first round picks in recent drafts....
    2025: #5
    2024: #23
    2023: #27
    2022: #1
    2021: #1
    2020: #9
    2019: #7

They're also in YR1 of a new head coach, I'd say that there's a much better chance that 2026 pick lands in the top 10 than it does 15 or later.

Carter was coming with a list of red flags, I can see the logic behind passing on him there especially when there's the possibility of that '26 pick being high.

  • perkdogperkdog Posts: 31,405 ✭✭✭✭✭

I would have taken Hunter or Carter if I were the Browns

Will Levis should be available soon lol

Couple thoughts so far love who the Jags took but think they over paid to move up.

I laughed out loud at the Chargers pick

    Weird pick by the Bears

Cards and Green Bay got a steal

  • Basebal21Basebal21 Posts: 3,985 ✭✭✭✭✭

Defense heavy first round as expected but love the Giants taking Dart over Sanders. Dart probably will sit out a year even though hes their best QB but either way was the smarter pick

I'm shocked Sanders wasn't taken in the first round

  • MaywoodMaywood Posts: 2,726 ✭✭✭✭✭

Logically, he may slip as far as round 4. Any Team in dire need of a QB should/would have already picked one. Rounds 2/3 are where needs are filled and key players for the future are selected.

My fear is that Haslam will step in waste one of the Browns early 2nd round picks on Sanders.

My Vikings took a Guard with their pick. I was hoping for a DB but we can use the OL help so I guess I'm okay with the pick

Opposite for me, as we've been weak in the interior offensive and defensive lines for years - especially on iOL.

We have failed miserably in identifying DB talent for nearly a decade - wasting all sorts of picks that were complete duds.

The Vikings have over $30M+ in cap space and there's a couple big-name, pro bowl CBs that are dissastisfied in Miami and San Diego. I expect the Vikings will get one of them post-draft.

That said, there were two guards that went ahead of MN's pick that were graded higher. The DT from Oregon was also already gone.

Finally, our offensive line is set. On paper, it's the strongest we've had since the great Randall McDaniel era.

    Enjoy your collection!

There are still some really good players left on the board. Cleveland & Chicago each have two picks in the top nine of RD2.

Where you at on drafting Colton Loveland? Between him, Caleb & Rome that's a great trio on offense to build around, plus they could even add to that with those two early 2nds tonight.

That could end up being a blessing in disguise where he'll be drafted with expectations but not as a high first round pick.
Barring a trade up for him tonight, these looks like possible landig spots for him now.
    Browns 33 & 36
    Raiders 37
    Saints 40
    Jets 42
Rams are a maybe at 46

Those are the two players I had hoped the Browns would draft. Once they signed Picket and Flacco I sort of knew they wouldn't take Dart.

I mean Picket is horrible in my opinion and Flacco is ancient

I think they will regret how this draft has gone so far but maybe the joke is on everyone else this time.

I'm surprised the Raiders didn't draft him, Brady being involved I ownership and hasn't he been training Sanders since he was in high school??

I don't think he gets past the Browns to be honest

I can see the reasoning behind the Raiders going with Jeanty over Shedeur when he was viewed as one of the few can't-miss
prospects in this draft. If Brady still lands Shedeur with that pick #37, how long before the NFL world declares it a genius move by Tom where he managed to land the best overall RB/Athlete as well as the 2nd highest rated QB that they almost took with their earlier pick? Sideshow drama aside, Las Vegas might be one of the better spots for Sanders to land with there.

I don't think he gets past the Browns to be honest

I know our Browns buddy in here has been dead set against seeing him land there but like the Raiders scenario I mentioned above, there could have been a chance that Haslam wanted Shedeur at 3 and to get him 30ish picks later to along with the best DT in the draft on top of that huge draft haul, would make for a better alternative outcome.

i'm not very knowledgeable where he's concerned, honestly. i just saw him at the #2 spot for tight ends in most rankings. i had wet dreams about Jeanty but i didn't foresee him getting past Pete Carroll........and he didn't. and i wasn't keen on us mortgaging our future in order to move up to get him.

i'm stoked to see what type of magic Ben Johnson can create offensively. as a Bears fan who needs professional help by virtue of past idiot head coaches, proving that he knows how to use a timeout instead of letting the clock run out when you're driving to win a game would be a good place to start
