I believe his favorite coin was the $50 Humbert slug, not the Pan Pac octagon, though he has an entire set of Pan Pac commemoratives.

Good catch, I had to back and reread the paragraph twice before I caught the nuance with both the Pan Pac $50 and the Humbert Slug $50 both being octagonal,

Ironically though I also have an octagonal Territorial Slug stashed away somewhere. Now I will have to go back and confirm if it is the same as the one Buddy prized.

If that turns out to be the case I guess I can begin imagining whether it may have passed through the hands of the actor who played Jed Clampett on the Beverly Hillbillies.

I had to go back and read it again as well to be sure I read it correctly.

Yes, hard to really pick as there is a bit of greatness to many and not one necessarily above others despite all.

You can add to that his impressive contributions from that research which he shared to us here on this forum.

I can add: Always willing to make the time, always follows-up and shares any and all knowledge he has.

My favorite living numismatist is Tony Terranova. I have learned a lot from him and always enjoy our conversations either in person or via text and/or phone.

One of the sharpest coin dealers I ever met. He knew what he wanted and never batted an eye when bidding at auction, even up to the mid six-figures.

Maybe that is the secret reason I never became a coin dealer. I HATE yellow mustard. James

I know one numismatist in person: the guy that I meet at the coinstar a few times a month who searches boxes for forty percent halves. I think that he has over-niched and does not spread info except for how many he found and a few record hauls from the past.
So, that leaves you members as my favorites.

He’s telling me I’m #1 here. Such a good friend.

Hannah still showing off her winnings from a S&B auction.

Hannah is a Doll, that's an easy win over Captain Grumpy Pants @BustDMs , every day :D:D:D

What one finger was he holding up anyway?

I would choose @habaraca the free dessert genius and his chauffeur @Pnies20.

Probably QDB for living numismatists. Franklin Roosevelt and Truman were coin collectors, they have Truman's at the money museum.

A lot of great people listed. I didn’t see Tett, from Missouri Cabinet fame. A very down to earth guy. After some careful thought, Rick Snow is my favorite living dealer.

    I could only think…..dumb and dumber…..😝

Q: When does a collector become a numismatist?

A: The year they spend more on their library than their coin collection.

A numismatist is judged more on the content of their library than the content of their cabinet.
