The fine is really more about the fact that somehow he got the number of a burner phone that was only for the draft. Only NFL coaches and executives had that number. The call itself is pretty funny wont lie, but it is an issue if his father or the Falcons leaked the number to him
"New York Jets quarterback Jordan Travis has retired from the NFL without ever taking to the field.
Selected in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft by the Jets."
Yet another pathetic draft selection from the Jets.
He was a decent gamble for the Jets. Unfortunately he suffered a brutal injury and just wasnt able to come back from it. Always a shame to see careers end like that but maybe in a couple years he might try to make a come back
Reading today that this Sanders phone number thing has the feel of the Defense Department SignalGate SNAFU about it. According to reports the NFL sent e-mails containing the number to approximately 2,000 people with every NFL franchise. Now the fact that they fined the Falcons and the Coach doesn't seem as "right" as it did before I knew that.
I think as members we have more security here with the PM function.

I mean literally nobody has ever heard of Jordan Travis outside of a handful. of people
Basically everyone that follows college knows his name. He was a star/borderline super star at Florida State that suffered a brutal leg injury just before the last game of the season. He would have almost certainly been a 1st or 2nd round pick had it not been for the injury. The undefeated FSU ACC champions were even left out of the playoffs because his injury was so detrimental they would be non competitive with how much their backup struggled in the ACC title game.
Theyre the only power conference team to ever go undefeated and win their conference and be left out of the 4 team playoff. Had Travis been healthy they would have been a lock to be in

Fair enough but unless you were a college fan like you said nobody heard of this guy, it's not like he was a household name going into the draft is what I meant

Yea, but ya see that's where a team with a deadhead front office like the Jets, constantly screws up. Other teams obviously analyzed that type of injury and figured he was a bad choice to draft. So not only was that pick a total waste for the Jets, but money was thrown out the window as well.

Ewers fell way way down this year from his medical history
For Travis he likely would have failed anyways because the Jets do Jets things and cant draft a QB to save their life. I do wonder if their medical staff and organization dont have a great history of rehabbing guys.
They probably could have waited another round especially with Milton still there but its worth taking a chance on a top 2 round talent in the late rounds. If he gets healthy you got a steal if not you burned a pick that really never amounts to anything anyways other than maybe running backs or a kicker. They probably would have ruined him like they do all their QBs lol but other teams would have taken him before the draft was over taking the chance he gets healthy
Even though theyre calling it a football decision to protect themselves from being sued by him, theyre just using it as an excuse to get out of his expensive contract now that they drafted a kicker. This is the same organization that idolizes Ray Lewis

For sure. Had he not been coming off the worst season of his career hed still be on the roster.
I read/watched a little about the trade and heard it summed up best by a Pittsburgh sports reporter named Gerry Dulac: "When the production outweighs the problems you keep him, when the problems outweigh the production you get rid of him." Make no mistake about it, the Pittsburgh Steelers are one of the best operated and most disciplined franchise in all of sports. They have moved on like this before with Diontae Johnson, Chase Claypool, Antonio Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster. Those guys all wasted their talent at the expense of their egos and now George Pickens has joined the group.
So I finally found the specifics of the trade:
Cowboys get George Pickens and a 2027 sixth rounder.
Steelers get a 2026 third rounder and 2027 fifth rounder.
To me that says "Please take this player off our team." WOW!!!

@perkdog, no doubt Pickens is talented but so were the others I listed, especially Antonio Brown. Their collective problem is ego and self-control. My thinking is that with some NFL players the entitlement that comes with success and wealth is their undoing.

Correct, but even Antonio Brown was legendary for awhile
Pickens is young, he might want to take note of Kadarious Toney and try to simply do everything opposite of how his career went down and realize he needs to. smarten up or he won't be in the league very long
Maybe as a situational pass rusher on an incentive laden 1yr deal. I read that he signed a 2yr/20m deal last offseason and finished with 5.5 sacks in 14 games, I'd take that if we could get him in that 6-8M range but he's 32 and might just prefer to try winning a ring elsewhere.
Von Miller & Judon are still out there as well. i'd consider any one of them at the right price, you could never have too many defensive linemen to add to their pass rush rotation but who knows if the front office would even consider Judon at this point.
edit: I saw some complaints from our fanbase that we didn't go after Pickens, I wouldn't have complained if we got him, we definitely need someone to fill that X-role but I also have zero issue with holding onto our picks until we find the best fit if we trade for a wideout. Similar to how I felt about possibly signing Ridley, if it happened great, if not, no big loss.
When Clowney was signed by the Browns it wasn't for his pass rush ability, it was because he was good against the run game. His prowess as a pass rusher and sacks, however great it might have been, is long since gone.

Its been awhile since I've actually watched him play, he's likely a part time player going forward anyways.
Also I didn't realize that his next team will be his 7th,
The NFL is continuing their policy of releasing the NFL schedule piecemeal and they’ve started by announcing just the first game of the season which will have the Dallas Cowboys traveling to Philadelphia to face their division rival and reigning Super Bowl Champion Eagles.

Pittsburgh has rid themselves of the shit-show that surrounded George Pickens, shipping him to Dallas.
For sure. Had he not been coming off the worst season of his career hed still be on the roster.

I keep hearing that ARod may still end up in Pitts. I wonder if there is any truth to the rumors?
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
My cellphone blows for posting sorry
He has talent and if he can stop with his attitude he could be good
