If I had to choose which team extends their season tonight I'd go with the Lakers, they have someone who's carried his team through plenty of win or go home situations in Lebron. Houston doesn't really have that guy but they are playing at home though. I'd probably go with LA & GS tonight.
"Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton's father, John, will not attend the team's games for the foreseeable future following an incident with Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo, a Pacers spokesperson confirmed to ESPN's Shams Charania on Thursday (May 1)."
"After conversations with Tyrese Haliburton’s father John Haliburton and the Indiana Pacers front office, John Haliburton will not attend the team’s home and road games for the foreseeable future, a Pacers spokesperson told ESPN," Charania wrote on his X account. "This was a decision made by the Pacers front office and John Haliburton was understanding and accepted the choice after confronting Giannis Antetokounmpo on the court postgame Tuesday night."
"When they can't find anything wrong with you, they create it!"
WOW! Cavs sure did lay an egg tonight. They keep playing like this and they won't have to worry about Boston. 9 out of 38 from 3 point line for 24% is crap!
"When they can't find anything wrong with you, they create it!"
Huge win for the Dubs! Buddy Hield picked the perfect time to have his most memorable playoffs game.
This next series should be a good one when you factor in all of the personal battles...
Steph vs Ant
Draymond vs Gobert (O/U on number of times each gets T'd up?)
Jimmy Butler vs Wolves fans (his departure from the Wolves ended like all of his previous other stops...badly)
The Pacers/Cavs turned out to be a great game as well, Indy definitely lived up to their Pace-rs moniker where they just love to run & gun. Its a shame that Garland has been sidelined with that toe injury because he's tailor made for that type of playstyle, hopefully he'll back for G2.
Really looking forward to NY/Boston tonight, both teams should be at full strength to start the series.

Hopkins won’t play a single second of game time in that series so I wouldn’t worry about not having him out there. 😉
EDIT: Can someone give Hopkins directions to Boston, they're looking to hire someone capable of running an offensive play in OT. That was brutal to watch over that 4th & OT.👎😠
Boston was lucky it actually went into overtime after NY barley missed that bank shot with a second left.
But yeah - Cavs and Celtics now have to win 4 out of 6 to advance - unbelievable.
"When they can't find anything wrong with you, they create it!"
Glad the book made it impossible to bet on the Celtics last night cuz I would have dropped a bomb on them, hope everyone took NY and buried the bookies
Celts can't allow the refs to control. any game, they need to ramp it up
such a lazy, lazy game by the Celtics last night. up 20 and just toss up 3's instead of driving and putting the game away at the line.
just lazy
they're one of the worst best teams you'll ever see. hours before the game steve and i were having a discussion on the gambling thread and i specifically said you have to be very careful with the Celtics. i've seen it so many times -- they are notorious for blowing massive leads and ultimately losing to inferior teams because they play an undisciplined brand of basketball. and right on cue........voila. up 20 in the 3rd at home with two guys on their roster who have the ability to regularly attack the rim with reckless abandon and put games away, yet they gift-wrapped a win to the Knicks because they decided to jack up sixty three balls...........and missed forty-five of them.
they may end up winning this series and who knows, perhaps the chip again, but they make things very hard on themselves. one of these years they're going to inexplicably give a game away like they did last night and it's going to cost them their season
I heard that the Celtics, with a 20 point lead, turned to shooting 3 point shots on multiple possessions taken with 12 or more seconds left on the shot clock. They ended up missing most of the 3 point shots. As a result the Knicks were able to come back from the 20 point lead and eventually win the game. I understand that Tatum was 1-9 from 3 point territory in the fourth quarter and in overtime (with him being 0-7 in the fourth quarter).
If the above is accurate then the blame for the Celtics game 1 loss is on both the coaches and the players for terrible decision making.
First - With a 20 point lead the Celtics should have used most of the 24 seconds on the shot clock for each of their offensive possessions (to run the game clock down and limit the number of possessions for the Knicks).
Second - With a 20 point lead and not making their 3 point shots, the Celtics should have passed the ball around the court multiple times and ran a motion offense to create openings for drives to the basket for 2 point shots in the paint, for layups and/or for penetration and passes out to open players on the perimeter.
I assume that the Celtics will make needed corrections for Game 2. If not, they could be looking at losing both home games.
Jalen Brunson of the Knicks is playing at an elite level.
While out running errands and having a sandwich I gave some thought to the 8 teams still competing for a title. While doing so I thought about which Finals match up would/could (possibly) see viewership ratings sky rocket.
After giving some thought to that I came up with:
Knicks v. Warriors
Madison Square Garden in Manhattan; New York (the basketball mecca; and global center for many things, including media coverage); Spike Lee sitting courtside; the Knicks returning to the Finals for the first time in 26 years and seeking to win a title for the first time in 52 years
vs.
The Warriors (who are trying to win title #5 in the past 11 years and who are trying to play in Finals #7 in the past 11 years); and Stephen Curry (who the Knicks wanted to draft at #8 but were unable to since the Warriors took him at #7 in the 2009 NBA draft; who is currently 13-1 against the Knicks in MSG; who dropped 54 on the Knicks in MSG on 2-26-2013; who is one of the best NBA players ever; who at 37 years of age is still playing at a level rarely reached; and who is a global icon [for example see his Olympic Performance in Paris in the summer of 2024]).
When I think of other possible match ups in the Finals they have intriguing aspects to them but not at the same level of expected interest that a Knicks v. Warriors matchup would bring [no shade on round #2 of Celtics vs. Warriors but that would be a do over of 2022 and would lack the presence of the Knicks and all that would come with them].
What Finals match up do you thinks would generate the highest viewership ratings?
Any NBA team that is up 20 points and loses deserves to be called lazy, when a team is up like that and they decide to finish the rest of the game with 3 point shooting practice then they deserve to lose and be ridiculed

Looks like Orlando is ready for the offseason. The 3rd quarter killed their chance.

Hopefully that series goes the full 7, Boston could use as much rest as possible right now.

Will Minnesota and GSW advance to the second round tonight sending LA and Houston on a vacation?
Or will one or both first round series go to a Game 6?

Tell the Cavs players to be wary of Tyrese Haliburton's old man, I hear he's a real menace. 😎

I'm shocked the Lakers lost
I agree. I thought when they added Luka they would be stronger. they got zero bench contributions though.
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
Lakers when it mattered, facing elimination, scored a lowly 16 points in the 4th quarter.
LeBron can now go back to his billion dollar empire, and complain about how badly he is treated.
Here's a live look in on the Dallas Mavs front office after seeing Luka get kicked out of the playoffs last night...

Great game by GSW to win round one. Houston was a formidable opponent. The Rockets will be much better on the coming years.

Obviously NY first, then Boston - VS - Golden State. I don't think Denver, OKC, or Memphis would even be considered for ratings.

So Mobley, Hunter, and Garland sitting tonight -
"When they can't find anything wrong with you, they create it!"
I can't believe it - really? The last second the Cavs lose after leading all game.
"When they can't find anything wrong with you, they create it!"
Indiana outscored the Cavs 36-21 in the 4th. Once again Cavs shot horrible from 3: 11 of 39 for 28%.
"When they can't find anything wrong with you, they create it!"
Well this doesn't sound good...........
"Breaking: Stephen Curry has been ruled out for the remainder of Game 1 vs. the Timberwolves with a left hamstring injury,"

Warriors shutdown Minnesota in game 1, especially in the first half.

Game 2 on Thursday night will be interesting.
