Interestingly, if you read the Dowd Report wiki article. It doesn't say anything about any of this underage girl stuff. I would think that would be bigger news than betting on baseball games.
It's not "interesting" and I'm not sure what the disconnect is here.
Most of these things were kept out of the public report because Rose agreed to the lifetime ban to end the investigation and put a stop to a formal finding.
Many years later Dowd made some comments in the media about some of the findings which were not made public in his report. Specifically, he referenced Rose's relationship with a minor in the past and he referenced Michael Bertolini's testimony about Rose's frequent relations with young girls.
Rose decided to sue Dowd for defamation... Which was very stupid. In his defense Dowd introduced this other evidence, Bertolini testified, and the woman, known as Jane Doe, came forward with sworn testimony about details of her relationship with Rose which had not previously been made public.
Again, Rose had to back down.
So. The reason it's not either interesting, or surprising, that this information is not in the Dowd report on wiki is because it was not released in the Dowd report.
For the record, I found your "age is just a number" argument to be a bit off putting.

Why do I give more credit to a witness that has never been found to have lied than a witness who has been busted lying multiple times? Did you really ask that question?
It seems, despite actual evidence, that you really want to believe your hero wasn't a pedophile.

I'm 51, this guy wasn't even part of my childhood. He was already over the hill when I was a kid. I don't own his cards. I never watched him play a single game. He is just someone that I saw on TV associated with baseball as a kid. I'm just surprised at how vehemently you guys go after guys who have been accused of stuff like this on this board.
I did hear that at various times that he sold memorabilia to memorabilia dealers. Memorabilia that may or may not have been legit. Like, I heard that he sold the same ball or bat or mitt multiple times to different people claiming it was a specific piece of gear from a specific game, or something. Maybe that's where the hate comes from? I can understand the hate if he burned you guys.
Did you know he went to prison for tax evasion?
It's also been reported that to make some quick cash to pay off some of his gambling debts, Pete offered to finance a drug deal.

Let's see, Pete is married with a couple of kids and 32 years old having sex with a 14 year old.
Elvis MET Priscilla when she was 14 and he was 24 and NOT married at the time. Their relationship was, according to Priscilla in her book "Elvis and Me" NOT consummated until she was of legal age.

Ghengis Khan reportedly ate babies so I guess it’s “tout est permis”.
I think the reason no one is talking about other individuals, such as Ted Nugent, is because this was a discussion about whether a presidential pardon would help usher Rose into the HOF. The rational response here is that it seems like it might be a tough hill to climb regardless based on how MLB has approached Rule 21. There is also some other distasteful stuff but it’s unproven. The gambling is proven and would keep him out so long as MLB and the MLB HOF both decide to maintain the status quo. For MLB it’s Roses’ position on the ineligible list. For the MLB HOF it’s their eligibility requirements as they relate to players banned from baseball.
This makes it pretty clear cut. Done. No hope.
That people find the other allegations as well as the documented situation a bit disgusting doesn’t seem abnormal to me given established mores.
This is a discussion about Pete Rose and that’s the main reason people are not talking about other people or situations.

The good news is that for those who wish to celebrate Pete's career accomplishments, he is well-represented in the HOF Museum in Cooperstown. He doesn't have the honor of being enshrined in the plaque gallery as a member of the HOF, but he is very consistently (I say this as they do change exhibits from time to time) on display for his accomplishments in the Museum. Rose earned his place on the ineligible list. As a fan of the game it does sadden me that his character put him on a different trajectory than that of celebrated member of the MLB HOF.

Slandering people is not proper in any forum.
Making people uncomfortable by stating your opinion or presenting information which challenges their views is perfectly fine. If that’s not allowed here then this place has no value anyways and no one of worth will miss it.
Whether we like it or not the truth exists outside of our wants or desires. Embrace the simplicity of what is.

Per your last sentence. Always wondered what constitutes an "average person". And is someone more responsible/intelligent at 18 versus 17 and 364 days merely by the flipping of a calendar?
I’m not sure I understand the question but here goes.
In this case an average person would be one who hasn’t either committed or even had reason to be accused of a crime such as statutory rape. I don’t think Rose was just substantially unlucky.
If your question regarding responsibility and intelligence is regarding when a person changes from a child to an adult I’m not qualified to codify that… assuming it’s possible at all. I think that’s something parents are responsible for as each case has its own circumstances. However, in this case, regardless whether he was 34 and she was 16 or he was 32 and she was 14 I don’t think that’s a proper situation.
The reason I’m confident Rose won’t get elected is Rule 21. We’re talking about this other disgusting stuff - proper romance for some it seems as this just won’t die - as if that’s the gating item. If only the world could understand this modern day Lolita, Pete could be elected to his rightful place.
Alas.
It’s not just this one Jane Doe. That was just the person who testified in the defamation suit. Bertolini’s testimony was more repugnant. When I look at all of the evidence it’s a lot, leaving me to believe that it’s more likely than not that Rose was involved with young girls as he’s been accused of. I’ll also reiterate that this is unproven and I have not pretended otherwise. Not the relationship or that she was at most 16 when he was 34. Pete had admitted that much. The allegations that it occurred when she was 14 or that it was a pattern consisting of many young girls as Bertolini suggested. There’s a few other things but I’m not invoking anything new that hasn’t already been brought up in this thread. It’s more than a little and I don’t think his chance of election hinges on whether or not a child becomes an adult at 17 or 18. I think that’s entirely the betting on baseball thing and the other stuff is going to just be Eww.
I don’t really have an answer but I don’t think that matters here.
There are still some people who believe that no one has landed on the moon, that o j was innocent of murder and Pete Rose didn't bet on baseball and didn't have sex with a minor; and nothing is going to change their opinion. As my mom said, everyone is intitaled to their own stupid, wrong, idiotic opinion.

We're more civilized than that, though. Right? Let's put aside our perceived notions about Pete and agree that nobody here deserves to be slandered or abused. Get along y'all. Enjoy your cards and your fellow collectors. We're lucky to have a place for discussion. Let's not wreck it.
.
For the most part this has been a cordial discussion with a handful of ad hom. or otherwise undesirable insinuations. Perhaps the next contentious debate will have more decorum.
They can all rot if they did it. Real simple.
If he gets in how do you think the HOF will explain his transgressions and why it took so long to get in? If they in fact they do bother to address those 2 things.
I will be partying if elected to HOF! And in with the rest of the “saints”…Alleluia!
Champagne on ice…
I’ll bet $100k that he doesn’t get elected in the next 10 years.
Gambler…hey?
Per your last sentence. Always wondered what constitutes an "average person". And is someone more responsible/intelligent at 18 versus 17 and 364 days merely by the flipping of a calendar?
First You Whine over and over and over:
Then you launch into vile attacks against other Forum members:
What's next Monte Ol' boy? Will it be the "Playing the Victim Card"? Or are you going decree how your purchase of $45,000 Mantle cards makes you better than us peons! We know you are thinking that!!
It's the singer not the song - Peter Townshend (1972)
SHUT ‘ER DOWN. Oh “holy”…you have shown to be a hypocrite.
I don’t gamble. If you’re interested I can have a contract written and escrow setup.
No pigskin punk….my cards speak for itself, Monte’s Monets through the eyes of Topps and Bowman. And enjoy sharing my cards whether board members like the cards or not.
And I’m not attacking, just defending myself against attacks like yours, pigskin punk.
And you called yourself and others on this board peons, not me.
I don’t gamble either, not my enjoyment. It is enticing because I think he will be elected to the HOF. But I don’t want to take your money. I’m ready to pop the cork….though!
