My sense is that it would be easier to play CB and do as you said, play on offense in spot situations, then to go the other way around. CB needs to learn coverage and then react, a receiver had better do the right thing and be in the right place all the time or it's a problem.
There's going to be a learning curve either way but he's a highly intelligent kid with elite athleticism, he'll probably soon figure it out regardless of which side he starts out on.
If NE drafted him I'd just assume that he was coming in to start at WR when the need there is great and they just signed CB Carlton Davis to 23M/yr to play next to Gonzalez. I think that he could possibly play as a nickel 3rd corner or a zone coverage free safety where you just have him track the ball.
Someone like Belichick would probably love to land a player with his type of versatility, he'd probably also find a million ways to use both Carter & Mason Graham as well.
@Maywood said:
Again, JMHO, but Tavis Hunter might look better if he focused on one position. Is he a receiver or is he a cornerback. All this talk about "can Carter adjust to the NFL" has to be looked at through the same lens with Hunter. The difference? He will be expected to make that transition at TWO positions, so he needs to know not only the offensive playbook but he needs to know the defense. Either one of those is a daunting undertaking. I think he would be more valuable to the Browns as a DB.
Looking at another angle, what if he goes two-way with whoever drafts him?? What happens if he gets injured?? And it doesn't have to be a serious injury, it could just be a day-to-day thing. That means two sides of the ball have to adjust.
But hey, we aren't dealing with any Deion Sanders hype about how good Hunter is, but I would avoid him UNLESS I had an assurance that he'd be playing only one position. I also see him as a potential problem in the locker room and on the sideline, but that's just me.
These three players, Cam Ward, Travis Hunter and Abdul Carter seem to have "sucked all the oxygen" out of talks about the available players, they get the lions share of attention. That leaves it open for teams to maybe steal some blue-chippers who are overlooked. I really haven't heard much talk about Offensive Lineman and DB which are two positions Cleveland could bolster with this draft.
Assuming the Browns draft Carter, then a QB with their second pick, they'll probably miss out on most of the top offensive tackles by their third pick if they're looking for a guy who can start somewhat quickly. This is a great year if you're looking for a good DB though especially at CB in the top 100 picks. Lots of good safeties too.
Something to keep in mind about the Browns picks after the first round, they own #33 (first pick on Day 2) and #104 (second pick on Day 3) so they're likely going to have someone trying to trade up into those spots after teams reset their draft boards between each night of the draft.
Hunter isnt a locker room problem and doesnt need to play every down on both sides. He did so because Colorado didnt have better options. There are games where he did just gas out on defense from playing to many snaps like the Stanford game. Smart teams would rotate him depending on the opponent. Team with an elite passing core more defense, teams with bad WRs more offense. He hasnt shown anything though so far that would be a question mark, hes a video game guy that happens to be really good at football. Letting him fall to the Pats would be a huge gift to the Pats
Joe Flacco should push Picket to perform, a healthy training camp competition is good so long as it doesn't create a Quarterback controversy. Past that, Flacco should be a good mentor for him and help Picket to improve as a QB. Flacco was a good locker room presence before so that helps, also.
I always thought the Browns should have signed Flacco after the Houston loss and retained him for last season. Ironically, if they would have they probably wouldn't have the 2nd pick in the Draft right now. Funny how things work out.
Nine days till the Draft and it can't get here quick enough. Former Ohio State QB Will Howard said "I’m going to make it my mission to make sure that they regret not picking me.” I wish these guys could just shut their mouths, play football and realize how fortunate they are.

