New Orleans Suggestions

If one were to have just one coin from the New Orleans mint in their box of 20 collection what would it be, in your personal opinion.
There is no wrong answer, just interested in your thoughts.

@seatedlib3991 you forgot the 3cs. I’ve always liked the “O” mm on this coin, the only year minted in New Orleans.

Throw a coin enough times, and suppose one day it lands on its edge.
There are a lot of great suggestions here but I like the1909-O Indian gold $5. Last year of the New Orleans. Mint and it's gold.
Another neat coin is the CSA restrike half dollar made by overstriking 500 genuine 1861-O half dollars using the original CSA reverse die.

But seriously, there are so many cool O-mint coins it would be hard to pick just one. Depends on your budget and tenacity to find the coolest coin. 38-O half? Well…………...
I have a thing for the 1839-o $2.5 classic head gold with the obverse mint mark…also a one year issue
It's all about what the people want...
1883-o $10 gold in MS65 or so
How about the first branch mint quarter?
1861O 50c. CSA obverse.
1839-o V-5 - long crack through star 4, rev. cracks I1, T3, A2
1841-o V-5 - rev. crack in U east side. Same reverse as the 1840-o V-7.
1853-O V-2 is correct - crack through right side of 3 into base (similar but different crack in V-3)
1857-O V-2 - vertical die line in base to rock left of shield.
All thanks to sharing your great photos.
First choice is the ANS Confederate Half Dollar.

Great posts & pics! Here’s one I recall from my Morgan collecting days:
The 1895-O Morgan $1 was well known for being poorly struck. This one was/is the finest known (MS67) & pedigreed to Wayne Miller, Jack Lee & today to Del Hansen.

@PocketChange . That Trime is excellent. I concentrate on Seated coins and did not even know it existed. How extraordinary that the U.S. would make a one year expansion with a silver coin in 1851. There must be some reason. Did they think the public would consider that size of coin not worth melting? I will have to check some of my reference books. Thanks for posting. James

Love the 51-O 3c. The only 3c with a mm. Had to include one in my expanded type set.
The O mint 20s are pretty nice. This is one of the more common ones.

I agree with Catbert. I have always been a big fan of 1853-O Arrows and Rays quarters and halves.
Finally acquired a Confederate Restrike last year. A well struck example with beautiful obverse color.
Here's one I wish I owned, now graded PCGS 68 and called a presentation strike. According to CoinFacts, it was originally accompanied by a note that stated: “First Gold Coined 1904, W.J. Brophy, Coiner U.S. Mint, $10,00 and $5.00” (No 1904-O $5's are known to exist, so the note is especially intriguing!) I've seen the $10 in hand on a number of occasions and have no doubt it's something special, if not a true proof. And I've never seen another 1904-O $10 that had anything but normal frosty surfaces.

If the right opportunity presented itself, it might be difficult to limit oneself to just one coin.

For a dime, it would come down to one of these two. The 93-O ex: B&R's 1975 Winthrop auction, later to STEWARTBLAY. The 60-O ex: Lovejoy, now in Hansen.

Lotsa great choices but I always liked the 1839-O quarter eagle.

Enjoy NOLA. Should be a blast.
Wow, such great replies and some kick butt coins/photos in this thread thank you. Lots of food for thought.
After reading the thread thoroughly, researching the suggestions and doing some plugging around on my own I find myself most often thinking about the the 46O 1$ and the 38O 10¢.
The 51O 3¢ and 49O Gold $1 are pretty intriguing as well...
Hi all, not generally a poster here as I don't usually have the spare moments, but love the OP. I am quite partial to NOLA coins as this is my area of interest...and if anyone has ever browsed the O mint entries in the registry, then my handle might look familiar. Best O mint coin has to be the proof 44-o $10, but the last trade was about 5-7mill (I think) and it's really not collectible. All the entries above are excellent choices. As far as the best for a box of twenty entry, I'd choose a seated coin in 67 (eg-40o or 91o seated quarter-both 1 yr types), perhaps a barber in 68 (there are a few), or one of the eagles in 66 or better (again, there are a few). The O mint was known for shoddy production, so a gem really is a real gem!
What ever date you go after I would try to get a strong O mint mark I do like the mint mart on the obv