"I didn't have an offer from Pitt, I didn't have an offer from Syracuse, I didn't have an offer from Boston College, Penn State, Duke, Carolina. None of those schools offered me. I was trying for years. And I went to Kansas State and said, 'I want to prove those people wrong.' I hope Penn State looks back and says 'Damn, we missed out on Will Howard.'"
"You know, when I get to the NFL, I don't want you guys to miss out on me," Howard said. "Because every single team that picks a quarterback in front of me, I'm going to make it my mission to make sure that they regret not picking me."
If I'm a team that's looking for young QB, he sounds like the exact type player that I'd want to take a chance on. He's a projected mid round pick so your not wasting a high valued pick on him.
@Maywood You've probably seen Howard play more than anyone else here with you living in Ohio, is he any good? ESPN has him ranked as their 6th best QB and he's ranked 98th overall. The Cavs have 5 of the top 104 picks in the draft so they could still draft for numerous other positions. Or do you think he'll just bust out like many other middle round QBs throughout the years?
@erikthredd said: Or do you think he'll just bust out like many other middle round QBs throughout the years??
Hard to tell. I know that he showed he can do everything required last year for the Buckeyes, but that was an exceptional team with an outstanding group of receivers. He's the right size and throws nice. But that could be said about Mac Jones coming out and he's been a bust. I think many of the top rated QB's could do just fine if they end up on the right team but most often that team isn't picking when that player is taken.
NCAA football gets more like the NFL every year, so the players are better prepared. But consider this --- a total of more than 18,000 players are in the FBS each season compared to around 1,700 in the NFL each season. Will Howard and QB's like him might dominate in the NCAA, but they probably haven't seen the quickness and tight coverage of even the worst NFL DB's and they certainly haven't been rushed or chased by the slowest DL's who are really, really quick in the NFL.
The NFL is so fast that I think a lot of the players can't make the adjustment.

I’d say that while starting for OSU he's probably faced off against some elite collegiate defenses, including his own everyday in practice. If he's getting ranked in the top 100 heading into the draft then those evaluators think highly of him but like you stated above, it really comes down to if/where he gets the oppurtunity to develop.
I have zero issue with these young players having such a high level of confidence in themselves, Brady was notorious for this very early on in his Pats career, but I think these agents need to do a better job getting through to their players that every little thing you say now gets amplified & dissected.
Travis Hunter was the next to fall victim to this: https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/44685958/travis-hunter-quit-football-play-ways Reading his entire quote, this story doesn''t seem so extreme but when the sports media chops it up to get the best headlines, this is what happens. Hopefully it hurts his draft stock that he now falls to 4. 🤞😉
someone will placate Hunter by starting him as either a WR or CB and give him 5 snaps a game at the other position. at least for a few years. then his body will find out soon enough why 2 way players are no longer a thing in the NFL.
@erikthredd, I saw an article yesterday about Travis Hunter which suggested that if he wasn’t playing both ways he wouldn’t play at all. That seems extreme but not as extreme as @perkdog’s pronouncements!! 😂
@Maywood said: @erikthredd, I saw an article yesterday about Travis Hunter which suggested that if he wasn’t playing both ways he wouldn’t play at all. That seems extreme but not as extreme as @perkdog’s pronouncements!! 😂
The media just chopped up that quote to make it as clickbaity as possible and perk was right. Its not like Hunter will just take his ball and go home if he doesn't get his way.
We still have a week to go till the draft and I'm sure if a player farts we're going to immediately hear about it.
Detroit Lions General Manager Brad Holmes might have the "Draft Run-up" quote of the off-season:
--- “I think you can get in trouble chasing needs sometimes, and then you’re depending on a rookie,” Holmes said, via the team’s website. “You do the best you can, but nobody has a crystal ball. So, it can be a tough world to live in.”
This kind of thinking falls directly in line with what I have thought about the Cleveland Browns, year after disappointing year, trying to draft the QB who would be the savior of the franchise. My thinking was always to trade for a veteran to be used as a bridge until the right rookie came along who could "apprentice" for as long as it took. Meanwhile, use draft picks for the best available player/athlete or to trade around the NFL for what's needed.
These poor owners and GM's get sucked into a "win now at all costs" mentality. A team that finishes 3-14 like the Browns has a revenue not much lower then the Super Bowl Champion Eagles!!! It's all about endorsements and media. The fans might be upset but they still pour into stadiums on Sunday.
Just watched a clip of Nick Chubb squatting 575 pounds!!! Seems like the knee is sturdy enough, all that remains is how it holds up to playing. Still wondering why the Browns haven't signed him because he's been clear, he wants to finish his career in Cleveland.
Anyone here going to the draft? Even if it was close by in Minneapolis I would not go. According to Wikipedia, last year the attendance was 775,000. That is just way too many people for it to be enjoyable.

Would you sign a 29 year old Running back who's last 2 years produced those numbers?
Squatting 600 pounds is great but means nothing when it comes to cutting and repeated wear and tear on a surgically repaired knee.
Running Back production can be had cheaper
I like Chubb but I think his glory years are over look at Dalvin Cook who was a beast in Minny then a change of scenery and he is a nobody and he never even got hurt.
Those are valid points but the stats are misleading. In 2023 he was injured in the 2nd game before the end of the first half. Prior to that his "production" was fine and he was chewing up the Steelers so let's not hold that against him. When he returned from the injury it was clear he wasn't 100%, the team even stated maybe 80% IIRC. His earliest games that season were rehab. To my knowledge his knee is fine but I'm in agreement that a player can't simulate game action. To his credit, Chubb has come back from this before so he's just as likely to succeed as fail. I tend to be an optimist.
His physical health and even his age aren't the biggest factors against him, it's the current state of the offensive line and the way the game changes. It's no longer anywhere close to a running league no matter how much Kevin Stefanski wants it to be by the way he designs/runs his offense.
So all the "pundits" seem to be settled on the Browns picking Travis Hunter with the 2nd overall pick and it just doesn't make sense to me. It's what I call The Haslam-Effect and it's what happens when a team has a pro-active owner like the Cleveland Browns have. In the end it's his team, he signs the payroll checks so he can spend his money the way he wants. I always draw everyone's attention to the Browns' chief rival, the Pittsburgh Steelers, as a blue print for how an organization should be run. You'll never find anyone by the name of Rooney making the choices in that franchise and look at what they have done through the years; they win.
Please, Mr. Haslam, let the men you have hired to make these choices make these choices.

I'm seeing Jeanty being talked about in top 10 even a couple top. 5 mock drafts
I thought the days of seriously considering a running back early were over.
I think its because everyone just watched Saquon finish off the greatest season in history by a RB and some GM may think that drafting a RB like Jeanty may get them closer to duplicating that level of success on offense.
For me, it only would make sense to draft a RB that high if the team has all of the other main pieces on offense (QB/LT/WR1) already in place like the Jags, Bears & Cowboys OR if you team was straight garbage in the run game like the Raiders. Everyone else in the top 12 either is missing the QB or the OL just isn't good enough for a rookie RB to have the immediate type of succes that you'd expect after taking one in the top 10. I wouldn't include the 49ers at 11 in that group just because they have McCaffrey.

Jeanty won't get past 10. My team will scoop him up there. But I don't think he's going to sink that far, because Pete Carroll is going to nab him at 6. It'll cost the Bears handsomely to leapfrog the Raiders in order to do that, and I'm not sure I want that to happen. We've got line issues we need to address, and there will be some nice upgrades on the board when it's our time to pluck.
I’ll think its because everyone just watched Saquon finish off the greatest season in history by a RB
Really??
From start to finish? Yeah, definitely.
2,005 Rushing yards & 13 TDs in 16 games. Averaged 125 y/g to go along with 33/278/2 as a receiver.
Had another 499 rushing yards & 5 TDs in four playoff games on the way to winning the SB.
Soon after the SB he signed a record breaking contract for RBs.
If the Eagles coaching staff hadn't sat him in Week 18 he would own the record for most rushing yards in a season.
That's my vote for greatest season by a RB, If you disagree that's fine but I have no intention of arguing about it with you lol.
@Maywood said:
Who said anything about arguing?? It just struck me as though you overlooked the 1973 season of OJ Simpson who did what Saquon did in only 14 games.
He was adding in the Playoffs which isn't any knock on Simpson but it is what it is.
You can take any of the greatest season opinions and your not losing no matter who you chose

I may need to rethink my vote lol. Terrell Davis in 1998 finished with 2225 yards from scrimmage & 23tds during the season and another 537 & 3 in one less game in the playoffs.

There's no wrong answer here when we've seen so many great seasons by a RB. My criteria in my o.p. was counting season and playoffs combined and I honestly forgot about Terrell Davis winning MVP & SBMVP in '98. Saquon was pretty awesome this past season though.
If by chance you guys can't watch the Draft on your TV or any other electronic devices that you have...

My dad will be watching the Draft upstairs and the volume will be so Loud on the TV that you guys can hear it as well...
😂🤣🙃
I think that its hard to predict which teams will draft a QB and how high of a pick will they use if they do.
Assuming the Titans take Ward #1, you have all of these other teams that could draft a Qb with that first pick OR just trade up from their second one...
Browns have 2 & 33
Giants 3 & 34
Raiders 6 & 37
Jets 7 & 42
Saints 9 & 40
Steelers at 21 are a possibility (the likely spot for Shedeur if he falls there)
Rams at 26 are a maybe to go with a QB
I don't think that either of Sanders or Dart go in the top 3 but I'd be really surprised if either one makes it to round two when the Browns, Giants, Raiders & Saints all have extra mid round picks that could be used to trade up.
As for which one (Shedeur or Dart) should go first? NFL Network has Sanders (6.30 grade) rated closer to Cam Ward (6.39) than he is to Jaxson Dart (6.17) so take that for what its worth.
Its definitely a weak QB class but very deep at EDGE, DT, TE & RB. We might get UDFA's at those positions that would have been 3rd to 5th rounders in previous years, would be a great time to possibly double up at one of them. That Covid season led to a ton of players prolonging their college careers and many of them are in this draft. (edit: the downside to that though, many of these players are a little older which means they'll be in their late 20's by the time that they sign that second NFL contract.)
@perkdog said:
Is Jackson Dart going to go before Sanders?
Should he?
He should but probably not unless the Giants take him. Sanders is taller, but Dart is better and didnt spend his career in programs treating him like a diva which many transfers including good players have said about Sanders. Dart also doesnt take sacks to protect his passer rating which there is evidence Sanders did. I wouldnt draft Sanders and do think Dart is better, but if the Giants dont take Dart Sanders likely goes before him

Will Howard will suck
Travis Hunter is lying through his teeth but I still hope the Pats draft him
someone will placate Hunter by starting him as either a WR or CB and give him 5 snaps a game at the other position. at least for a few years. then his body will find out soon enough why 2 way players are no longer a thing in the NFL.
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
@erikthredd, I saw an article yesterday about Travis Hunter which suggested that if he wasn’t playing both ways he wouldn’t play at all. That seems extreme but not as extreme as @perkdog’s pronouncements!!

But how's that "Haslam" interfering with players acquired been working out lately?

holding back a little -

I can agree with all of this for sure
Jeanty won't get past 10. My team will scoop him up there. But I don't think he's going to sink that far, because Pete Carroll is going to nab him at 6. It'll cost the Bears handsomely to leapfrog the Raiders in order to do that, and I'm not sure I want that to happen. We've got line issues we need to address, and there will be some nice upgrades on the board when it's our time to pluck.

Couldn't have overlooked OJ's season when I wasn't even on the planet at that time lol.

I may need to rethink my vote lol. Terrell Davis in 1998 finished with 2225 yards from scrimmage & 23tds during the season and another 537 & 3 in one less game in the playoffs.

I liked your post or agreed but I don't necessarily agree blindly that Barkley had the "Greatest" season ever but regardless I'd have no problem with anyone saying it was, that's why I'm good with it
Like I told @Maywood nobody is losing no matter who's greatest season we put out there - within reason of course and both you guys know football so I am. confident either one of you guys could post a winner
There's no wrong answer here when we've seen so many great seasons by a RB. My criteria in my o.p. was counting season and playoffs combined and I honestly forgot about Terrell Davis winning MVP & SBMVP in '98. Saquon was pretty awesome this past season though.

hey fellow forum members...
If by chance you guys can't watch the Draft on your TV or any other electronic devices that you have...
I got ya covered on that part...Just open your windows 🪟, not the windows on your devices 📲💻... Open up your house 🏡 windows 🪟 and listen... Trust Me 🙏
My dad will be watching the Draft upstairs and the volume will be so Loud on the TV that you guys can hear it as well...
😂🤣🙃
At this point I thought you were talking about a draft coming in through the windows....
Is Jackson Dart going to go before Sanders?
Should he?
NFL Network has Sanders (6.30 grade) rated closer to Cam Ward (6.39) than he is to Jaxson Dart (6.17) so take that for what its worth.

this is a weak sauce draft class as a whole imo
more specifically, i don't foresee any of these QB prospects sniffing the top 5 at their position at the next level, ever
you'll never be able to outrun a bad diet
Its definitely a weak QB class but very deep at EDGE, DT, TE & RB. We might get UDFA's at those positions that would have been 3rd to 5th rounders in previous years, would be a great time to possibly double up at one of them. That Covid season led to a ton of players prolonging their college careers and many of them are in this draft. (edit: the downside to that though, many of these players are a little older which means they'll be in their late 20's by the time that they sign that second NFL contract.)

He should but probably not unless the Giants take him. Sanders is taller, but Dart is better and didnt spend his career in programs treating him like a diva which many transfers including good players have said about Sanders. Dart also doesnt take sacks to protect his passer rating which there is evidence Sanders did. I wouldnt draft Sanders and do think Dart is better, but if the Giants dont take Dart Sanders likely goes before him
So supposedly Sanders is falling to the second round - what are the chances of the Browns picking him if the stars align?
